I'm a celebrity

I've watched a bit of it over the years.

I was watching a couple of this year's episodes, and I just thought that the trials have gotten so much worse.

Yesterday they had Oti mabuse, one of the contestants, stand in a sarcophagus. They poured sand into it, up to her neck, so her whole body was covered in sand, and she couldn't move at all.

She had a tiny head space for air. Then they filled that head space with giant cockraches, ants and large worms.

I was watching it and thinking,

"When did watching people being completely tortured on TV become acceptable."

Is it not going too far?

Yeah the point is not about the fees though.

It's that torture for entertainment should not be allowed.

What next, choose which contestant to kill, like the Hunger games.

I very much doubt I’m a Celebrity would adopt The Hunger Games mentality. 😂. It’s a game show, do you really think they’re being “tortured” in there? These celebs are being paid £££££ for spending a few weeks in a made up jungle.

Edited for a typo because I was laughing so much at the “tortured” comment.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/12/2024 22:46

Don't watch it then

But how much free will do they have to shout "I'm a celebrity yet me out of here".

If they shout "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" it means that the other contestants won't get any food.

So they get guilt tripped into doing the trial

Dean said those words last week.

Oh FFS, no-one is forced to go on it.

Did you know Coleen Rooney is getting £1.5 million @Mearabade ???

I would do I'm a Celebrity for that! (Most people would!)

Again, it's not about the fees.

It's that in a civilised society, we should not have torture for entertainment.

You might want to watch this years…

Didn’t stop people Dean this year

also they do choose to sign up 🤑 I expect the money helps them cope

What a shame, hundreds of people go hungry in the UK every day, I’m sure they’ll survive especially with the huge fees they get with being on the show.

YABU just because you wrote 'gotten'. HTH

This is confusing. Did you think that gotten isn't a word?

It is a word.

They get basic rations of rice and beans. They have medics so I’m sure if their health was being threatened something would be done.

Flyhigher · 04/12/2024 22:24

I agree with you.
It's torture. It's abusive. And watching it condones it. It's extreme.

🙄

Ursulla · 04/12/2024 22:42

It's always been like this though. I remember over 20 years ago me and then-dh shrieking horrified at the telly as Wayne Sleep got bit by hundreds of rats.

It's just because it's not on all year round that you notice it. It's like when you buy a newspaper after not reading one for ages. Everything seems extreme because you're not used to it.

Mearabade · 04/12/2024 22:42

7ft1garysson · 04/12/2024 22:41

They don’t have to do it, or sign up to the show. After 20 years I think they all know what it’s all about.

Just turn it off if you don’t like seeing it.

"Just turn it off".

So are you saying that we should never write about things we don't like on mumsnet then?

People write about things that they dont like, on here all the time

They can get out at any time, all they need to do is say the words, it’s hardly torture with the amounts they’re paid to go on the show.

But they're told if they say the words, then the other contestants won't get any food.

I stopped watching years ago when Uri Geller was about to eat a giant bug that had been speared, it was alive. I honestly thought that entertainment couldn't get lower.

Yeah when they were eating the live bugs it was absolutely disgusting.
