I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

A post like this on MN used to raise the roof. Then people with a sense of humour failure all joined and started using melodramatic words and be professionally offended.

OP the coat is rank. YANBU

Bambooshoot · 20/11/2024 17:42

It’s hideous! Burn it, burn it with fire - and dance around the flames while it turns to ashes, rejoicing in its demise. It’s the only correct response to such a horrifically ugly piece of clothing.

Alternatively, maybe try and hide it under a laundry pile or in a box somewhere - but do note, it’s probably sentient, and will crawl out and take its revenge, no doubt by giving you a lecture on wrongthink, and repeating all the inane virtue signalling posts on the rest of this thread, in its raspy, sheepskin, leathery voice . . .

historyismything82 · 20/11/2024 17:40

Did he get it from a mush in Shepherds Bush?

malificent7 · 20/11/2024 17:35

Looks lovely, snuggly and warm to me!

Bloody hell some people on this thread have had a sense of humour bypass! I would give to my dogs to sleep on then blame them for stealing it, lol. With luck they’d rip it ..

That sounds hilarious.

ItGhoul · 20/11/2024 17:33

I wouldn't make any of my partner's clothes 'mysteriously disappear'. It's a horrible thing to do. I might gently suggest he replaced it with a nicer coat but if he liked it, so be it. If my partner threw out anything of mine just because he didn't like it, I would be absolutely livid.

These coats are quite trendy this year actually

'Allo 'allo

InSpainTheRain · 20/11/2024 17:26

Honestly? No it looks fine to me! Sorry OP. I thought it was going to be holey and filthy, but seems fine

Notsuchafattynow · 20/11/2024 17:25

OMG you don't even need to ask.

Bin it.

gettingolderbutcooler · 20/11/2024 17:23

Does your partner have a mullet? If so, it's his perfect coat and you should let him wear it with pride.

I did actually help an almost identical coat disappear from DH's wardrobe. But to be fair, it wasn't his, it was his father's. DFiL is about a foot shorter than DH so the coat didn't fit him and never would. When I asked if I could take it to the charity shop he said no, because it had belonged to his dad. His dad is still alive and well and DH can rarely be arsed to drive and visit him now he's old, so I didn't feel sentimentality over his old car coat deserved wardrobe space.

I agree with a pp, what a horrible thing to do. I would go nuclear if my husband threw away something that belonged to my dad, and would clearly have sentimental value. But he would never do this because he's not controlling and abusive.

YOU didn't feel sentimental about it because it wasn't yours. Hmm

Seriously, what a shitty thing to do!

Angrymum22 · 20/11/2024 17:20

I would frequently try and make DH’s old clothes disappear. Not always because they were of dubious taste but because he stopped wearing them. He would explain that he was keeping them for DS. I would explain that DS was unlikely to want to wear his dad’s old cast offs.
Guess what, DS frequently raids his dad’s hoard of vintage Adidas and Nike ( DH played a lot of sport) and it has saved me a lot of money. DS recently went shopping after starting uni and shopped exclusively in a vintage clothes shop. He is the envy of many friends who frequently borrow his “cool” clothes. So I was wrong. I haven’t told DS that there are probably even more clothes in the loft but since I need to start clearing it out next year I may let him loose up there over Christmas.
I could see my DS loving your DH’s jacket.
It’s defo something he would wear. Maybe put it on Vinted to see if it attracts any buyers.

peachgreen · 20/11/2024 17:19

Buy him the matching tweed cap, gold chain and signet ring for Christmas...

I quite like it

“Giving driving instructor” 😂 💀

That made me cringe too. 😂 Sounds ridiculous! 😆

Alltheunreadbooks · 20/11/2024 17:16

Some very concerning, casually trotted out controlling behaviour in this thread.

Obviously this happens quite regularly in a lot of posters lives, deciding what their partner can wear and hiding stuff they don't like.

PlacidPenelope · 20/11/2024 17:15

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 16:45

@PlacidPenelope No wears it with normal clothes of now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aaah! Oh dear!

Maybe you could search from some 1970's/80's items to go with it then he could rock the whole ensemble😁

We have The Great Chelsea Boot Saga in this house. Said Chelsea Boots which no longer fit and were fecking awful mysteriously disappeared during a house move and I have never been allowed to forget it!

FictionalCharacter · 20/11/2024 16:15

That isn’t a donkey jacket (yes I know that isn’t the point of the thread 😁)

That was my main thought as well.

Wtf. You got rid of something your husband specifically said he wanted to keep because it belonged to his dad??

you just decided his sentiments didn’t count!

Tina159 · 20/11/2024 17:12

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/11/2024 16:44

Just show him this and say, "I think that dog has exactly the same jacket as you."

Then he may stop wearing it...

If he looks half as cute as this then YABVVVVVU OP.

TBF it looks cosy and I'd probably wear it. I do admit to having left some of DH's clothes at the bottom of the wash basket so he can't wear them though. If he wants them that much he can wash them himself.

Westofeasttoday · 20/11/2024 17:12

No. Just get over it.

Honestly how would you feel if he did this to your favourite coat that he hated.

Bubblemonkey · 20/11/2024 17:11

People would be screaming abuse if someone’s husband was posting this….

WonderingWanda · 20/11/2024 17:11

It's hard to answer because my dh is way more stylish than me and this is so far from anything he would ever wear. He has never baulked at anything I've worn and I have terrible judgement so would have to bit my tongue if I hated it.
