If men were left to organise Christmas themselves

AIBU to think it would be an absolute disaster?

And what would it look like? WineHalo

I can say with 100% certainty it would probably be a simple stress free affair. My DH is amazing at organising, cooking, cleaning etc but he does not do stress, unlike me!! We only have ourselves to blame for the crazy behemoth Christmas has become. I hate it.

PortiasBiscuit · 27/11/2024 17:52

Would have died out centuries ago.

GnomeDePlume · 27/11/2024 17:51

It would be just fine. Probably not many presents and certainly no Christmas cards would be sent.

DH does most of it anyway.

tackychristmas · 27/11/2024 17:51

It would be fine in our house. DH is brilliant with gifts and he’d help more with Christmas dinner if I let him but I don’t like him being in the kitchen.

The only thing he’d not do is plan days out or activities over Christmas.

Chemenger · 27/11/2024 17:51

We would have a three foot Christmas tree and no other decorations. In the larder there would be six bottles of malt whisky, 4 cases of beer, a case of wine, half a kilo of potatoes, a medium sized parsnip, twelve Brussels sprouts, a small pack of chipolata sausages, one packet of bacon, a turkey breast, a huge Christmas pudding and a small carton of single cream. His astonishment that that doesn’t feed six people for four days would be something to behold.

To be fair, the presents would be good.

MrsForgetalot · 27/11/2024 17:50

It would involve kfc and a last minute dash for presents on Christmas Eve.
Nothing would get wrapped.
And the credit card bill in January would come as a complete surprise

spirit20 · 27/11/2024 17:50

Looking at my family, I think it would be an excellent celebration and we'd all have a great time. I think it would possible be slightly less fancy with less frills - more a solid, good quality affair rather than 'fancy' with trimmings, but that's not a bad thing.

WhereIsMyLight · 27/11/2024 17:50

If my husband solely organised it wouldn’t be a disaster. It would probably feature more meat and pies. The tree would go up later and be more haphazard in its decoration than I would personally like. But there would be presents, they would be wrapped. There would be food and it would be cooked (well). The house would be clean and we would have things in for guests.

SprinkleCake · 27/11/2024 17:49

Depends on the man.

My ex used to always pick out the perfect real tree, he would order a wreath and mistletoe from the florist, make a Fortnum and Mason order, go to the butchers and do the food shop, order beautiful presents.

My current partner doesn’t do any of it.

xyzandabc · 27/11/2024 17:49

In our house you might get a regular roast dinner on the day but that would probably be it. Definitely no gifts or decorations or trips to see lights or socialising.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/11/2024 17:48

Wouldn’t happen in our house, DH isn’t bothered by Christmas

TheGreatNorth · 27/11/2024 17:47

DH sorts the food and I sort the gifts (generally). Works ok but we keep it simple and don't have a large family.

Hatty65 · 27/11/2024 17:47

Low key.

It would be low key. And not stressful. Might be a welcome change, to be honest.

Chillilounger · 27/11/2024 17:47

Great food, lots of booze, last minute panic on presents, minimal decorations and a distinct lack of carols/ nativity ( in this house anyway)

LegoTherapy · 27/11/2024 17:47

Last year my exH forgot to wrap our DDs' gifts and rushed round on Christmas Day trying to find them apparently. He never used to be so rubbish.
My brothers are great at gift buying and being organised and put in a lot of effort. My dad left most up to my mum and later me but he went and got all the meat, made sausage rolls, cooked the meat, wrote the Christmas cards and put holly over the pictures on the wall.
I'm a single parent so it's all on me anyway.

MyrtleStrumpet · 27/11/2024 17:46

My DH does Christmas apart from the tree and presents for my family. We have a brilliant Christmas every year.

mindutopia · 27/11/2024 17:46

In our house, it would be absolutely fine and I’d get to sit down! Unfortunately, I am too much of a control freak and cannot unclench, but I don’t really do much of the gift buying or stocking sorting anyway and that is a big part of it.

UpUpUpU · 27/11/2024 17:44

Perfect. There would be lots of fancy food, lovely, well wrapped gifts for us all and festive fun and activities.
Not all men are useless shits

EscapeTheCastle · 27/11/2024 17:44

Sawdust on the floor as the festive decorations.
