Plenty of peeps voted labour in for change. Give them a chance to scratch the surface of the mess they took on and start repairing it.
I wonder how many labour voters are now regreting their vote and possibly signing this petition?
Get over it, it's here and we have to get on with it the best we can.
Fwiw I don't vote because none of the parties speak for me and I have no faith in any politician to do the right thing as they all seem to think about themselves.

I think people just want Labour to stop causing harm

I think most people realise that the UK is in a dire state, now you can make excuses for that, Brexit/Covid and Ukraine but that doesn't alter the economics.

the root cause of why some taxes have gone up is due to Jeremy Hunt cutting NI by 4% and not budgeting for public sector pay rises... he left it to the next Govt to sort out.
Then there was the PO and Blood compensation pay outs, all not budgeted for.

If you disagree with that, please explain where the OBR's est of £10billion per year, on going, tax take reduction was going to come from?

Thats £50billion over the the parliamentary term.

CBI now bitching about NI, ok so where does that £7 billion now come from? or what would you cut?

I note the CBI never called for business to pass on savings made to the consumer, after the extension of capital investment relief in Nov 2023.... its all one way.

It's a bit bonkers isn't it? I mean I'm not keen on some of the things Labour are doing - cancelling winter fuel allowance for anyone on an income of £12,000 per year or more (should have been around £30,000 IMO. And the tax on farms if it's worth more than £1 million.

But insisting we have another General Election is farcical. They've only been in 4 months! I've seen a few people on Twitter/X banging on about it - right wing people - saying 'get Labour out/Starmer is a twat etc,' but the Conservatives weren't any better. They robbed the disabled and the poor, and almost destroyed the NHS. (I do feel for the farmers though, and I don't agree with what they're doing there.)

Starmer said (some months back) 'decisions are going to be made that are not going to be popular.'

No Government is ever going to be without criticism, and every Government is going to do things that piss some people off.

As the old saying goes 'you can't please all of the people all of the time.'

True dat!

Destabilising Western democracy.

But that wasn't what the PP you quoted said. Entirely different context.

So they’re too thick to have the vote, then, if they haven’t thought through what the result might be.

With a British petition?

Destabilising Western democracy.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/11/2024 09:48

Who would the people signing this petition want to win? The Tories? Farage’s lot? Or some mythical new party formed entirely of properly competent people?

I haven't signed, won't sign - but if you have seen such proof them please post the links because (a)you can't see who is signing it, (b) the system is designed to accept only UK based people so I am sure parliament would want to know how you found the flaws in their system and (c) what you believe is irrelevant.

There won't be a general election any time soon, and not as a result of this petition. But I do think that Labout need to start listening. 2 million people isn't just a load of Tories with nothing better to do. The unions are already turning against policies. They are hurting working people and they are alienating their own base of support. There will be a price to pay.

The petition site itself has the data on where signatures are coming from.

It’s pathetic isn’t it. And really disappointing to see so many people hoodwinked by Musk and Russia. Demoralising.

EasternStandard · 25/11/2024 09:45

Most people* I know think they're doing a grand old job*

What kind of jobs do they have? Is it more public sector?

I doubt Putin will de-stabilise western democracy through the medium of an orderly British petition.

OP, was there a reason you linked to the petition?

Same. They’re doing what they can to fix 14 years of the terrible tories who got worse and worse. They’re not perfect for sure but definitely better than who they took over from.

The problem is we’ve been sold a lemon
listened to years of bitching and false promises

there an almighty undercurrent of disappointment

No there isn’t, well there is only if you listen to the drivel spewed forth from the likes of Farage, Geebeebies etc.

Fortunately the vast majority of the country aren’t that daft, and appreciate that any meaningful improvement to the state of the country will take a fair time, effort and money. Certainly not a few months.

Labour can't fix all the problems the Tories caused over the last 14 years. Even the old idea that the Conservatives are good with the economy turned out to be a lie.

We have broken public services and a big deficit. No magic wand will fix it. I'm getting impacted by the VAT policy and that's ok with me. I'd rather have that than the Tory plan to keep blaming disabled people and punishing them.

Well it’s not surprising is it? Is there a group of people that Labour has NOT pissed off yet?

Won’t get anywhere, obv.

KnittedCardi · 25/11/2024 09:12

Of course the petition won't get anywhere. Its not unusual for governments to collapse soon after elections though. Europe is a good example. We have a mindset in this country that you have to stick with what you get, which doesn't seem to apply elsewhere. Surely that's democracy??

It's a fast turnaround for a new gov, losing the lead so quickly

To a petition

Not great for Labour, although they'll trundle on. It'll be interesting to see in a year what's going on with public spending

Probioaretheone · 25/11/2024 09:38

DinosaurMunch · 25/11/2024 09:28

It's not right wingers who can't cope with losing. It's foreign actors wanting to destabilise western democracy.

A mixture of both perhaps!

CaptainRedbeardandbigbadbarry · 25/11/2024 09:37

Labour only won the election back in July because they were the only option that weren’t the Tories. Of course the signs were there .. and there was absolutely nothing in their manifesto as to what they were going to do once they were in power. It was all about ‘ vote for change ‘ and Starmer going on about how his Dad was a toolmaker.
Now of course people are seeing what they are all about and it is much much worse than they thought.
