Watched Colleen Rooney in the jungle and now rewatching the wagatha thing on itv2, she just comes across so well, I actually love the background story and wonder even though they have all this money, I wonder if they ever crave those simple days of being 16 before it all kicked off. Just very normal people.
She seems so strong, classy, kind, just a morally good person really.

I wonder what all the other players in the team thought when they realised Vardy dobbed them In and then how they were with Jamie after that.

Wonder if she’d have been so keen to work through it if he was working the checkout at Tesco 🤨

She would get half of what he owns anyway so if she wanted to leave she could but she obviously loves him.

@Lookatthetwinklylights don’t disagree but why did she do it? That’s what I can’t quite understand. PR business launch? The £ ? Something else?

I think she did it because she wanted ppl to see the real her and not what the media and RV try to portray her as.

allthatfalafel · 10/12/2024 14:48

I met her many years ago and she was exactly the same then as she comes across now on TV. If that doesn't say authentic and genuine I don't know what does.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/12/2024 14:46

I'm enjoying her doc

Never seen

Will see part 2 tonight

She has such a cool calm way about her

I think she would make a great chat show host

The way she deducted it was RV

100% but my point is the whole "knew him before he was rich" is entirely made up by the press

He worked incredibly hard. Had a very strict family & was successful in his career she was right to want to be with somebody like that & for her to want to make that relationship work even when he fell short on the relationship front.

She's got lovely kids & a nice life now which is a good thing but the constant undermining of his career to build up their relationship when they've never really split & bring totally different things to their marriage is just fueled by the media & her fans

Whose underlining his career? I can’t be arsed to read back but no one has mentioned his career I don’t think until you did!

Are you a member of his family or something? Everyone knows he’s a talented player. That kind of goes without saying.

But you make it sound like that it’s all one way and like Colleen has played no part in his success, when I am sure they support one another.

Mumsnet is a funny place sometimes. I really should go and write Christmas cards 😄

I've always liked Coleen and wanted her to win I'm A Celeb. She seems such a genuinely decent, nice woman.

Besides the point I know but I also think she looks lovely without having completely changed her face. I think it's quite sweet that she hasn't got rid of that unsightly lump, but I suppose he's a good father to the boys.

I misread your last two sentences and was genuinely thinking ‘Does Colleen Rooney have some unsightly carbuncle on her face that I’ve never noticed, and which she’s chosen not to have surgically removed?’

Can’t see what there is to admire

sticks by her multi millionaire partner now husband who cheats again and again and with sex workers

no achievements to her name only connected to his

yeah great role model

Have to agree. And I loathe him. Rome model fur cheats and thugs imo.

Eh? Surely they are a team? He supports her and vice versa. That’s usually how marriage works anyway.

Someone else might have said this by now but is she that religious?! I know she's said she's Catholic repeatedly, but is she so Catholic that she wouldn't divorce him?

No. As I said up the thread, they didn’t have a Catholic wedding. They brought over a priest from Liverpool, but chose to get married in a deconsecrated church where you couldn’t have a Catholic marriage ceremony. (Catholic weddings can only take place in consecrated Catholic churches. They were warned in advance by the local bishop and offered the use of a nearby church, but declined.) Unless they’ve since had a discreet marriage ceremony and kept it out of the media, they’re not married at all in the eyes of the church. If they divorced, Colleen could remarry in a Catholic Church because she was never married in canon law in the first place. It would count as her first marriage.

So no, I don’t buy the narrative of ‘Catholics don’t divorce, therefore she’s tragically trapped by a footballing sleazebag who looks like a potato’. Half the people I know who are divorced are Catholics. She’s choosing to remain married to him, as is her prerogative. I see that as a completely neutral choice. It’s a bit puzzling how much she’s being attacked for it on here. Why would it make her any more or less admirable if she’d divorced him?

Also to add: Wayne Rooney might have some questionable moral values (drinking & cheating) & an over attachment to a girl he had a crush on in highschool but wasn't interested till later (Coleen) but the constant undermining of his career & exceptional talents - far more so then any other footballer in his early age groups - to Build up the image of a happy go lucky girl who "knew him before hand & should be admired for not being like everybody else" is so incredibly offensive to the family who literally raised & forced him into the absolute top leagues of football so that he could support himself through life

Seriously - he bought her a £30k engagement ring when she was 16 & they were living in their own privately owned home at 18

He was also named on the England Squad at 17 & sold to Manchester united shortly afterwards

She also knew his cousin at school & her father was close to his uncle while he advanced through the youth groups

As lovely as she is. There's absolutely no way she "knew him before he was rich/successful" he was an absolute child prodigy who was lauded from the minute he tried out for Everton to the day he was sold to Man united

You have no idea at sixteen how your life is going to turn out though. Huge numbers of young footballers fall by the way side through injury or other difficulties.

And what you said about them marrying young is half my point. They have done well to survive all of those trials and tribulations.

You carry on if you want to look at their relationship and see only money. But I choose and prefer to see other things. I am sure she is pretty wealthy in her own right now anyway. It’s obviously not money keeping them together now.

That’s unfair. She met him well before he was rich.

And she says they work well as a team and yes, love one another.

She has created a life for herself where she is happy and good for her I say.

She has choices but she is content where she is and it’s not up to you or I to make judgements about that decision. She could have left three times over if she wanted but she’s chosen not to and I respect that decision. There’s obviously more than just financial factors at stake.

Edited to add: And if you get together that young, and then get famous and rich, you face all of that extraordinary temptation and scrutiny while newly married. Many of us worked all of that out when we were young and single at university and beyond. And then got married much later. It’s just a different way of doing things, I think she has been canny negotiating all of that tbh.

Edited

At the end of the day given how long they have been together, if she wanted to leave him, she could do and would be a very wealthy, well known woman in her own right. She has chosen not to do so and that seems to have worked for her. She seems a decent sort and I wish her all the best.

Mem1 · 10/12/2024 13:38

Well she hasn't divorced him.... @LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa

But I agree I don't get particularly strong Catholic vibes from her I just think she's a girl raised to put up with alot & if it wasn't Wayne (due to money/family) it'd be somebody else (due to looks/personality)

These girls are just raised to get with men locally & have kids young

There are probably also custody reasons why she hasn't wanted a split from him since the oldest was born though

LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa · 10/12/2024 13:04

Spaceotter · 09/12/2024 23:33

She won't divorce Wayne at least partly because of her religion. That's one reason I dislike him more than most cheaters, he's taken advantage of that fact numerous times and shows he has no morals because he does it knowing she believes she can't leave him.

Absolutely everyone in the whole world ‘loves their children to bits’ I always find it really odd when anyone proudly or defensively says this as if it makes them a good person. It is bog standard, starting point normal.

But do you love your kids like Peter andre loves his kids

Haha sorry but he was the gold standard of loving your own kids a few years back

Gowlett · 10/12/2024 12:29

Didn’t watch Celebrity or Wagatha, but I’ve always liked Colleen since she first appeared in her school uniform.

As far as admiring her, I say hats off to raising four boys!

@colesr she said they’d kept chasing her for years & she finally relented. We can all see she’s a good egg re: VV, etc & cynical me wonders if just the cash for her. Why not donate all to charities she supports? Who knows, perhaps she quietly will.

She donates a lot to local charities and the NSPCC. Does a lot for Alder Hey Children's Hospital too

Naunet · 10/12/2024 12:23

okright · 10/12/2024 09:43

I think she’s a role model in terms of dedication to her family, she seems to be a nice person despite her wealth, she’s a good mum of boys, she’s relatable to women (who post every day here) who have to fight to regain their independence after devoting 20 years to their family. She’s a lovely advocate for normalising the experience of kids with additional needs (her sister).

I mean yeah he’s fucked up in extremely public ways, but to me that doesn’t necessarily take away from her, that she stayed. That’s not the part I’d celebrate but you know, life is complicated and not one dimensional.

All of that just seems basic to me, I personally don't celebrate people just because they're not an arsehole, but each to their own (genuinely, I know that could read as sarcasm!)

Thousands of people stay together, even if their other half works in Tescos / local warehouse/ council offices.

Wayne has obviously been a total shit on several occasions but Coleen has decided she wants to stick with their marriage. They won't be the first or last to be in that situation.
