Ours was pretty tight but now the year before school I can feel is drifting. It’s sad but a bit inevitable I suppose! Has anyone managed to maintain friendships?

What does NCT stand for? Can’t find answer in my google search 😵‍💫

Darkautumnnights · 24/11/2024 20:31

The babies are 22 now and 5 of us are really close. 2 I regard as my closest friends

Tia86 · 24/11/2024 20:30

No. All went wrong when people started having their second and people feeling left out. People then moved. Not even Facebook friends anymore

Hollowvoice · 24/11/2024 20:30

Yes, 13 years and counting. 2 families drifted away for different reasons but the remaining 4 of us are still really good friends, Dads too.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 24/11/2024 20:30

Yes, it’ll be 15 years next month. We meet up every few months, children all get on, it’s lovely.

christmascalypso · 24/11/2024 20:29

Yes 29 years on we are still friends 😀

minipie · 24/11/2024 20:29

Not really. Most of ours moved away within a year or so (we are in London so not surprising I guess). We are still in touch with the two families that stayed longer.

Not now but a couple were really close friends for several years.

Vast majority of couples have split now due to the guys being faithless shits.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 24/11/2024 20:27

I have 2 really close friends and then 2/3 loose friends. Others I'd say hi too but I wouldn't seek them out for a coffee now.

distinctpossibility · 24/11/2024 20:26

I was in a group of 8 but 3 of us are still super close (meet up every week without the kids, have holidayed together etc)
The 3 of us now have 11 kids between us. There's a 4th NCT friend who we love and value but see maybe once every 2 months - her life is just very different ans busier than mine. Best £120 I ever spent -over 13 years ago.

1stWorldProblems · 24/11/2024 20:25

DD2's group - mainly yes and she / the kids were 18 this year. We managed to socialise at least a couple of times a year until secondary school, then the kids had their own group of friends. DD1 still Snapchats a couple of the girls.

I am still FB friends with 5 out of 6 of the sets of parents. The other parent has blocked us all in the last 18 months due to her children coming out as trans - none of the rest of us said anything negative about this but I guess we don't fit her (the mum's) new campaigning lifestyle.

I just have nothing in common with mine, except getting pregnant the same month in the same part of London. I don't dislike them, I wish them all happiness, success and joy, but honestly I have very little inclination make the effort to meet up, as I have bugger-all free time, and other friends and family whose company I just enjoy more.

That’s fair enough - I did a baby class after I had my second where we were added to a WhatsApp group and the group leader encouraged friendship but while we managed a couple of coffees I just didn’t have much in common with them or they with me. So it fizzled quickly.

But I do think having children the same age can be a big thing to have in common especially when you’re navigating motherhood for the first time.

Yes. Mostly for the last 27 years. Catch up with them all separately or in a small group at
least once a month. Two have left the group because they moved out of the area or country. It’s been amazing cos the kids all catch up too and are friends.

I did antenatal classes with a group of ladies, run by a lovely lady, who was able to offer them after the local NHS ones were unable to run. We were all pregnant with our first. Now, 25 years on, these ladies are amongst my closest and oldest friends. There have been five more children between us. We still meet regularly, and will be doing so in just a few weeks for Christmas.
This summer was exceptionally special as we welcomed the first grandchild to our group, with an afternoon of very special new born cuddles.

anicecuppateaa · 24/11/2024 20:23

Yes. First group all but one are still in touch and mums meet regularly. Children have all just turned 7. Second group (different area), children all in reception and all apart from one family meet regularly (tonight in fact!).

FfsNotNow · 24/11/2024 20:23

Eldest DC Year 4 now. Still in contact, annual meet ups altogether but individuals more frequently. WhatsApp still going strong.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 24/11/2024 20:22

12 yrs on - one of them is now one of my closest friends. A couple of others are still acquaintances.

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2024 20:22

No. We lasted a couple of years and then drifted apart.

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 24/11/2024 20:21

No all fell out by the time the kids were age 3. Wasn’t helped by some very strong characters including an ex toxic friend of mine who I should have never agreed to join a group with.

My parents are still friends with their equivalent baby group nearly 50 years on! All of them still married to each other and they meet up regularly.

Stretchedresources · 24/11/2024 20:21

Yes, 18yrs on. We meet up in the school hols. All the teens come along a couple of times a year, we play mini golf in the summer.

MangoRose · 24/11/2024 20:21

Yep 19 years on we are still friends.

whereilived · 24/11/2024 20:19

None of mine have had seconds 😭

We just didn’t like one another. I moved away when DS was about seven months, but we’d stopped communicating months before that.
