In general, don’t they?

(I’m not Irish, great grandad was)

I’m Irish but don’t drink alcohol so am considered a complete and utter bore by the majority of people here. Believe me, most of them don’t have personality and character when sober.

Renamedyetagain · 21/11/2024 22:41

But yes, a bit of a stupid post. I have the same opinion about Canadians, based on my reasoning above.

Renamedyetagain · 21/11/2024 22:40

Maybe because the ones you've met have travelled, are interested in others, are interested in the world?

Baileyscoffeeat1030 · 21/11/2024 22:39

@Ketzele 😂

I could show you a ton of tedious Irish gits (most related to me).

Baileyscoffeeat1030 · 21/11/2024 22:36

Not sure how to explain it…they’re a bit different, quirky often, funny, interesting…

Irish people are varied in their personalities just as people from any other nation are. There’s no “Irish gene” that renders someone more interesting or gives them more depth.

Some are charismatic, some are funny, some are dull and stupid. Just like people from England or Norway or Bulgaria or Swaziland.

As another poster rightly says if you had said they were all stupid you would be accused of racism. This is the same principle just with a positive spin. Mindless discrimination based on nationality and heritage.

Stupid post.

Breadcat24 · 21/11/2024 22:35

It also depends on circumstances "colourful" is amusing in a social event or pub - less so 3 weeks into a delayed work project.
Also I would be interested to know what you mean by character- as that used to mean integrity in which case i have come across many individuals from many counties with integrity

Parapaderapa · 21/11/2024 22:35

Oooh interesting! I’ve never heard of low and high personality and character as a scale. Just different types of each.

How is this quantified? Do Nigerians have less or more character? How do Samoans rank?

Shopgirl1 · 21/11/2024 22:34

This is nonsense. And I say that as someone with an Irish mother and English father who spent half my childhood in the UK and half in Ireland. Lots of people in both places with plenty of character and personality and lots with very little.

Baileyscoffeeat1030 · 21/11/2024 22:34

@NotSayingImBatman Agree, Geordies are great (I’m a Mancunian)

But almost all the Irish Ive met (a lot) have real character, there’s something about them.
I live abroad and most people seem to dislike the Brits..sadly, but they always speak very highly of Irish people.

I mean, every Welsh person I have ever met was nice and charming, but this is because I’ve probably spent a month of my life in total in Wales and don’t know many Welsh people well. I’m fully prepared to believe that Wales breeds as many total arses as anywhere else, I e just been lucky enough not to have encountered thrm.

SmalllChange · 21/11/2024 22:33

Breadcat24 · 21/11/2024 22:29

I have come across nice and charming Irish people and ones in your face being arseholes about the craic , Same as everywhere else really.
so no

I'm Irish and I completely agree.

Quakingteacup · 21/11/2024 22:31

Different cultures sometimes have different ways of expressing personality and character, rather than more or less innately.

I really like some aspects I see as part of Irish culture, such as music and storytelling, that go well with colourful personalities.

NotSayingImBatman · 21/11/2024 22:31

Than southerners? Definitely.

Than geordies? Nee chance, pet 😂

TheErinyes · 21/11/2024 22:31

Speaking as an Irish person who spent 25 years living in England, several in the US, a couple in France and a few in the ME, I’d say the pain in the arse quotient is constant everywhere, just in different cultural styles.

Positivenancy · 21/11/2024 22:30

Irish here!! Ah yeah we are great!! 🙌🙌 but truthfully we do have our fair share of boring characters here. But as a nation I’d say we’re full of fun…I’m biased though.

@Wherethewildthingsfart Than some other people…

Can you give an example or is just the Irish that you generalise?

I agree with you, OP!

Baileyscoffeeat1030 · 21/11/2024 22:28

@Whatatodo79 Ffs…i’m not being racist!!

OP posts:
Whatatodo79 · 21/11/2024 22:27

And if you made a sweeping statement about the individual qualities of people from another country or culture based only on the fact of where they were from and it was a negative statement, that would be called, oh remind me, racist. No?

Wherethewildthingsfart · 21/11/2024 22:27

Don’t know how I posted twice?
