It's a shame that Hollywood results in women ruining their looks whilst the men carry on regardless (Wicked)

I've been looking at videos of the lovely Cynthia from the Wicked movie a few years ago. She looked wonderful and healthy. Now her face is all sharp angles. The same for Ariana who looks dangerously thin. I've heard many say that it's the gruelling film schedules etc but I don't see the male members looking like a lettuce leaf would fill them up.
Isn't it sad that actresses still feel this need to look a certain way whilst men don't

for the poster who said Judy Garland didn't have eating issues when she did The Wizard Of Oz.
You're wrong. She did.
But you're correct that they were created by the studio:

scary thing is how desirable this look is to
some people. When my adult daughter weighed under six stones and hadn't had a period for nearly two years, we lost count of the number of
people who told her she looked amazing.
She didn't. She looked poorly.

I completely agree. When my daughter was in the throes of anorexia, she had adult females praising her willpower. This when she already had stunted growth, no periods and weighed 6 stone.

Easier said than done when we live in a patriarchy that rewards those that conform

There are lots of women both in and out of the entertainment industry that do not do this

Using patriarchy is not excuse for not making your own choice, each year women seem to be losing their capacity to think

Well it is choice there has to come a point where people are responsible for their own actions and stop blaming others, women have as much brain capacity to think as men although it is seemingly so less and less these days

They can choose not to do it

It's Ozempic.

The trend for thinness in Hollywood is way older than Ozempic (which isn’t the magic fat blaster some people think it is).

It's very shit. And I'm sick of seeing older male actors alongside young female ones, when older female actors would be amazing in the parts.
But even on here there are threads full of women talking about appearance, aging etc.. men don't really do it

Like this one I guess. Focused on appearance

Bale lost 62lbs for The Machinist 😳

Good lord

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 23/11/2024 21:56

And then had to put 100lbs on in six months for Batman.

I'm reminded of Joaquin Phoenix in Joker 2. I was absolutely shocked at how thin he was. It was uncomfortable to watch. Abuse of your body for a role.

Same with Christian Bale in The Machinist

To think she was only 47 when she died. She looks in her 70s at least here. The studios destroyed her.

crikey I thought that was a photo of a very old lady.

What about all the men in superhero movies who have to go through months of dieting and workouts and then dehydrate themselves before a naked torso scene. Don't fool yourself. It's not just women.

It is mainly women, not just in the film industry. It's undeniable that the pressure on women to stay young/thin etc is a whole other kettle of fish.

rewilded · 23/11/2024 21:49

Why is she with a vicar?

Funnily enough this photo of Judy Garland popped up the other day. I was shocked.

As a PP has alluded to, the widespread use of PED will take its toll on many lead actors' health though it will be less obvious and perhaps take longer. The recreational drug use by both sexes similarly.

rewilded · 23/11/2024 21:48

That is so sad.

She looks painfully thin. Like someone being helped into hospital sick.

Sure I read shes on some very strict vegan diet. Though between being a nickelodeon
star, the dead bf, the Manchester attack, general famous shit, then the whole
shagging a married man with a heavily pregnant wife/baby at home I’m not surprised she’s got a few issues one clearly to do with her eating.

KrisAkabusi · 23/11/2024 20:42

I know many people are naturally thin but neither of these two were this thin a few years ago

Arianna Grande has been skeletal her entire career!

I've got teenage girls who are fans of Ari. And have watched her back in her "Victorius" days.
She was always slim yes, but not like this.

FleaDog · 23/11/2024 21:37

AG needs to stop having plastic surgery. Her nose is a completely different shape.
