Why do my in laws ALWAYS desecrate my toilet?!

sydneyprescott · 08/12/2024 09:48

In laws coming round this morning. So I’ve cleaned the downstairs bathroom.

Literally EVERY time they come, one or both of them take a massive stinky dump in our newly cleaned toilet. Can they not bloody go at home? For context they only live 10 mins away so it’s not like they have a big drive and then need to drop off a load

That is so weird! Who takes Imodium so that they don’t poo outside of their own home?! Like, why?!

Someone mentally unwell who needs psychological help?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 08/12/2024 13:10

Nolegusta · 08/12/2024 10:11

Exactly, they're actively choosing to do this, not being caught short.

Every day's a school day on Mumsnet. Who knew that there are people who even think this?

Cattery · 08/12/2024 10:09

They’re using yours because they don’t want to use theirs

Eh?? How do you draw that weird conclusion?

Buy a new loo brush and show them next time. Buy one that is especially accessible to them so easy to use and say you feel so bad they were so clearly struggling with your old one.

loo brushes are illegal on Mumsnet

CookieMonster28 · 08/12/2024 12:58

Dirty fuckers
I'd have to say something

Why aren't they using their own toilet to do wwhat it's designed for then? 🫣

Because, unlike what MN tries to claim, most people aren't robots and can't always control when they need to go? Hmm

phoenixrosehere · 08/12/2024 12:34

YANBU.

It’s disgusting not to clean up after yourself when using someone else’s loo if there are items to do so.

If you can’t clean up after yourself in someone else’s home when the supplies are available to do so, do your business at home.

Zimunya · 08/12/2024 12:34

OrwellianTimes · 08/12/2024 09:54

Well as someone who has bowel disease thanks for this. When I have to go I have to go.

They should leave it clean however. Maybe leave cleaning stuff obvious?

As @OrwellianTimes says, are there cleaning products readily available and easily seen? If so, no excuse. But people have to go when they have to go, so it seems unreasonable to expect them to leave the house.

JingleB · 08/12/2024 12:30

Not if it’s at a similar time or they’ve had whatever gets them needing the loo (coffee, see above)

Well then have the coffee, or do whatever thing stimulates the poo, at home, before coming? Of course they don't need to mark territory at home, do they? 🤢🤢🤢🤢

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 08/12/2024 12:15

Surely the way forward here is that the person related to the toilet visitor cleans up after them? In the same way that DP sorts out birthday presents etc for his own relatives.

Bizarre - the person who does toilet cleaning does the toilet cleaning

Nolegusta · 08/12/2024 12:33

Printedword · 08/12/2024 12:31

What sort of cleaning do you want them to do? It’s a loo they used it because they needed to go.

Cleaning up any mess/smell?
Who thinks it's ok to arrive and someone else's house then stink it out?

You don't find it odd that either one of them consistently has to poo in OPs house? It's definitely territory marking/habitual. That's what's mad. 🫣

These threads baffle me.

It's a toilet. It's literally designed for shitting in.

What on earth is the matter with people, starting bike threads like this. Are you in primary school?

No, surely the toilet user cleans up after themselves?

Are you mad?

If you need the loo, you need the loo. It doesn’t matter where you are, you’re not engaging in some dominance performance, you’re having a poo.

(In my case, about 45 minutes after having a coffee)

Pamosonic · 08/12/2024 12:22

Well yesterday morning I committed the sin of suddenly needing a pee less five minutes after I cleaned the loo and left bleach down. It's normally my son who peeps in straight after I've put bleach down and I hear the dreaded flush 🙄 I sat on loo feeling I was sitting on the naughty step but at the same time it was nice to be the first to use our freshly cleaned loo for once 😆

JingleB · 08/12/2024 12:20

Nolegusta · 08/12/2024 12:13

They live nearby. There is no need to constantly use someone else's loo unless territory marking.

I agree about leaving no mess, but I don't understand why you think they "decide" they have to go. If their digestive system tells them they need to go (maybe OP has given them something to eat or drink, which could trigger it), do you think they should deliberately ignore it and endure the discomfort until they get back home? Why?

Mipil · 08/12/2024 11:28

If they have bowel issues, they really could get caught short with such regularity, @Nolegusta. Eating and drinking can be a trigger, especially coffee and hot drinks. When everyone eats or drinks, the gastrocolic reflex stimulates peristalsis to (putting it bluntly) move stuff out to make more room for the incoming food. If they have bowel issues (eg IBS), they probably have an overactive gastrocolic reflex. Presumably, OP offers them a drink at least when they visit.

Did you mean to sound so patronising?
My point stands. It's highly likely they are territory marking.

Anotherworrier · 08/12/2024 12:09

MWNA · 08/12/2024 11:32

How could you not?! It's normal human behaviour. Someone regularly shits up your loo, you're going to notice. It's a human trait to recognise patterns.
It's a really odd and ignorant thing for you to have written.

😂😂😂 so funny

I never understand people who say they can only poo in their own toilet. So if you're at work for 8 hours, or having a full day out, and you need to go, you just hold it in?? I'm simply not physically capable of doing this (and it's bad for you). Or do people just never leave their homes for long?
I think it's a bit mean to be monitoring what they do in the toilet. This is what toilets are designed for. Maybe they didn't have the urge at home but when they need to go, they need to go!

You can set your watch by my bowels. As I get up. I never need to go on a day out 🤷‍♀️
I’m ok first thing in the am in someone else’s house/hotel/wherever
