To think this attack on London Jewish schoolchildren should have been headline news

I have been waiting for this story to go mainstream, and I’m shocked that it hasn’t.

So far, it seems only the Daily Mail has reported on it - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14142235/amp/Jewish-children-terrified-thugs-London-bus-rocks-Israel.html.

When are we going to start taking the threats against Jews in the UK seriously and actually do something about it?

Thugs throw rocks at bus with Jewish children and yell 'f*** Israel'

Students at JFS in Kenton, north London, were travelling on buses operated by Uno, when the vehicles were set upon by a group of teenage thugs at a bus stop in Edgware, on Wednesday.

Last I heard they had suspects in custody. Although I'm not sure antisemitic attacks are a priority for the Met these days.

I wonder what the police investigation has actually turned up in this. They should ah e a good idea by now. What with cctv from the bus etc

And also statements from the two bus drivers and the students on the bus. The police also made an appeal for witnesses.
Police are also aware of which school the attackers attend, so it would be interesting to find out how the incident was followed up in that particular school.

No, quite a lot of us. And I would like to point out that lest you think this is all about Israel/Palestine, we also have to worry about right wingers.

have you heard about the synagogues being firebombed and shot at in Australia and Canada?

I'd say the left are just as bad @knitnerd90

Probably just rival kids mucking about with firebombs and guns, nothing antisemitic about it. /s.

‘But some are just pedantically discussing the question posed "should this be headline news". ’

Because OPs original question was why isn’t it!

Wow. This thread is depressing. I never realised anti-semitism was quite so widely acceptable.
No wonder Jews are living fear atm.

Not all of them.

I hope they are caught. This is completely unacceptable and it would be if it were Christians doing it to Muslims. No one, full stop, should be doing this.

I'm biting my tongue here.

The JC sin't what it used to be, but we have independent confirmation, and as a Jew who used to live in London (my children might well have attended JFS if we had stayed!) I can tell you that harassment has been an issue for quite some time. It was a bigger issue at King Solomon in Ilford.

Some people on this thread are really digging to avoid the truth.

Edited

Some people are. But some are just pedantically discussing the question posed "should this be headline news". A better question would be "isn't this antisemitic attack outrageous, and what should we be doing about it?"

Personally I think we should publicise racist attacks much more, not start fearing encouraging the racists, and if this brings some of the antisemites and other racists out of the woodwork they should be pursued and prosecuted.

But not many people (ok,some) on the thread are actually claiming it is unimportant.

It was reported in the local news and several outlets like Yahoo news and GB news.
It was a terrible attack that needs further investigating and the perpetrators held to account, but I wouldn't expect it to be in headline news. In my town a student threatened a teacher and other studens with a knife and that didn't even make it to the local news.

There was a racist attack in my local city a few weeks ago, a house BURNT out and the family made homeless. Didn’t make it out of the regional news.

It's been reported by many outlets, not just Jewish outlets which you seem to have a problem with.

But even if there was 4k footage from a hundred different angles and a hundred independent witnesses you'd still find an excuse for the racist cunts.

@Paddymcpaddy
Maybe try watching the videos the racists themselves recorded since you seem unwilling to believe the victims

yes of course it should be headline news antisemitism is not acceptable

regardless of your beliefs around the actions of Israeli government

Humdingerydoo · 10/12/2024 10:27

@Paddymcpaddy
It doesn't matter even if it was "just" rivalry between two schools - surely you can see that it was racism??? Racism is racism, even if that racism started out as rivalry. And racism is unacceptable even if it is coming from rival school children. Unless you think the video evidence is inaccurate and they didn't shout racist abuse?

This was a racist attack by racists against Jewish school children on a school bus. Which school the racists attend is completely irrelevant as no rivalry should ever resort to racism. It's really not that complicated or worth trying to defend.

Paddymcpaddy · 10/12/2024 09:29

‘Some of you aren't even pretending to hide it anymore.’

I’d be saying EXACTLY the same if it was Muslim kids and Jewish kids allegedly doing this, or Catholic kids allegedly attacking Protestant kids, or white kids in black kids, or black kids on Asian kids etc etc etc
It’s not news because the facts haven’t been established. It’s all alleged.

when I was a teen I was at faith grammar school. The kids from the local opposite faith secondary school used to yell at us, call names etc sometimes throw stuff. All very sectarian.
It came to a head one winter when they ‘attacked’ a load of kids with snowballs, and it got rough.

The schools got our year and their equivalent together in a school hall to talk to us all. This went in weekly for a while. It turned out that they didn’t actually care that we were the other faith. They thought we were ‘posh’ and nerds because it was a grammar. We weren’t really either. It wasn’t really about religion. It was one uniform and the other, us and them.

30 years later the two schools still have regular politics, history. Community meetings together

things aren’t always what they seem.

Paddymcpaddy · Today 12:24
I expect it’s got nothing to do with national policy, and more the fact that it may have been nothing much more than a spat between 2 rival schools - despite the language used

Getting on a school bus of kids from a Jewish school and yelling “F Israel”, then getting on the bus to carry on shouting antisemitic insults, is nothing to do with rivalry. It’s antisemitic hate crime. If someone hurled rocks at a school bus of kids from an Islamic school and yelled ‘F Palestine’ , then got on the bus and continued making Islamophobic insults, that would be Islamophobic hate crime. Let’s just stop downplaying it because it happened to Jewish kids, and call it what it was.

I’m not. And if it was a racist attack And the only actual report was from a very biased source I would be saying the same.
The JC just can’t be trusted to report properly anymore, many of their own columnists recently quit because of their bias.
THe OPs original question was why isn’t this headline news - and the answer may be because there isn’t actually a headline yet.
When the police investigate and find that what JC are saying is true, THEN it’s a headline.

Unfortunately, for many people, to be Black in this country is to go about your business with a target on your back, not knowing where the next attack is going to come from. You know it's going to come, you just just don't know whether it will be institutional, structural, a leftie 'friend' or racist foe. It won't matter to most racists whether you have an accent or a foreign sounding name, they are just bonus points of attack. Diane Abbott is a good example of this She is intelligent, has an English name, a broad vocabulary, no foreign accent and was born here. The level of racism she has had to endure is horrific.

Mumsnet is full posters waxing lyrical about how we are one of the most welcoming countries in the world, how racism doesn't exist here and even if it does, it's not a bad as America. That's a pretty low bar. This country is far from tolerant and getting worse.

Edited

Completely agree. I don’t like Diane Abbot per se but he’s not because of her politics and political views and nothing to do with her being Black or a woman.

Britain is not a welcoming place. Brexit made it worse as has other conflicts around the world.

I am a foreign, white, native English speaker and encounter prejudice on a very regular basis. Very regular basis. Let that sink in. Every time it happens I think about how it is a drop in the ocean to what others have to deal with. I can only imagine.
