To think this attack on London Jewish schoolchildren should have been headline news

I have been waiting for this story to go mainstream, and I’m shocked that it hasn’t.

So far, it seems only the Daily Mail has reported on it - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14142235/amp/Jewish-children-terrified-thugs-London-bus-rocks-Israel.html.

When are we going to start taking the threats against Jews in the UK seriously and actually do something about it?

Thugs throw rocks at bus with Jewish children and yell 'f*** Israel'

Students at JFS in Kenton, north London, were travelling on buses operated by Uno, when the vehicles were set upon by a group of teenage thugs at a bus stop in Edgware, on Wednesday.

I would also point out again that it's equally wrong for people to hold hatred and prejudice against Israeli people (meaning the regular civilians) as a whole. Many Israeli civilians themselves are decent people and are not causing harm to anyone. I realise that a fair number of settlers are, as well as the Israeli leadership and military. However, I think people should try to bear in mind that hatred of innocent Israeli civilians is just as awful as hatred of non-Israeli Jews.

I'm aware, it's awful that any race, creed, religion, or community should be 'tarred with the same brush'. It's abhorrent and despite being pro-palestine, I'm not anti-israeli.

We should start by expelling from the UK for life everyone who engaged in this crime against the Jewish children as an example that we do not tolerate this.

Expel them to where?

What you are you insinuating is not subtle.

Do you really think the children abusing the other children really care and understand about the complex history and political situation in the Middle East? I’d laugh if it wasn’t serious!

Antisemitism existed before Israel and would continue even if Israel ceased to exist. People are who can stop antisemitism and all kinds of racism.

@DazedAndConfused321 But I don’t understand why you think antisemitism would stop if "Palestine was free", since you must know that it existed here long before Palestine was an issue.

I too am Jewish, but judging by your emoji and your comments about Palestine and "genocidal Israelis" it seems that we hold very different opinions.

Edited

I said 'maybe' not, "Anti-semitism will be eradicated in the blink of an eye as soon as Palestine is free and their land is returned to them."

We can have different opinions, that's the point of forums and threads like this- to discuss and debate. Not to call Jews anti-semitic racists because they dared to share a fleeting thought about a situation they're negatively impacted by.

Wait, are you suggesting that British children be ‘expelled’from the country for alleged name calling???

Out of interest WHERE would you expel them to?

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 16:23

You're making up a lot and reading between lines that aren't there. I'm Jewish, I don't need to condemn antisemitism or justify my beliefs thank you. I don't have to admit anything, I know there is antisemitism because idiots believe all Jews are genocidal israelis, I'm very aware because that's what I've witnessed and experienced first hand. I'm part of the community being attacked, that is the point of this thread. If you want to insult me or accuse me of being antisemitic you've got the wrong person, and you're leaning into your own bias.

I would also point out again that it's equally wrong for people to hold hatred and prejudice against Israeli people (meaning the regular civilians) as a whole. You used an emoji which is used by people who want Israel removed from the face of the earth. (BTW people I know in RL who say this also make comments like ' those people (the civilians tortured/ raped and murdered on October 7th) deserved everything they got on October 7th)

You link anti-Semitism in the UK entirely to the Palestine and Israeli conflict, saying if it weren't for that there would be no anti-Semitism. That may not be what you meant in your head, but its what you communicated.

I am glad to hear you may not have meant what you said, but people can only form their view on what you actually said. Plenty of other posters have understood your post the way I did. There really was not the ambiguity in it that you seem to think there was.

You got all of that from 2 lines of text on mumsnet. Maybe those who misunderstood what I said should have taken a step back and realised it's two lines of text on mumsnet. Not an essay describing my entire belief system.

Look at you, changing the world one emoji at a time

Embarrassing

And of course, we all know there was no anti semetism prior to 1948 🙄

Edited

@Comedycook Ah, my apologies. You were the one person not calling me anti-semitic- there's been a lot, it's hard to keep up. Your comment was instead so lovely! I'm so glad to be a Jewish activist, spending my time and money trying to make my community safer, only to be told I don't know anything about the history of my people because I'm embarassing and wrote 2 lines you didn't like. I'm so embarassed I'll just stop trying to change the world, because someone on mumsnet doesn't like it. Because the 2 lines I wrote in about 15 seconds on mumsnet are such an important contribution to the world, and I messed it up by not justifying my heritage enough. I'm blushing as we speak, and going to hide from society forever so I don't embarass myself more.

Is that how you change the world for the better? Calling someone embarassing and insulting their understanding of their own race because you can't understand that 2 lines don't sum up an entire person's belief system?

SorcererGaheris · 04/12/2024 16:35

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 16:33

I didn't say it was an excuse. I literally wrote two lines, and I didn't write anything to indicate I think it's an excuse to abuse Jews.

I realise you didn't say it was an excuse, however I think your statement that Palestine being free might stop anti-Semitism (which it almost certainly wouldn't stop entirely) could reasonably be interpreted as suggesting that the oppression of Palestinians is a justifiable excuse for anti-Semitism. You didn't explicitly say that and I'm sure you don't even think that, but what you wrote could be interpreted that way.

neverthmore · 04/12/2024 16:34

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 16:27

I clearly state I'm Jewish and a Jewish activist.

I didn't state that anti-semitism only began when Israel first attacked and invaded Palestine in the 40s, did I?

If you're reading this from a brief 2 line comment on a mumsnet thread, you're clearly very insightful and I appreciate that. But it was just a 2 line comment, and you're attacking me for something you think I'm insinuating, but I'm not insinuating anything! I apologise if my comment is so vague it's misinterpretable, but it's mumsnet, and it's 2 lines. How much can I have possibly said in 2 lines that makes me antisemitic and a racist to you?

Two points:

A free Palestine (whether two state, or one single state for all the Arabs and Jews currently living in the Holy Land) may well reduce anti-Semitism from some quarters, but it surely won't eradicate it forever. Anti-Semitism has existed for centuries.)

Secondly: the fact that Palestinians undoubtedly suffer oppression is in itself no excuse for anti-Semitism.

I didn't say it was an excuse. I literally wrote two lines, and I didn't write anything to indicate I think it's an excuse to abuse Jews.

Officers in Barnet are investigating a potential hate crime after a school bus was targeted on High Street, Edgware. Stones were thrown at the bus before a group of other students got on and made antisemitic remarks towards those on board. Officers from the safer transport team have spoken to the victims involved, as well as their parents, and enquiries are ongoing

This is a quote from the Met Police in the article. They state they have interviewed witnesses and anti-Semitic abuse was made by the attackers.

Now, you either didn't read this very short article well, so missed this.

Or are so keen the find reasons that anti-Semitic attacks are not anti-Semitic that you blanked this from your memory.
Or you think this is all a big Jewish Conspiracy and the witnesses or JC and DM (perhaps because Jews control the media) or all three are just outright lying. Or maybe the police are lying too, and are part of the Jewish conspiracy as well.

‘potential’ is the key world there. That’s why it’s not a global news headline.
unfortunately headlines tend to follow both the extreme and,
if they’re doing their job correctly, the truth.

If this was a hate crime and it’s proven and they find those kids and there are consequences then THATs when it becomes a bigger news story than rival school kids.
I don’t believe in conspiracies, BTW, any more than I believe in any version of god regardless of what side he’s on.

If OPs original question is WHY is t this a headline the answer is because there’s not really a story -yet- unless you believe in an antisemitic pack by all major news organisations???

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 16:28

Whether or not you hold anti-Semitic views is based on your actual expressed views, not your ethnicity. Just like whether you hold misogynistic views is based on your actual expressed views, not your sex.

I'm aware. I also stated that I'm a Jewish activist, so clearly not anti-semitic. I don't need to justify that on mumsnet of all places. My original comment was 2 lines that have been wildly misinterpreted and now I, a Jew, am being called antisemitic. I don't think that was the purpose of this thread!

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 16:27

neverthmore · 04/12/2024 16:10

Was that meant to be some sort of gotcha? Sorry its not. Just like women can hold misogynistic views.

Your argument is also untrue, and ahistorical, as it ignores the fact that anti-Semitism was thoroughly active for the centuries and millenia before the Israel/ Palestine conflict.

But you must know that.

So the only reason for your comment was to somehow blame Jews for the racism they face in the UK. Which is a deeply anti-Semitic view.

All sorts of sectarianism has been rife in the U.K. for decades. Against Jews, Muslims,
Sikhs, Catholics, Protestants and on and on and on… no-one has a monopoly.
If anything it just shows how we need to be wary of ALL religions and make sure that human rights aren’t ever trumped by the right to believe in imaginary characters who apparently hold the fate of mankind at their whims

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 16:23

Turnups · 04/12/2024 16:10

What a silly comment. You think there was no antisemitism before the creation of Palestine?

But at least you are tacitly admitting that there is antisemitism in the UK caused by the wholly irrational blaming of British Jews for actions taken by the Israeli government. Shame you didn’t condemn it, though.

You're making up a lot and reading between lines that aren't there. I'm Jewish, I don't need to condemn antisemitism or justify my beliefs thank you. As for the ‘reporting’ of this story 1 is the JC and the other is the Fail quoting the JC story - talk about lazy journalism. If the DM actually
cared it would investigate this incident, find out the actual facts and THEN it might actually become a bigger news story.

And I wouldn't say nothing has been done to stop islamophobia. Look at how quickly the justice system worked to deal with the people involved in the far right riots recently..look how many were sent to prison. Quite rightly too.
