To find a lost wallet and keep the money inside

Today I found a wallet on the floor in ASDA. A decent leather, heavy wallet with credit cards inside etc. I quickly handed it into a security guard who then handed it into customer services. Told DH and he asked if I kept the money inside? He was half joking but said that he would keep the cash as a “finders fee” and that it served the boomer right for dropping their wallet (it was a wallet of an older man)

Tried to talk to him, would he really keep the money he found and he would! Although he then accused me of starting a fight.

Have you filed for divorce yet? 🤔
Sorry, I thought that was the stock MN reply...

SprinkleCake · 21/11/2024 19:49

This is awful. Did he not stop to think that the in his wallet could be all they have for their food shopping?

WildCats24 · 21/11/2024 19:45

He just gets more and more attractive the more you drip feed us, OP.

ElizaJ74 · 21/11/2024 19:12

That's a disgraceful attitude to have.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 21/11/2024 18:33

Ok but what are you getting out of repeating it all here? It's not like it's going to change anything.

Yes, am wondering that. Don't understand why OP is remotely surprised that her husband has sticky fingered tendencies in light of her revelations about his general personality.

You can leave a marriage for ANY reason, OP. Don't have to justify it to anyone. But in this particular case, he's such a nasty bastard the only wonder is why you'd stay.

toxic44 · 21/11/2024 19:07

What a cheap thief he is! I pity you having to live with him and his guttersnipe attitude. What an example for your children, too. And so free with his insults - boomer, indeed. He'll be a little pup himself one day.

AnnieSnap · 21/11/2024 19:02

Wow! That’s a horrible attitude your husband has 😡

TPJB · 21/11/2024 19:01

My daughter found a wallet on the train yesterday. Saw it belonged to a German guy probably on his way to the airport. She has already posted it off to the address on the ID card in it. She could have just handed it in. Your husband sounds a really unpleasant person. Not sure how you can stay with such a knob.

Havinganamechange · 21/11/2024 18:33

There are some disgusting vile people around, sounds like you married one OP.

FindersKeepers1 · 21/11/2024 18:28

Not theft related but there’s so much other stuff that’s inappropriate- he has terrible road rage and the names he calls people in front of the children are vile- for example - “move you fat b!£ch” “Get out of the way Ugly C?!t” and racist comments such as ching-Chong(I’m so sorry if this offends anyone)

A lot of his comments are directed at women and Women’s weight - “get your fat gut out of the road” etc. It’s like he says the most shocking stuff possible (not to peoples face)

I don’t drive so his answer is I can’t tell him what to do in his own car and I have no clue as I’ve never been in that position. He speaks about women like some are not even human calling them “It” or “thing” or “cretin”

Sorry, hugely off topic I know but it’s like he says the most inflammatory/most offensive thing possible to get a reaction from me.

Don’t keep it. Be a nice person and hand it in. Many folk can’t afford anything these days and that money is all they have for a shop.

JAT49 · 21/11/2024 18:08

What an evil way of thinking.

If I find anything these days I notify the premises & leave my phone number for when the person comes looking for it … years back I found a piece of jewellery on the floor in a restaurant. And I just didn’t want to hand it over to the waitress or manager. I wanted it to be returned to its rightful owner … and it was. By me.

Sunnings · 21/11/2024 17:51

OP, everything in this thread and your ear pod one, point to your husband being absolute scum, the real dregs of society, determined that his son be the same.

Why on earth are you surprised at anything he says that shows him to be consistently scummy in his behaviour?

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 21/11/2024 17:39

Oh wow.

I lost my purse last year, someone found it and used my card for several contactless services. Luckily nationwide were amazing and funded it back. I had to phone the police, replace licence etc it was a pain. Even more devastating if it was cash taken too.

I would question his morals and trust tbh if that's his attitude.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 21/11/2024 17:34

I think we've established that he's morally bankrupt. Why are you asking him about it again? He's not going to suddenly be a different person.

FindersKeepers1 · 21/11/2024 17:32

So I spoke to DH again today. We were in a cafe and I asked him, hypothetically, if we were the only ones in here and the staff were nowhere to be seen - if we found a wallet on the table with money in it and ID - would he take the money?

He said again - not if the person was next to him. I asked him - would he take the money? He said he couldn’t possibly answer that until he was in that position himself. I couldn’t pin him down - he said he would like to think he would hand it in or put it in a post box but couldn’t possibly predict what he would do in the moment?

Surely something like that needs no thought?

Thats just so wrong.

No morals at all.

sesquipedalian · 21/11/2024 07:58

@ Daniela Dressen Absolutely. You never know the situation of the person who has lost the money. Do as you would be done by. My daughter when a teenager once found a wallet on the street - we found the contact details of the person it belonged to, and he came to pick it up, and gave my daughter a tenner for her trouble, which I thought was very nice of him.

DanielaDressen · 21/11/2024 07:35

Back in the early 90s I found £80 blowing about on the street, I was 17yo. I took it to the police station and it was claimed that day. It was an elderly man who had withdrew his pension and was beside himself apparently due to thinking he wouldn't be able to buy food that week, pay his rent. I am so glad I handed it in.

Tink3rbell30 · 20/11/2024 14:36

Didn't Argos show you the cameras?! It would have been on them. That's awful, scumbags

No, they didn’t. But this was 1998.

mamechange · 21/11/2024 06:17

When I was about 19yo I went to buy something at a deli and realised my feet felt wrong. I looked down and I was standing on so much money . I picked it all up and said to the guy who was serving me , someone must have dropped this, maybe I should take it to the police and he said no,no they will be back for it.
I am actually an intelligent person supposedly. That money went straight in that guys pocket for sure. It would have been thousands ( and this was in the late 80's). Banged my head against the train window all the way home . Dude didn't even ask for my name or phone number. Stooooopid.
I could never have taken it though. I just should have taken it to the police like I first thought. Sorry to whoever it was that it belonged to.

Copperoliverbear · 21/11/2024 06:04

I would not keep cash from a wallet or purse 100% no, if I found cash alone on the floor.
