As our main political leader I find his manner very condescending & passive aggressive. Very upset watching this.. Video linked here. Care workers in Ireland have been let down very badly by our politicians

Also think about the feelings of that poor care worker. According to this article she was left feeling "very shaken". That is not how one should feel after meeting anyone never mind our Taoiseach. So please spare a thought for Charlotte Fallon too like the rest of the country. She said in this here she went home crying. There is no defending that type of behaviour. RTE were correct in making the incident public knowledge.

‘He was horrible last night’ – Carer in exchange with Simon Harris ‘shaken’ after incident

The disability worker at the centre of the tense exchange with Taoiseach Simon Harris in Cork yesterday said she was “shaken” following the interaction and accused Simon Harris of being “horrible” in their exchange.

You are right . Families are suffering terribly. As a teacher l have some experience in fighting tooth and nail for an SNA , for ongoing support..everything. My issue was completely obliterating someone online, everywhere on one reaction. Fine , don't vote for him but there is no need for a full on character assassination.

That poor woman was obliterated on RTE, spoken over, her feelings & opinions completely invalidated, completely shot down.
I wasn't voting for Fine Gael anyway but the treatment of this women is a reminder of how scoliosis families are treated.. Simon said no child would be waiting for surgery more than 4 months, children are waiting years. The cervical cancer scandal is another one. Also the bike shed & childrens hospital. Autism families are invisible. Politicians need to be held accountable, we have an election on Friday & I feel our taoiseachs actions in Co. Cork were completely unacceptable. I have a right to express that you know. If you want to see full a character assassination have a look in the comments section of any article accross social media. People are angry & fed up with good reason. I expect more a lot from a head of state.
As a teacher you shouldn't have to fight for what your children are entitled to. Yours & their needs should be met by government. It's happening accross all sectors. This government have failed many, many groups not just teachers.

I am in lreland. I hate this tendency to pick one incidence during a busy campaign trail and use it against someone to the point of destruction. Its akin to cancel culture. OK show the video and people will make up their own mind but going into a complete barrage against the man is completely unnecessary. Harris got involved in politics originally due to his brothers autism and the need to fight for things for him so l presume he has some idea of what families with a loved one with a disability endures.
Aontu have good policies but its easy to say stuff when there is very little chance you will being called on to put your money where your mouth is.
I have no political affiliation but l hate the modern way of completely wiping someone out due to one incident under stress.

Ask any family with children with autism they are getting NO support, no funding, no supports in schools. The way children with Autism are treated is shocking, therapy lists are very long & again only well off families can afford private supports & even at that the waiting lists are long..
No SNAs the list is endless.. So you are saying he got into politics to help families with autism. Well he hasn't done anything to alleviate the burden!

This 13 year child is doing far more than any politician in government to fight for the rights of autistic children & their carers!!

And?

He's a good speaker but I'm not going to vote for a party whose values I fundamentally disagree with.

I notice they're being very quiet on the abortion issue even though it's right at the core of who they are. I say 'they', but really the only candidate you ever hear speak is their dear leader (a point the journalists called out at the manifesto launch).

As someone who campaigned hard for Repeal in 2018, there is not a snowball's chance in hell that I would vote for Aontu.

As are all the other parties being very quite about their allegiance to trans ideology which they fully support.
Fianna Gael, Fianna Fáil, The Greens, Labour, Social Democrats, People before Profit, Sinn Féin have all been captured by Gender Ideologies & their activists. All the parties listed believe men can be woman, men can have babies & men with penis can enter female spaces, prisons & sports teams. They left Barbie Kardashian in a female prison for months due to the Gender Recognition Act. Thank God Aontú want to repeal this so we don't have another Barbie Kardashian scandal. How dare they treat females like this.

@Sakura7 i honestly don't give a fiddlers fart who you vote for. We live in a democracy (for the moment anyways this govt would happily slap the hate speech Bill over the lot of us!) But I have no problem vouching for why I myself will vote for Aontú.

Oh, I don’t know. He isn’t the first politician to have an awkward encounter made the most of by rival politicians and people who didn’t like him anyway. I’m reminded of Gordon Brown and the “bigot” encounter.

I’m not a big fan of these people who ambush politicians in this way. I don’t think they are always quite as they are portrayed.

Fine Gael are not liked anyway. Helen McEntee looked in jeopardy before this.
Simon Harris left the country down with his behaviour. This video has gone viral globally & is absolutely gaining momentum. He has also let his current TDs & councillors down big time a week before the election. I'm sure morale must be very low within Fine Gael after the incident in Co Cork.

I agree. He completely accepted that he was wrong, apologised personally to her and had the discussion that she wanted. Case closed for me. I don't see the need to blow it up into a big thing.

He publicly launched his manifesto on Thursday. He had his & the other leaders would have seen Aontú's prior to the debate. None of the other nine leaders saw anything from Sinn Féin & Peadar rightly called Mary Lou out as did the others.

This is just nonsense. Nobody called Aontu out on their lack of a manifesto because they'll be nowhere near leading a government. It's an irrelevance. SF is the only realistic alternative to lead a government and SH and MM had the attacks ready to go.

Cervical cancer scandal.. Scoliosis children waiting 4 years for treatment after he promised they would only be waiting a couple of months ..
The childrens hospital.
The bike shed
Would a "good man" let all the above happen on his watch?
I agree with the woman as does the majority of the country.. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Thank you RTE!

I said he was right to walk away when she insulted him. Him being a good man (or not) is irrelevant to that point.

Aontú at least are extremely gender critical & want the Gender Recognition Act reversed. I'm a single issue voter who is shocked at how captured the main parties are with gender identity so I am delighted to have Aontú to vote for. This quote from RTE sums it up!

Are you the same person that was shilling aontú, the party who are against women's healthcare on another thread in craicnet or is there more than one of you?

Peadar at least had a manifesto at the debate last Monday night & called Mary Lou out for Sinn Féin not having theirs!

Not so, they only released it on Thursday just gone!

It wasn't Peadar making an issue of the SF manifesto, it was Simon Harris. It would have been massively hypocritical coming from Peadar!

I do not want males with penis identifying as "women" in my personal spaces. I don't care if there is only one man identifing as a woman, I don't want his penis in my female only space or my daughters. Aontú want to repeal the Gender Recognition Act which is fantastic & a good step forward. Thank God the pronoun nonsense has faded away but I am very happy that Aontú are taking a very strong stand against gender ideology & vouch to protect female only spaces. A

I am a single issue voter, always have been. Aontú really impressed during the care /family referendum. They never once faltered from their firm stance on No/No & ultimately were the only Dáil party on the winning side.

Read Aontú's manifesto they have a good housing plan & it's certainly more credible than some of the others.

They are also very vocal & against the pornographic sphe programme this government happily rolled out.

Aontu are very much against the dangerous hate speech Bill & Peadar Toibín did not sign the new hate crime bill. Proper opposition

I don't give a fiddlers fart who you are voting for @mollyfolk

The mind boggles

Right now, we have 14,486 people homeless in the state. In a country that is awash with money we are failing in the most basic ways.

There are on average 100 people a year who have changed their legal gender using the Gender recognition act.

What seems the most pressing to you?

Imperiallanger · 24/11/2024 00:06

Remember Kamala Harris was supposed to win the US election by a landslide according to the polls. Look how that turned out😅

At best she inched ahead of him in some polls by the narrowest of margins.

It's a truly bonkers comparison. And I say this as a non Fine Gael voter.

If you are a socially conservative nationalist who hates trans people more than you value reproductive rights well Aontú is the right party for you.

And isn't it wonderful we have a decent choice for the elections. We can all vote for parties that align with our views.

Another thread that reads like an Aontú party political broadcast.

For a party that are set to get 3% of the vote they sure seem over represented on here.

Comparing Simon Harris to trump ? 🤣 he might have handled it better but I can't see him shouting grab them by the pussy anytime soon.

whichcandidate.ie is a good starting point for trying to decide.

This.

Simon Harris handled the situation extremely badly yesterday, but it's quite clear now what OP's agenda is.

Aontu as a party only exists because of Toibin's opposition to repeal of the 8th. They are hardly champions of women's rights. And the 3 day waiting period should go, aside from being a barrier to women accessing appropriate healthcare (particularly in some rural areas where coverage is dreadful), it's downright insulting too.

As for presenting Gript as a viable source, that's absolutely laughable.
