XL bully shot

Local XL bully shot today. The owner is saying on social media that the dog was harmless but I've seen it go for a a small child before. Why are these dogs 'harmless" until they injure or kill

I don't know because I'm not there, but you seem quite sure they never get loose.

You're just guessing though, right, because they'd be uproar.

Pearl clutching over dog breeds is a very British thing, it's as if no other breeds ever attack people. I was attacked as a child by a large breed that wasn't famous for attacking people and not banned or being debates being banned. I had to have major surgery as a tiny kid.

It wasn't in any newspaper.

Thelnebriati · 07/12/2024 21:03

It look like the dog had got loose, was on the street on its own, and became aggressive;

There is a foster carer near me who is responsible for two children. He has got a xl bully. He isn't supposed to have it but hides it when authorities are visiting. Wwyd?

Report to children's social services so they can put the children somewhere safe where they aren't been cared for by a liar that is willing to put them in danger

McNicey · 07/12/2024 21:02

Stop responding to @ScorpioRising83

They are part of the venn diagram where applying logic is pointless.

These XL beasts are also pointless. They should all be rounded up and pts.

Poor things. But low lifes, idiots and lax laws have allowed this to happen.

I don't know what else needs to happen before the government properly acts. The mauling of a PM's kid probably. In the meantime, we are all walking around, and at risk... Putting our kids at risk because these fucking bastard things are everywhere.

DrZaraCarmichael · 07/12/2024 21:01

I disagree, it looks like a sweet pupster,

FFS how can anyone look at those things and think awww, sweet "pupster". Fuck me.

Umm, report them 😳

DarkAndTwisties · 07/12/2024 20:58

Are you also in Texas?

Are you suggesting I'm wrong in saying that pet tigers aren't roaming freely in parks?

Armed police. It bit someone

Ahh what a shame. Booo hoo. One less mutant on the streets.

I'm talking about training, or lack of it.

You're probably right about inbreeding, that's a general problem with dogs.

A bully attack doesn't always mean death. The roadmen I mentioned earlier, one of their dogs attacked a neighbour. She was injured and it took a couple of people to get it under control but it didn't kill her.

I'm not saying some bullies are not dangerous, I'm saying they are not all dangerous by DNA.

I don't really like the word, but if it fits... there's a lot of hysteria about this topic.

Well as long as it doesn’t inevitably kill people. All good.

The breed is inherently problematic. As are the people who defend them, QED

Report to SS.

It really is the breed though.

My DS friends parents have just got one. He won’t be going to their house anymore. They have a baby as well, just ridiculous. Comments on their fb posts like “welcome to the bully club”. 🤢

Why are they boasting on SM that the have an illegal dog? Thats just asking to be reported & have the pip removed. Idiots.

It’s been shot.
Cant get unshot.

Does sound as if a couple of posters here should start up an XL bully rescue centre though. I’m sure it will go swimmingly.

Tbf they probably aren't off the lead in the local park while the brainless owner goes on about what a sweet little ball of fluff it is.

Are you also in Texas?

I used to believe the same as you, and then I researched it.

XL bullies are different to other dogs in that they've been massively inbred from one specific dog and have developed a "rage gene." Where they are absolutely unstoppable and uncontrollable if the switch in their head flips, which it can do at any random time, not just because it's provoked or mistreated.

So it is now in fact part of their DNA, unlike other big dogs that may or may not be aggressive depending on their owners and training.

This is why the stats are so, so high for XL bully attacks and deaths compared to other breeds, and why there have been so many more dog attacks in recent years. Not media reports. Actual statistics.

ScorpioRising83 · 07/12/2024 20:11

No pets that could kill an adult? So no mastiffs then? No German shepherds? Rottweilers?

Apparently they have more pet tigers in Texas than in all the zoos in all the world. I learned that recently but I've never seen any pearl clutching about it.

Tbf they probably aren't off the lead in the local park while the brainless owner goes on about what a sweet little ball of fluff it is.

NarnianQueen · 07/12/2024 20:47

If it was the owners not the breed, there would be attacks all the time from all dogs across the board, because you'd statistically get bad owners who had Dalmatians and spaniels and Jack Russells.

But it's always XL bullies. Why's that then?

There are, we just don't read about it in the news because it doesn't sell papers.

Media bias feeding a hysteria. A vicious circle (Scuse the pun)

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 07/12/2024 20:52

I'm glad there wasn't yet another death. One less giant psycho dog around. And no of course you can't train their temperament, not to mention the innate instability of character, out of them.
Collies herd, retrievers retrieve, greyhounds sprint after small fluffy creaters, XLs maul until their victim is very dead.

ScorpioRising83 · 07/12/2024 20:50

MILLYmo0se · 07/12/2024 20:45

I don't understand what you mean. A terrier can give a painful bite but are you doing to die? If they are in attack mode they can be beaten off and detached from you, an XL can't be deterred or gotten off you til it's done with you. They are so inbred they are demented, what are the stats, something like 50% of the XLs in the UK are descended from Kimba himself bred from a brother and sister I think. Even if they are owned by responsible owners (I don't think many would have an XL though) that's exercises them throughly every single day, keeps them away from kids etc it just takes a moment for them to snap because of their mental fragility, and that fragility combined with the strength and size of them is the danger. A bad owner worsens the situation but I don't think any of them can ever be trusted even a tenth of the level to which you d trust a terrier

There's always one breed of dog that the world claims to be "dangerous" it just seems to change every few years to a different one.

XL bullies and jack russels (other small breeds) can all attack and be unpredictable, the problem with XL bullies is the size of them and what damage they can do when they bite.

I own a Staffordshire bull terrier and a miniture sausage dog and my sausage dog is much more likely to bite. My Staffordshire has never even growled at a human before.

No dog deserves to be shot, people should be tested first to check if they are able to provide and look after a dog properly and not use it for "intimidation"

Has a sausage dog ever killed anyone? JFC 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

Dibbydoos · 07/12/2024 20:12

How can you possibly think it's a dogs breed? It's a human problem @ACynicalDad The owners can't train them or train them inappropriately because they're AHs. Many XL bullies are great family dogs because their owners have trained them!

Really fed up it's an issue about a dog when it's their fg owners that should be jailed and banned from owning any pets.

@louisbalfournice I hadn't picked up the news, it's sad but I doubt the dog could be retrained to stop attacking, which it's most likely done because it was triggered by fear or anxiety. The owner who's claiming it was harmless is an AH and should be prosecuted.

It is the breed. No one denies that German Shepherd dogs make good police dogs, that some dogs are best for hunting, some for herding.

There are breed specific traits. These dogs are bred for aggression. They are unpredictable. Everyone of these attacks where children die, you have someone saying 'it came out nowhere, he's never bitten before'. Many dogs are anxious and manage not to mail others.

I feel for XL bullies, who are the result of human cruelty, but the breed needs to be allowed to die out.

Yeh Wikipedia a totally reliable source, as is the daily mail.

Any large breed can kill.

Certain breeds become popular with people who misuse them. Those breeds change over time. There have always been XL bullies but it's only in recent years they've become popular with the kinds of people who shouldn't keep any dog.

The people are the bigger problem.

Have XLs been in the UK that long, I'd thought its only been the last decade or so, the breed only began in the 90s
