Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

The answer is NO.
😂

Alondra · 05/12/2024 11:32

It's not about men and age, it's about friendship, similar values and financial resources at this age.

Is he financially independent?

Has he lived alone for a few years and able to take care of himself without a woman to make it easier for him?

Are his kids grown up, independent but having a good close relationship with him?

Is he emotionally available? Can you talk and make decisions about your everyday life without him blowing out in anger or having to walk on eggshells from fear?

Are you compatible? Do you want similar things in present life and in the future?

His age is immaterial, OP. You've said little about yourself except you fancy him and "fancy" is not a term to look for in a good partner, specially in mature age when they come with baggage.

Fair enough! I’m closer to your parents on musical tastes !

Yes but this isn't about you, is it @Jumell ? You asked what a 56 year old might like as you, age 34 or thereabouts, have a crush.

It's the same as looking at what was in the charts when you were born and basing your tastes on back then. In fact, do this for your crush (who would have been early twenties then) and you won't be far wrong!

DuckyLuck · 05/12/2024 11:22

I've got one and he's nothing like some on here - they really aren't all the same!

Mine likes decent clothes, indie music, new tech, cars, dogs and cake

JohnofWessex · 05/12/2024 11:22

I'm 62

Dress like a farmer
Interested in Marine Steam Plant
Trains
Ships
Model Railways
Can cook sort of
Capable of looking after children
Understands Modern Monetary Theory
Can use The London Underground
Reads Maps

etc etc

But just because you love them, why would you expect him to? Most of those bands date from before he was born.

My DP is 56, coincidentally. If you presented him with a CD of those bands he'd think you were mad.

My DP likes running, football, modern art, books, arthouse cinema, travel, posh restaurants, going to gigs, theatre etc. He mostly wears jeans, t-shirts and Converse or Timberland boots. His music tastes include some punk and New Wave but mostly indie and electronic music. Currently he's working downstairs and I can hear him listening to a Spotify playlist that includes Fontaines DC, Wet Leg, Janelle Monae, Bob Vilan and some random 80s hip-hop.

Your DP has some good varied interests 🙌

Ggmores · 05/12/2024 11:14

are you trying to snag a younger man? This is a very odd post!

Patterncarmen · 05/12/2024 11:12

Deathraystare · 05/12/2024 09:38

@Patterncarmen
I like the sound of your husband! Obvs you do too! Fellow punk music lover.

Thank you. He is one cool guy. I’m happy I met him.

Ughouchargh · 05/12/2024 11:10

Are you in your 80s OP?
Is that why you need help to understand men in their 50s?

Jumell · 05/12/2024 11:09

Ughouchargh · 05/12/2024 11:04

I thought you said 56?

The music you list is what my parents (early 80s) grew up on.

At 56 hes more likely to like grunge, hip hop... or Oasis.

MiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 05/12/2024 11:08

Not all men of that age are identical, but a fair few of them will be profoundly grateful to any woman willing to shag them.

Ughouchargh · 05/12/2024 11:04

Jumell · 05/12/2024 08:46

I could get him a compilation take of hits by :

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich
Tremeloes
Manfred Man
Amen Corner
The Move
Herman’s Hernits
Small Faces

What fabulous music there was back then !

Seekingstyle · 05/12/2024 10:24

They're probably planning on seducing him with a Greggs pasty and a bacon bap.

Surely a pizza slice would be both nutritionally better and cheaper?!

OP, you seem to have little experience of the world. Have you been sent from a galaxy far, far away to learn our ways ahead of the invasion?

SleeplessInWherever · 05/12/2024 10:54

liverandonions · 05/12/2024 10:30

Yeah they're all different. I had a 60 year old who left me walking like John Wayne, shame he was a twat and I had to dump him. But I waited a while Wink.

Realistically, most 56 year olds need viagra and are obsessed with their shed.

That last sentence 😂😂👏🏻

@EnterFunnyNameHere ...I don't suppose you listen to All Killa do you?

That’s what I was going to ask!!!

Ask him, he's probably an individual with his own ideas. If he isn't then run away and find a new crush

username299 · 05/12/2024 08:03

What kind of things do they like in general?
Watching sports, bird watching, DIY, fast cars and gardening.

Have they got good stamina ?
They can walk up a flight of stairs without pausing.

birthdays /Xmas
4 cans of premium lager and some pork scratchings.

music they like
Oasis, The Jam, Chemical Brothers, The Orb and Blondie.

This made me laugh - my hubby (54) made me go and see The Orb this weekend. They looked like a couple of blokes working in B&Q Grin.

And there seems to be a disconnect with then a 56 year old grew up! As a 54 year old the earliest music I remember is ABBA, Bonnie Tyler, Blondie not the bloody Tremelos! He would have been born (almost certainly as it's December) in 1968 and would have been a teen in the 80s so listened to The Jam/The Cure/The Smiths/New Romantics and then Brit Pop in his 20s...

As he’s born in 1968 maybe we’ll find out own ‘Everlasting Love?’

But I certainly won’t ‘Wear His Ring’ anytime soon

(one for the teenagers)

My DH is 56. He loves mountains, military history, his family, computer games, healthy eating, cars and the gym. He is impossible to buy presents for.

61here · 05/12/2024 10:40

My hubby is 63, loves lots of different music but not anything from the 60's!! Played golf till his sciatica played up, loves football, classic cars, photography and is teetotal. My brother is 62, hates football or any sport, lives technology, good whiskey, antiques and cats! All men are different so you need to find out more about HIM!

New4Old · 05/12/2024 10:37

Younger men in their 50s usually like something new, a new experience, something that was out of reach before cost or time perhaps.
One friend enjoyed a driving experience at a race track, a few laps in a Ferrari with instructor by his side. (must have full manual licence) others are off-road driving.
A day on a Sailing Barge might be good.

Theak · 05/12/2024 10:32

If you’ve got a crush buy him tickets to something as a way to spend more time together. (Football? Vintage car show? Whatever interests you share).

I once bought a man entry to the same half marathon I was doing. We were good friends and he had mentioned he wanted to do one. We are now married.

MildredSauce · 05/12/2024 10:31

Dobbythechristmaself · 05/12/2024 08:08

Hmm, I’m all for an older man crush. But you sound very young OP. If you’re under 30, be very fucking careful what you are doing. Can I assume he’s single and available? Because I couldn’t be arsed feeling excited for your crush if you are some young twat chasing a married man. Hopefully not.

Looking back on posts, the op is is 34
