I noticed this story in the Mail today Gen Z are ditching traditional sandwich fillings such as ham & mustard or cheddar in favour of "woke" fillings such as chicken, foreign cheeses or avocado. But how can a sandwich filling be "woke"? IMO the word is now used to describe anything that people don't like.

Now Gen Z are waging war on our sandwiches!

Popular bread manufacturer Allinson's launched its Great British Sandwich Study to lift the lids on the nation's lunchboxes and reveal their changing tastes for the beloved snack.

A local cafe I was in last week had a goats cheese with balsamic onion jam toasted sandwich. It looked delicious but I don't like goats cheese.

If I were to guess at what a woke sandwich filling would be, it would involve air fried chickpeas or tofu, and some combination of vegetables.

Sounds delicious to be fair!

I’m pretty sure I ate chicken sandwiches at sixth form from the cheapo sandwich shop over 20 years ago …and avocado wraps from Pret not long after

These sandwich fillings are not new.

What a ridiculous article!

Apple and smoked Gouda with arugula , on crusty bread , is just the thing

I absolutely bloody love avocado but I think they're pretty bad for the environment so not sure why they would count as "woke"?!

Bloody daily mail spouting shit as usual...

It's been like that for a while. It's a right wing word used to express contempt for anything.

The woke sandwich is chicken!

Ringpeace · 21/11/2024 00:21

Or more specifically anything the Daily Mail don't like.

Which is a lot of things.

ODFOx · 21/11/2024 00:21

Avocado sandwiches aren't woke. They're hipster 🤣🤣🤣.
