My DD gets bored really easily but that's because she's got ADHD.

Edit: just seen this is an old thread 🤦🏼‍♀️

I actually wasn't being snarky to you, sorry if that's the way it came across! I just saw some other people's (obviously ridiculous) suggestions and it reminded me of that one so I posted it. But I do know that's know what you meant for your child.

I didn't read it as sparky at all. It was clearly a funny little anecdote related to the topic, not directly to the OP.

There should be lots of open-ended activities at nursery for her to engage with and explore and extend her play.
Does she watch a lot of screens at home? What does she like to play at home?

Mine is bright, we focussed on physical activity. She did go to an excellent nursery where they taught phonics and numbers which was helpful, she was meaningfully engaged with something and she enjoyed it, her teachers were really attentive and stretched her a bit as well. She could occupy herself though, she rarely got bored because she would pick up random things from the shelves to have a look at, different kinds of puzzles etc. but she would get up and find something else to do if she was disinterested in the teacher led activity. She’s lucky her teacher has a sense of humour.

But what she really needed was a A LOT of exercise. She became extremely active around 2.5 enough that it was commented on by her teacher. She’s still very bright but also quite fit now. If she picks things up easily then she needs a more challenging environment but I would also round it out with trying things she may find difficult.

A lot of her behaviour sounds kind of normal to me for a 2yr old, they like running around and some still snatch. Take her swimming or football tots and wear her out a bit.

I don't really want to do academic stuff yet.

I prefer the idea of building things or puzzles.

Teach a foreign language. Not in the academic way but in reading, storytelling, dance, sing, play - have fun together!

Craftymam · 27/11/2024 00:07

Find out her interests at home. Send her in with stuff to show.

My ds is 2.5 loves hot wheels so we got a magazine and he took that in and they made an activity out of it.

There has been talk of moving to the older kids room, yes.

Why don't they just move her then, it seems like the obvious solution. She's bored, they know she's bored, they have told you she's bored. It is literally their job to A - ensure that she isn't bored, and B - to teach her how to behave.

If she's misbehaving because she's bored, then the answer is staring them in the face.

SqueegieBeckenheimer · 26/11/2024 22:41

OUTDOOR PLAY.

Stonefromthehenge · 26/11/2024 22:32

What dies she do at home, and how fies she behave? Maybe it's just not right for her, too much structure, too little, over or under stimulated. I'd say observe her at home, what works? Advise the nursery or find a setting that suits her better.

😂

Also don’t forget astrophysics, organic chemistry, applied physics and English literature.

Your kid is 2.5. Please don’t flatter yourself (or your child). They aren’t bored they either don’t have a good attention span or don’t like the activities. Whoever told you this is feeding you porkie pies.

Maths activities? Like counting etc? My DD's nursery do this sort of thing with her and they've told me she's operating at reception class level (she's 3.5 and doesn't start reception til next Sept). Perhaps your DD could do something like this if she's really advanced? 🙂

All of you saying Algebra and astronomy might enjoy this offering from a nursery we visited when looking for places for our DC. (this is a translation because the original was in a different language, but the sense is pretty clear). We did have a giggle about the 3 year olds learning about Picasso and Mathematics in Art.

Was this reggio emilia?

Healingsfall · 26/11/2024 22:10

I had this with my ds. He was always forward, could speak well at 2, and could articulate well. When at school he sat at Greater depth throughout primary, went to grammar school and is now on track to be a scientist. He is just one of those who never really has to try, they are just that way.

Thing is, I could never say to people "-he's very intelligent " because people would roll their eyes. So I just went with it quietly. Your dc may be like that, but my advice is just go with the flow, cream will always rise to the top.

I'd look up reggio emilia activities on Pinterest.

Have you got a learning tower and toddler tools so that they can help you cook?

Also, could it be energy driven, maybe they need to be out in a playground for longer, do you have a garden? Get some really good wet weather gear so they can go outside more.

k1233 · 26/11/2024 22:05

I hated kindy and preschool with a passion. I wanted to learn and was extremely frustrated that I couldn't. I taught myself to read. I'm stubborn and tenacious and mum wouldn't read to me when I wanted her to, so I fixed that and could read when I wanted.

I would encourage things that get her thinking. Mental stimulation is tiring.

@Stonefromthehenge I don't think she ' looks baked ' I just think she acts up and that's because they think she's bored and under stimulated.

They seem to think it may be the cause of some bad behaviour.

She plays with her peers and seeks out play but I think she's chatty for example and they're not.

I didn't come up with the reason of her acting up being that she's intelligent and under stimulated in her environment. They told me that.

I meant ' I don't think she looks bored ' not baked m..

Start teaching her letters/phonics. Then if she’s bright enough she can learn to read. Mine read young, it is a great occupier!
