Dad going to Disneyland without his son

Just a rant really about how heartless some men people are. A couple (in their forties with an 8 year old son) I know broke up two years ago. Man had found a younger model (25, blonde, curvy bimbo). I am not close friends with woman but we meet regularly (friend's friend). I run into the man and his bimbo often (she does seem really sweet and kind but not alot brain activity going on). Man has his son 2 week-ends per month and he always complains about how his ex is ruining him financially (I see him often so I don't want a conflict I just say that children are expensive and leave it there). Well today he said he's going to Disneyland during the christmas holidays.I said that "Ben" must be thrilled. That's when he goes "Oh, no we're not taking him. I'm sick of just thinking about everryone else. I already took him with ex when he was younger. This time me and "Bimbo" are going to just have fun. But don't tell Ben or ex. Haha". Bimbo giggling beside him. I went numb. I couldn't find any words. How can you be so utterly selfish it's beyond me. And how a man in his forties can enjoy Disbeyland is beyond me but that's another issue.
I don't want to tell the woman because it's none of my business and also because it's just so bloody hurtful.
AIBU not telling her?

My father went to Disneyland a couple of times in his 40’s- he did bring me back a Minnie Mouse fridge magnet. 😆
Now he’s 84, and although I wasn’t bought up by him after the age of 4 and he never paid maintenance, I’m still expected to look after him now he has dementia. He has put himself first his whole life.

TheMauveBeaker · 26/11/2024 19:45

I see no problem. I also see that it’s not your business.

‘ you can disagree with someone without making personal attacks’
Oh, the irony!

It's actually funny 🤣 🤣!

Typical - she’s realised her mistake after being called out and is backing up so fast she’s practically beeping. In her OP she said that this woman had very little going on in her brain - possibly more insulting than ‘Bimbo’. We all know what she meant, and a half hearted attempt at the origins of the word won’t change that.

So the OP claims by Bimbo she meant "an unintelligent brutish man" who is blonde and giggles a lot. What absolute rubbish.

To all the folks who like Disneyland : Ofcourse you're entitled to like whatever you want. For me it's torture but endurable when I see the joy of my kids but each to their own and I'm sure you would be bored by a lot of things I like as well.

For me the bimbo epithet is unisex and I have met some male bimbos as well as female so I don't get the sexist connotation.

I do meet ex frequently even though we're not close and she has been through hell after the divorce fighting for every penny and going through mh problems. My sympathy is clearly with her and not with her ex who cheated on her with younger woman until she found out the hard way and broke it off. A normal father would atleast have the decency to not be stingy with his son. If he'd paid what he owns without trying to stall and whine (he's well off) I wouldn't care if he goes to Hawaï or Disneyland with his new gf. But under the circumstances it's really vile to neglect his son financially while splurging on himself. For those who can't see that, well I hope you never have to go through something similar.

For those who are being vile and agressive: you can disagree with someone without making personal attacks. It really shows your double standards and I understand why some people say that Mn is a hostile place.

Female solidarity is in calling out an appalling example of misogyny from one woman to another. And a grown man can make a decision on holidaying anywhere he likes as long as his kids are taken care of. And from the OP’s posts it sounds very much as though they are.

Take a look at any thread where the OP's husband has left her for a younger woman and you will see vile misogyny out in full force when speaking about the other woman.

Of course he can go on holiday where he likes. It doesn't make him any less of a shite parent.

Fucking hell, all of these holier-than-thou comments about the OP using the word bimbo.

I've seen FAR more offensive comments than 'bimbo' directed at younger models that poster's exDHs have left them for. Where is your female solidarity then?

YANBU OP. A grown man going to Disneyland and leaving his child behind is cruel. It's most children's dream holiday.

What utter bilge. You know full well what the usage is.
I don't know if you're male or female but either way you know how the term is used.
You're being offensive about a woman. As has been pointed out. Many, many times.
I'm reminded of another thread and some idiot tried to argue that the N word wasn't offensive because of some usage from 1638.
Racists and misogynists always try to justify themselves.

  • aggressive
  • offence

Just being helpful!

People can go on holiday where they want, it’s not an approval situation. I just think it’s odd to go to Disneyland as an adult without children. I used to want to go there as a 6 year old, but the novelty wore off. I’d like very much to go to the alps to a fucking spa hotel, because I’m exhausted, that’s my version of Disneyland!

You've changed your tune a bit, since getting called out 😂

AnnieSnap · 26/11/2024 18:40

You lost me at referring to a women several times as a bimbo. Who needs misogynistic men, with women with your attitude.

celticprincess · 26/11/2024 18:35

Plenty adults go to Disney without children. It’s not a pre requisite to take kids. I know lots of absolutely Disney obsessed adults. And not all kids like theme park rides or theme parks in general.

Personally I can't think of anything more boring than a spa hotel in the alps but, unlike you, I'm not passing judgement on you for wanting to go.

Johnthesensible · 26/11/2024 18:28

Your attitude to him and her is more concerning. Comments about bimbo, not much going on in the brain and ' how a man in his forties can enjoy Disneyland is beyond me'. Me and my ex went to Disneyland several times and i'm going next year with a current partner. So what. I'm over 40.

InterIgnis · 26/11/2024 18:27

I’m not sure why what type of woman she is, as if you’re even in a position to accurately judge her - she’d hardly be inclined to engage you in a conversation on theoretical physics as her boyfriend makes small talk on passing, no matter what she dresses like - has anything to do with, well, anything.

Would you consider him any less of a shit dad if she was dressed down? Or in office attire?

It’s fucking weird two adults going to Disneyland without children.

I couldn’t agree more. Especially one being in his 40s and the other 25… old enough to be her dad though I guess

DH and I are going to Orlando on Sunday. Just the two of us, his kids are grown up. I find it more 'fucking weird' that you judge people for where they choose to holiday

I can make judgements where I like to and I do think it odd for adults to go on holiday to something that in my view is made specifically for children, or people who have the mental age much younger than their years. Get offended all you like.

The word bimbo derives from the Italian bimbo, a masculine-gender term that means "little or baby boy" or "young (male) child" (the feminine form of the Italian word is bimba). Use of this term began in the United States as early as 1919, and was a slang word used to describe an unintelligent or brutish man.

What utter bilge. You know full well what the usage is.

I'm sorry, but you say not your circus, not your monkeys, but then later judge adults going to Disney who are doing nothing wrong, who are simply minding there own business. That's incredibly hypocritical of you.

Not really. I might privately judge them (based on nothing more than my own experience, I hasten to add) but I don't make it my business to get involved and comment on/ invite comment on their choices (excepting specific threads, such as this one, which invites opinions). Most (all) people form opinions about most (all) things inwardly that they don't go around saying.

Danghormones · 26/11/2024 15:06

ChubbyBubbyBoo · 26/11/2024 14:20

Why is everyone attacking OP?! I’m sure if the woman in question really does wear pink all the time and has long blonde hair she wouldn’t even find the word bimbo insulting! Bimbo is a new aesthetic and movement, and often you will hear “Bimbos” talk about female empowerment and owning the aesthetic.

The ex husband sounds like an arse just because he left his wife for a younger woman more than anything.

Edited

Because it’s clear from her misogynistic post that she has no actual regard for the wellbeing or feelings of the child or ex.

whathaveiforgotten · 26/11/2024 15:04

I'm blonde. But I don't wear babydoll dresses and giggle hysterically non stop.

Why did you mention her being blonde then? What was the relevance?
