To not understand how it’s only TODAY that I’ve ever watched Love Actually

And it was bloody lovely!

I genuinely don’t know how I’ve never seen this despite being 51. In my defence I’m not much of a film lover by DD had heard about it and decided to put it on.

So many big names in it, it was fab.

My heart actually broke for Emma Thompsons character though, what a shit of a man. Wonder if he did sleep with that woman.

I love that film

I love Love Actually, (but I still haven't seen The Holiday)

I love Love Actually too. But give The Holiday a serve. It’s awful IMO.

Exactly. Talk about shades of the Sistine Chapel.

Bullshit. My silent reaction to a film I found obnoxious is hardly screaming in the Sistine Chapel.

squirming with boredom and distaste bordering on disgust the whole time

Its just a film!

Yeah, and? I wasn't able to turn it off, which I would have if I'd been at home. I don't like being presented with misogyny as entertainment. Would you say "it's just a film" if you were made to sit through something you loathed?

FoxtonFoxton · 01/12/2024 20:38

I know it's hated on MN -and I have to agree. It's not aged well. I always think it's a film full of really detestable people that never get the ending they really deserve. Everyone likes different things though, I'm more of a sci-fi/horror person.

Well I may be going against the grain here, but I was rolling around on the floor with laughter at Hugh Grant doing his "dance" to Jump - luckily watching alone in the privacy of my own (mortgage paid off) house. Still makes me laugh.
And the line about being first Lobster in the nativity play reminds me of being in church one Christmas morning, where the Sunday School was asked about the difference between the nativity scene at the entrance to the church and the one on the altar steps. A voice piped up "what about the camels".

I love it. I'm not a film snob though.

StaunchMomma · 01/12/2024 20:32

Has anyone seen The Family Stone?

I didn't expect much from it but I think it's a great Xmas movie.

Now THAT is worth a watch!

Guavafish1 · 01/12/2024 20:30

Yikes!

WingingItSince1973 · 01/12/2024 20:29

Oh for goodness sake ignore my comment. It was about another film 😂😂😂

VickyEadieofThigh · 01/12/2024 20:29

The best Xmas film is Muppet Christmas Carol. The end.

I am 55. I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing, Top Gun or Love Actually!

You're not missing out on much.

WingingItSince1973 · 01/12/2024 20:28

Also never seen Love Actually 😜

WingingItSince1973 · 01/12/2024 20:27

I'm 51 and never seen it 😀

Catsmere · 01/12/2024 20:16

My sister plays it every Christmas and one year I was at her place and had to sit through it. I was squirming with boredom and distaste bordering on disgust the whole time.

Careergoals · 01/12/2024 20:11

Yes I’d heard of it but DD 21 hasn’t until people in her work were talking about it. She wanted to watch it so as I’d never seen it I did too

When you say your DD had heard of it - had you not heard of it before?

I only saw The Holiday last year - now one of my top 3 Christmas films. Loved it.

Careergoals · 01/12/2024 19:50

Ah I had no idea it was hated on here. I loved it 🙈

NuffSaidSam · 01/12/2024 19:41

I'm not keen.

There are so many significantly better films.

Moonlightstars · 01/12/2024 19:41

I used to love it but good it is awful the more you watch it.
