Is this feminism?

I've just read about a 23 year old who comes from a wealthy background and plans to sleep with 1,000 men in 24 hrs.

In the article*, she calls herself a feminist and says she feels empowered.

I don't understand why this woman wants to do this. I can obviously understand the financial aspect but she talks about the event taking place in a warehouse with men coming in one door and leaving out the other.

I'm obviously behind the times because when I was that age, women didn't aspire to live stream themselves having sex with countless men.

I'm wondering what the hell has happened for women to choose to do this and think it's empowering. These women have the support of their families which I also don't understand.

Apparently they don't have to ejaculate to break the record, just penetrate. So under two minutes each is actually pretty long! I'm sure many guys will try to ejaculate though.

Many plug feminism as 'freedom' to do what you want without the oppression of the patriarchy, often convinced that sex without conditions is that freedom. I don't think men are going to complain if this is the case.

Zestylemo · 07/12/2024 10:43

@Newbynewbynew You may not like the idea that grown women are not responsible for their own choices but we are heavily swayed by society. How do you square that many women were actually against getting the vote during that period.

This is no different really that women say they like wearing high heeled shoes?

Some of the reasons they give are all based around subconscious sexism.

"I think I look more powerful in heels" but men don't wear heels and yet hold all the power

"I just enjoy wearing them" - The are totally impractical, cause long term damage and for most women they hurt. Which is why you see o many women bare foot with heels in hand at the end of a big night out.

"I like wearing them because they make my legs look better" - only because women are held to a stupid skinny leg standard which is the sexism at play. Why can't women's natural leg shape, including muscular calves, be attractive.

It is so ingrained we must suffer for the male gaze.

How do you know this? Because the evidence lately, thinking of the Pelicot case, seems to point in the other direction.

There is no 'evidence' for any of this. Just because a few high profile cases involving delinquents have been brought to light we can't say that most men would shag anyone.
In fact looking at the emerging male sub cultures online there is a lot of talk about 'body counts' and how nobody wants a woman with a 'high body count.'
Putting that aside, the regular men in my life find the idea of being number 5 in a line up to have sex completely revolting. This topic has come up in my house due to it being splashed across the news.

Newbynewbynew · 07/12/2024 10:33

@Zestylemo You see, I don't like the idea that grown women are not responsible for their own choices and actions. This whole 'choices are not made in a vacuum' spiel suggests that we are so feeble minded and heavily swayed by society that any seemingly anti feminist choices we make can't possibly be our own thought. Some people are just attention seeking narcs, I think it is no deeper than that in some cases.

Salmonisraw · 07/12/2024 10:31

Devilsmommy · 07/12/2024 09:59

Because men already hold all the power unfortunately 😒

Exactly! So why are some women so happy to do things like this and say it's empowering. I saw someone else (maybe Lilly Allen) saying the same thing about her only fans, 'it's empowering'. Think about why you need to be empowered rather than just having power!

@GlovesScarfAndBoots I think the majority of men would find the idea of going where many men had gone before quite disgusting actually.

Newbynewbynew · 07/12/2024 10:04

I think it is disgusting but it is her choice. It's interesting that she is being painted as a victim of the patriarchy when you could quite as easily say she is using young men for her own gain, sure they're getting a shag out of it, but she is the attention seeking woman looking to get rich quick. Both are consensually using one another.

If a story like this came out 20 years ago I'd be delving into the reasoning behind such choices, like other pp have. Unfortunately, with todays social media society I don't think there necessarily needs to be some underlying trauma, we simply have an entire generation of narcissists who will do anything to get noticed.

It doesn't have to be underlying trauma to be totally brainwashed by the patriarchy. The idea that it's enticing or that people will pay to watch a woman's body being abused in this way or that the woman would choose to have her body abused in this way shows how intrenched sexism is within society.

GlovesScarfAndBoots · 07/12/2024 10:23

That a woman can propose this kind of creepy fucked up stunt and find 1000 shameless willing men certainly makes a strong feminist statement about men and misogyny, but I'm not sure I believe this woman is a feminist or doing it for feminist reasoning.

Nearly all of the debate will focus on her and very little on that very large number of willing men. What would the saturation point be? If it was advertised as 16 hours a day for weeks on end, how many men would sign up? (When) would we run out of willing men? This stunt doesn't seem to guarantee anonymity, but how many more men would sign up if it was? Food for thought.

"Your body, your choice " is a fucking con. Women and girls have been fed this line for decades now in the pretence that's it's empowering them. It's a systemic con job that these people have utterly fallen for and men are fucking delighted.

It's the same degradation of our bodies though, the same usage, the same misogyny, the same disrespect of women as old as time, only this time, they've been conned into thinking it's fucking empowering.

These men are just fucking an orifice. Not one will take this girl home to meet their families, or would want her as a life partner.

1,000 men? Fills me with disgust and bile and fear. Someone's father, son, brother. 😞

THANK YOU!!! I wholeheartedly agree!

I’ve been saying this for years - these young women have been brainwashed into thinking this is for THEIR good, when the chief recipients to benefit are and have always been men. It’s so blatant it makes women look even more idiotic that we’ve been taken on by it and are encouraging our friends and daughters to service men with our bodies for ££££. Being told it’s not only self-respectful but EMPOWERING - and the more skin you reveal and sexual positions you can contort yourself into is really throwing shade at these men and scoring another point for the sisterhood - are we really that dumb?!!!!

You can hear the older men laughing with their younger contemporaries and slapping each other on the back. It’s no longer top shelf - it’s everywhere - “you’re welcome!”

Meanwhile the women are the ones in therapy, getting body modifications and surgery, dealing with eating disorders and body dysmorphia and rejection when their bodies no longer satisfy the male gaze.

TickingAlongNicely · 07/12/2024 10:02

I don't think what she is doing is feminist.

But I think the stereotypical double standard of
Woman who has sex with a lot of people = "slut" whereas man = "hero" does still persist. Enjoying sex shouldn't be seen as a moral failing.
(Obviously safe sex)

Feminism is about equality, dignity and respect for women.

What's so dignified about a thousand men using your body as a fleshlight? Do you believe these men see her as an equal and respect her?

Feminism is not about the sexual objectification of women, it's the opposite. It's not about catering to men and their desires, it's the opposite.

This, how can it be feminist and empowering for women to sell sex to men, but totally the opposite for men to pay for it?

How crap in bed are the guys? The time alone for 1000 guys in 24 hours is 1m.44 secs each. Allow a bit time for...well...getting it in, even as a young man not sure I could get there quite as quick as that. 😂

My thoughts exactly

You're thinking of another woman who does this, I think her name is Bonnie Blue. She's the one who targets Freshers. This woman just wants the men to be over 18.

What's the difference between being a fresher and a man over 18?

Screamingabdabz · 07/12/2024 09:18

No. What she is doing does not bring a single thing to promote female equality and equity. Not a single woman will benefit from this. Even her. It will wreck her, long term.

She says she ‘chooses’ to do this but it’s clear the rules of the game are very much set by the patriarchy.

It's very popular among younger generations to think feminism is just about supporting women to do whatever they want. That sex work is work and empowering. I've seen these types of "feminists" talking about this particular woman online and the cognitive dissonance is quite amazing to watch.

Anyone with a deeper reading of feminism knows that no this is obviously not feminist. Feminism is about liberating women, all women, from oppression. In a world where Dominique Pelicots exist, this kind of behaviour is dangerous and degrading not only to this particular woman but to all women.

Well said.

I also agree that it's a form of self harm.

jeaux90 · 07/12/2024 09:09

Liberal feminism is the biggest lie ever sold to women.

The only people it benefits are men.

But I'm an old school 2nd wave feminist.

Feminism is not about the sexual objectification of women, it's the opposite. It's not about catering to men and their desires, it's the opposite.

You can be a feminist in theory and do anything, but obviously prostitution is not a feminist act. Less extreme behaviours like wearing make-up, dyeing one's hair, removing body hair are all un-feminist, but I wouldn't say you need to be perfect to be a feminist. Maybe that makes it meaningless...

When labelling "un-feminist acts", my opinion is based on whether the behaviour is performed to provide immediate comfort for one person but will negatively impact future generations of women. For example, removing my body hair or wearing make-up might make me feel better about myself right now, but it prolongs the pressure on younger women to conform to these same standards. I choose to bear some of the burden of change so that my niece, for instance, doesn't have to sacrifice as much!

Helleofabore · 07/12/2024 08:59

It is self harm OP. And it is not ‘empowering’ at all. What ‘power’ does she gain from this?
