Teacher treating children too young

My child is in a year 3 class, the teacher now sings a song to get them to sit on the carpet and has organised a book advent for this week. The children are 7 and 8, I feel they are far too old to be sung to sit on the carpet. Aibu to talk to the headteacher?

You’re absolutely not being unreasonable. How very DARE this teacher sing to a child over the age of 6. It’s verging on corporal punishment making them sit on the carpet. No wonder the education system is falling apart at the seams. These singing teachers are the cause of it.

And this, gentle reader, is what causes teachers to quit.

Really stupid question.

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 01/12/2024 21:49

Wow. Can you really not read what you've written and see that it's just utter nonsense? How would you feel if someone with no experience or understanding of what you do came and tried to tell you all the things you are apparently doing wrong? Why is it okay to be so rude?

QueenOfWeeds · 01/12/2024 21:49

The teacher bought them books! Absolutely complain. Please do. It’s a long term, the staff could use a laugh.

How else would you like the teacher to get the children to sit down? Songs are a great cue without being naggy, and also act like a timer. 30 second song = 30 seconds to be sitting down ready, but without actually putting the pressure of a timer on.

This seems a strange thing to be complaining about to me as well op. Maybe some children find it hard to sit still so she's encouraging them to move around the room to keep their focus and break up the day. I see no issues with a song to draw them in either. Lots of youth clubs will do similar for the likes of campfires and kids of that age love it. I think unless there's a safeguarding issue or your child's results are declining then let her do her job.

Book advent is amazing!

Thedishwasherbroke · 01/12/2024 21:46

Yes you’re ridiculously unreasonable. How the teacher manages her classroom is none of your business and not for you to express an opinion on unless it’s actually detrimental to your child or a safeguarding issue or the like. Your child might seem to old for the song, maybe lots of classmates aren’t.

Do parents really go to the headteacher over this kind of trivial micromanaging nonsense?

And what on earth is wrong with a book Advent?

MillyMichaelson · 01/12/2024 21:46

Um what? If a song signals them all to sit down, what's the problem?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 01/12/2024 21:46

I think you need to keep your opinions to yourself and let the teacher do her bloody job!!

Seashor · 01/12/2024 21:45

Unbelievable!!! You honestly think the headteacher has time to waste on this!!

EdithGrantham · 01/12/2024 21:45

Jfc, teachers really can do nothing right can they!?

EVHead · 01/12/2024 21:42

They’re absolutely fine to be sitting on the floor at that age. Let the teacher get on with their job.

When I taught year 4 I had a song for tidying up and a song for the end of the day. And they loved it.

Depends on the song I suppose.
