To ask about 56 year old men?

Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

Yeah they're all different. I had a 60 year old who left me walking like John Wayne, shame he was a twat and I had to dump him. But I waited a while Wink.

Realistically, most 56 year olds need viagra and are obsessed with their shed.

My DH is a nearly 56yo man. All his friends are 55-60. Every single one of them is different. If you have a crush, you must have an idea of ‘who’ he is and what he might like? IME though, men that age tend to have everything they like and the means to buy things as needed/wanted. Makes xmas/birthday shopping bloody annoying and frustrating actually…

This is so true. So give him an experience rather than a 'thing'

A day out
A bike ride together with lunch in a pub
A sporting match
A trip to a gallery
A pair of theatre tickets
A weekend at the beach
dinner at a fancy restaurant...

You're the OP who's set on spending £30 a month on your food budget aren't you @Jumell - is this what the saving is for?!

They're probably planning on seducing him with a Greggs pasty and a bacon bap.

MyNameIsErinQuin · 05/12/2024 10:21

Running marathons, bootcamps, dog walking, watching sports, good food, good wine, reading.

I have one slightly older (61).
As I'm on my way out he may be up for grabs soon but, there are downsides to these 'ever youthful groovers'
They have strange interests /habits:

A obsession with yellow labels in supermarkets
Shouting at the television when the hit list is on
Muttering about adult DC who are unable to put a wash on
Ringing grammatical errors in newspapers
Refusing to walk fast on holiday
Stroking feet as a form of foreplay
Buying their DW books by other grumpy middle aged women (think Jenny Eclair)
Insisting on wearing rocket pocket trousers
Eating crap if their wife hasn't cooked their dinner.

However until recently he owned a vintage golf, knows his Bach to his Blur and still plays basketball.

They are all different.

Haha I love Hit List and yellow labels !

grammatical errors tho 🤣

They a lap tray to eat their tea while they are watching Antiques Roadshow Show. A phone with big buttons. A "big slipper". Afternoon tea at a National Trust property. A tartan shopping trolly. One of those gadgets to open jars. And they like Songs from the Shows and Vera Lynn.

you’ve forgotten doilies.

We need doilies!

Fair enough

But I love these bands 🙌

Well yes, but I thought you wanted to establish what your average 56 YO might like, not wang on about your own music tastes.

I can’t tell if the radox comment is a joke, but on the off chance it isn’t, please don’t get anyone radox bubble bath as a gift..

I love this music era though. Forgot the excellent ‘Love Affair’

But you want to know what music 56 year old men like. What you like isn’t really relevant.

Mnetcurious · 05/12/2024 10:01

You may as well ask how long is a piece of string! Some men like football, others don’t. Some men like cooking, others don’t. You get the idea. 56 year old men are not a homogeneous group.

TwistedWonder · 05/12/2024 09:38

Everyone of a certain age on this thread - do you remember those dreadful Top Of The Pops compilation albums they used to sell in Woolies. It was the top 20 hits each month sung by session singers and there was always a scantily clad young woman on the cover.

Yes! Oh god they were so awful!
They used to be playing in all the shops in town in the 70s, and used to make me cringe when I heard one of my favourites mangled by someone who could barely sing.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 05/12/2024 09:57

Mr Serenity is 53 and he likes:

Football
Books ( history, politics, classics, and some fiction)
Black and white films
60's/70's music
Travel
Walking

but also....
Nights out dancing to cheesy music
Days out mooching around pubs
Karaoke
Any kind of sitcom but especially American ones like Frasier
Cheesy romcoms ( leap year, the holiday etc)

He's one on his own!!

Jumell · 05/12/2024 09:56

BunnyLake · 05/12/2024 09:52

That’s before his time. He’d have been barely a baby when they were hitting the charts.

I could get him a compilation take of hits by :

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich
Tremeloes
Manfred Man
Amen Corner
The Move
Herman’s Hernits
Small Faces

What fabulous music there was back then !
