To those who keep advocating trying to get back at neighbours and saying it gets easier the more you confront them etc.
Please read this. 2 children are growing up without parents over a parking space row that escalated.
Both thought they were in the right.

Is it worth it?
You never know who your dealing with.
Just a reminder in case people had forgotten about this.

We had the neighbour who thought she was queen of the street and thought she not only had the power to get us to park somewhere else, but she 'wanted us out of your house and will stop at nothing to force you out'

(jokes on her, what she didn't know is we own our house so had no landlord for her to complain at)

She had fuck all power (apart from a massive ego and an even bigger gob)

Problem was solved when she accidentally burnt her house down-not one neighbour has complained about our parking since

There's no way she would have tried to stab us-she was all gob,no brains and nothing else

These types (mostly) always are

After I moved into my new house, I learned the previous owners had had a really bad dispute with the neighbour that started with a fence maintenance disagreement and escalated to minor vandalism and name calling on both sides.

So far we've had no problems— I think once you both start feuding it's hard to go back.

Exactly, and most people who have a complaint against a neighbour have never actually spoken to them. The first time they speak it's a complaint. It just goes from there.

Parking spaces are the most argued about thing.
You get people on here some not all, but some people encouraging people to get back at others.
There was one person who said leave glass on the driveway.
When it all blows up, where will the person on MN be?
Everything thinks they are right even if they aren't.
You think your right, your neighbour thinks they are right. You get nowhere.
You don't know who your dealing with when you argue.
You have to live among your neighbours.

Of course, if SIL is on MN I will shortly receive a message from her with a link to this story and a comment about how we all have to be careful. Sigh.

If I don't let my neighbour park on my drive, they'll murder me and I'll only have myself to blame? Thanks for the warning.

As ever the first post usually nails it.

This person died due to extreme violence not because of a parking space

I know someone whose sister was stabbed over a row about footballs going over fences. Does that mean we should never ask for our footballs back?

TheTruthICantSay · 26/11/2024 11:18

Well I'm glad everyone seems to have the same view as me. How ridiculous.

It is this paranoia about the tiny minority of unhinged people that is causing us all to retreat further ad further rinto our own worlds, losing any sense of community and, increasingly, limiting and restricting our children.

I consider this story to be more of a lesson in how the armed forces is letting their veterans down by not identifying those who need help and supporting them.

Dotty, did you know the poor family involved? It's an incredibly sad story, and it seems like it's really stuck with you.

TheLimeHedgehog · 26/11/2024 11:14

Wow thanks for that, let's all be doormats and be afraid to stand up for ourselves. Well I had a clusterfuck neighbour who thought they were well hard too, funnily enough we did not take your advice and they moved out after we finally confronted them after months of abuse and just putting up with it by keeping the peace.

The chance of getting stabbed or killed like that is most probably like 01.% , i'll take my chances and not be subject to ongoing antisocial behavior.

NameChange374 · 26/11/2024 11:12

Why on earth have you dredged this up, a propos of nothing, after 2 and a half years? Very odd.

WigglyVonWaggly · 26/11/2024 11:11

I don’t think the lesson here is that people should bow down to absolute dickheads and let them run our neighbourhoods.

BelaLugosisThread · 26/11/2024 11:11

Just a reminder for what? To walk on eggshells lest you aggravate an unhinged man to stab you?

JoggyBear · 26/11/2024 11:10

Ummm. 99.99999999 % of neighbours can have disagreements without turning to murder.

What a ridiculous point you're trying to make.
