Increasingly worried about attack from Russia.

AIBU and it's just media scare mongering?

@IhateHPSDeaneCnt I am sure it was a light hearted post which was not meant to cause any intended offence. Sadly the world seems to be ruled by mad, war thirsty men . I worry for my children most of all .

RedRosie · 20/11/2024 10:04

It doesn't seem likely to me, not really. Russia isn't going to attack NATO countries. They also aren't going to attack Ukraine with nuclear weapons ... Much too close to home, too dangerous for their own people.

Poor Ukraine. The upcoming (less than supportive) US administration must be such a worry for them. I hope that Europe stands firm against Putin and that we can all remember that Russian people are not the enemy, only their leadership.

thingymijigi · 20/11/2024 09:35

thestudio · 20/11/2024 00:39

And... all the appeasers (aka @thingymijigi's 'diplomatic solution') enabled Hitler to get pretty close to taking over the whole of Europe. It was America who were the nick-of-time cavalry then; this time.. well.

@thestudio What. Does that mean you're suggesting no attempts to resolve the conflict should be made?

There's always someone waving their willy. 80 years ago, it was Hitler, 40 years ago, it was the IRA, 20 years ago, it was Bin Liner, now it's Mad Vlad. In 2044, it will be some other megalomaniac.

Remember this: Putin cries when he opens the biscuit tin at the Kremlin and discovers Medvedev has eaten all the chocolate hobnobs.

This post is in very bad taste.

We all know what Hitler did.

Calling it willy waving is irresponsible minimising.

Cattery · 20/11/2024 09:20

If Putin’s aim is world domination there doesn’t seem much point in obliterating it. Be nothing left to dominate. That’s how I see it

There’s no point in worrying about it either way. Is anyone starts chucking nukes about we are all toast guaranteed and not much you can do about that. The more likely outcome is more underhanded stuff like cables being cut, leaders dying under weird circumstances, toilet roll panics etc

Really no need to worry of direct attack.

There will be a continuation of the hybrid doctrine though.

Offence too
we don't need to take offence to absolutely anything
o thought it was well said

Really? Saying that Hitler was just ‘willy waving’ (ugh) and Bin Laden too. WW2? 9/11?

Piss off.

Sampler · 20/11/2024 08:41

Biden is still the president of the USA and not a ‘caretaker’ @TheHardestWalk

Tina159 · 20/11/2024 08:30

Who exactly do you think he's going to attack? The UK? The US? Finland? If he was going to attack even Finland he'd have got in there before they joined NATO like he did with Ukraine. He hasn't had any real kind of victory in Ukraine yet and that's been going on 3 years, why would he start spreading himself more thinly? He doesn't want Europe and he doesn't want a war with Europe, he just wants to hark back to the glory days of the USSR and show The West that they can't just take over the whole world.

peepsquick · 20/11/2024 08:25

@Bubblesoffun plans sure, but not the ability. 1000 plus days and he's not even secured the country next door, I don't think we as an island nation in NATO have too much to be worried about in terms of invasion.

Bubblesoffun · 20/11/2024 08:23

1002 days ago people on here were saying Russia would never invade Ukraine and it was just “Willy Waving” yet here we are 1001 days later. I think people naive to think Putin doesn’t have bigger plans than just Ukraine.

peepsquick · 20/11/2024 08:16

Russia haven't even been able to take Ukraine, how long have they been there now?! Their power is massively overstated, I'm more worried about their cyber influence rather than their quite poor armed forces.

MrsSchrute · 20/11/2024 07:37

pl228 · 19/11/2024 23:46

Either way, you can't do anything about it. It's completely outside your control so it's best not to think about it.

Was coming on to say just this.
We have no idea about the reality of the situation, and even if we did, we can do absolutely nothing about it, so no point worrying.

GreyCarpet · 20/11/2024 07:33

Edingril · 20/11/2024 03:46

OK they attack, and?

Unless ypu breath into a paper bag what is going to help by worrying?

This.

Tbh, I can't see the point in worrying about a war or stockpiling 'a few days food' as was suggested on a thread yesterday.

If it happens, it happens. Worrying about it will.make absolutely no difference to whether it does or not. And, if it doesn't, think of all that mental.energy and time you'll have spent worrying about it.

Agreed. That post really fucking annoyed me. Completely ignorant.
Also the phrase ‘Willy waving’ is very irritating.

Given the horror of WWII, the 20 year long bloody regime of the IRA and the attack on the US by Al Qqaeda, I am not sure your hilarious response is that reassuring.

😆

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 20/11/2024 05:17

p.s I don't see any humour in @RobertaFirmino post - it's beyond ignorant - perhaps you should ask for it to be removed?

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 20/11/2024 05:06

I really don't understand @RobertaFirmino response? how uneducated can you be be to say 'waving his willy' didn't result in WW2: 6 million dead - from just one ethnic group - millions of others killed, years of rationing, targeted bombing of civilians, deplorable treatment of Prisoners of War, loans from the US which the UK have just paid back, Merchant Seamen gambling with their lives to ensure the UK didn't starve and so much more.
