New neighbours

After 10 years in our current property we have now have new neighbours. We have a side by side driveway and have been overlooking them partially on our drive as they were moving in with a van. Today they have finished moving in and have their own car and van at the property. We noticed today that their van had been parked completely on our drive and up against our garage. We could neither access the garage, which we need to as hubby has motorbike in there, or get out of our gate. We left in an hour or so then knocked on the door. They said sorry but they needed access to their drive as they were expecting a delivery. We said we didn’t mind but would have been nice if you’d just knocked and asked as how were we to know if it wasn’t gona be there at 5 in the morning when hubby was going to work. I think they were being very cheeky with their assumption that could could just do that but aibu?

I'm dreading this in a couple of weeks time. At least we totally changed our driveway and it no longer matches our neighbours (inherited the matching ones), there really can be no excuse for not seeing the divide.

What did they say when you said it would have been nice if they had asked first!

Cheeky fuckers. No way can that be considered reasonable.

Yes it's cheeky. You've addressed it now so hopefully it won't happen again

Start as you mean to go on op. Yes they were trying to move in, but a polite knock on your door to ask if it's OK and explain they were expecting a delivery would have been the right thing for them to do. How were you to know the situation? And how did they know you didn't require access to your own drive!

This could be a genuine one off, or it could be the start of "oh but we were just...". Keep an eye incase they are CF neighbours.

I think you need to nip this in the bud now. Who moves into a house and parks on next door’s drive without even asking? Very impolite.

I probably would just have let it go as they're trying to move in (agree that it was cheeky tho). But one knocking on their door before 5am to move it should sort it, anyway!
