Husband picks his nose and eats it

My husband works away and a few months ago on FaceTime, he was ‘discreetly’ picking his nose and it looked like he was eating it. I called him out and he kinda just laughed. Honestly, I was horrified. Then on other calls, he tried to hide his lower face but he didn’t put the camera low enough down and he whipped the bogey from nose to mouth so I know he is doing it. I feel like, why would you choose to do that right now? On our call? He’s done it a few times now and I just call him out every time. He doesn’t really say much when I call him out- just gets a bit embarrassed. We’ve been together over 20 years but I see him differently now. Maybe it’s small to some people but this has completely disgusted me. The thought of kissing him repulses me. I wouldn’t say I’m head over heels in love with him or anything but I quite like his company for the most part and we have a pretty good sex life but this has changed things. I’m so grossed out. Am I being unreasonable? Is it over?

Frequent nose picker here. NEVER ever eaten it though.

Usedtobeslummy · 03/12/2024 22:40

My exs insatiable desire to eat his own bogies is why he’s an ex. Non stop. I had to physically turn away.

not the only reason we split ofc but a reasonable part of it.

It’s a weird thing to do. I liken it to eating earwax or something, people don’t do that though. Although, technically, snot does travel from you nose to your throat constantly so in that sense we are all eating it all the time.

That’s absolutely true now you mention it, and has ruined my evening.

vapourtrail · 03/12/2024 22:39

I see men doing this staring into space / at their phone while picking their nose all the time on my commuter train it is repulsive. And not even discreetly, having a good old root around. On a packed train! Some eat it, some flick it off and I don't know which is worse as who knows where that flying bogey will land...🤮

FedupMum2024 · 03/12/2024 21:44

Is why I would never do it in front of anybody else, but in private, yes. And it's come out of my own body so it will not kill me 🤭

There's some dodgy reasoning there somewhere...

DontBiteTheCat · 03/12/2024 22:38

You all know this is going to end up in the DM, right?

No we haven't.

I have never done it.

But I have eaten my ear wax.

Edited

Wtf! 🤮🤮

I do this when in the car (only at night time when it is dark obviously!)

We have ALL done it but of course nobody will ever admit to it.

No we fucking haven't. Disgusting.

I'm pregnant and the quote made me gag and get up to make a dash to the toilet.

Bless you, it is a tough road, I craved the smell of petrol when I was pregnant. But vomitted at BO. It’s a weird time, I feel for you!

I love picking my nose and eating it. The chewy ones with a bit of wet are the best!

Seriously questioning my life choices when this is popping up as a notification on my phone.

This genuinely made my stomach turn.

Lola700 · 03/12/2024 22:01

And I’m struggling to get over it. How do I get over it? It’s so gross.

You don't get over it. Perhaps you can learn to ignore it, but it won't go away. I'm sorry. You're right. It's so gross.

YourAzureEagle · 03/12/2024 22:31

Nothing like tucking in to the head buffet - earwax, tangy!

when I was an engineering apprentice, one little gem I learned, greasy hands? no swarfega or soap to hand? snot is a surfactant like soap, blow you nose well into your cupped hands, rub in well and rinse - works a treat, done it a few times in desperation!

Busywithsomething · 03/12/2024 22:30

Yeah I couldn't kiss anyone if I knew they did that. I don't eat mine and I think it's grim. Hideous. I don't eat any of my body's secretions.

Plus I pick my earwax and sometimes eat it.

Also love picking my skin and eating that!

Apparently, these are OCD traits, possibly ADHD too...

Nope sorry I have ocd and I do not eat my ear wax and boogers thank you 😂😭

Josie901 · 03/12/2024 22:26

I have no recollection of ever eating it, even as a child. I can't remember not being repulsed by it. So bogey eaters, speak for yourselves.

This would absolutely kill my sex life OP. I couldn't kiss him on the lips. YANBU.

Do you know, I read it at the time and remember reading they had trouble getting people to sign up to a full study on eating bogies! Surprisingly!

Right?! 😂

TheChosenTwo · 03/12/2024 22:23

Strangely I always pick my nose in the shower 😂
I don’t eat my findings though, I think of them as balls of germs your body has no use for, like a waste product similar to your crap and pee! This is not scientific clearly!!

Apart from it doesn't because there is a MASSIVE disclaimer at the start of the article: Update: This story, reported by numerous news outlets, has been the subject of an article by Lead Stories, which found it to be inaccurate. The study referred (and linked) to in paragraph 3 does not make any explicit mention of eating snot, let alone recommend the consumption of bogies picked from the nose in order to defend against respiratory infection, stomach ulcers or HIV, among other health benefits. The quote from Professor Bischinger pre-dates the study by a decade and appears not to relate to any specific research. We are glad to update the matter.

SoManyTshirts · 03/12/2024 22:18

So those who pick their nose and don’t eat it (very salty taste, fyi) what do you do with the results?

Arlanymor · 03/12/2024 22:18

Coatsoff42 · 03/12/2024 22:16

The Independant thinks it’s great for all sorts of allergies and infections, and we should be encouraging our growing children to pick their noses and eat it!

The human body is a mysterious place, and disgust is such a strong universal emotion!
