How many people are acceptable to attend a house viewing?

JinoPino · 18/11/2024 20:01

My parents are viewing a house this week and have asked me and my DH to come along too; I kind of feel like 4 people is a lot - especially for a first house viewing.

Coming along on a second viewing feels more appropriate.

Aibu?

@JinoPino then no you shouldn't all go it's a waste of time tbh. We had so many just wanted to look viewings, or the guy who didn't want my house but did want to buy my belongings ( unusual log burner mid century furniture antiques etc)

Edited

Trouble is, they think they're serious and have good intentions but I know what they're like!

I'll tell them to view without us and if they offer/it's accepted then I'll join on a 2nd viewing.

If they are genuinely interested in the house and likely to offer, I’d say it’s fine. Someone else could go and put an offer in the same day, giving you no chance for that second viewing if they needed it. Best to go along

They definitely interested but I think unlikely to offer. Maybe that's why I'm hesitant.

I don't think they'll ever actually move tbh.

If you are serious about the house then 4 is ok.

blushroses6 · 18/11/2024 21:30

I think 4 adults is okay. When my DMs house was up for sale recently an entire family came, 2 parents, 2 children and the grandparents too. They asked to come very last minute so my mum was WFH at the time and the children were allowed to run around chasing the cat.

LoquaciousPineapple · 18/11/2024 21:23

Assuming the estate agent is showing you around, I wouldn't say there was a limit really.

If it's the owner, I'd probably limit it to the people doing the purchasing for a first visit and then you could bring others back for a second one (or maybe one of the purchasers and 1-2 friends/relatives)

HooMoo · 18/11/2024 20:50

4 is fine, we brought my parents along to one of our house viewings once. Was the one we bought!

BeMintBee · 18/11/2024 20:43

4 is fine if it’s a serious viewing.

Driedonion · 18/11/2024 20:39

I wouldn’t have a problem with this at all. If it helps sell the house bring it on!

LakeUtah · 18/11/2024 20:39

When looking at houses we always took my parents. My dad looks out for structural things, damp, blown windows, cracks that I would miss.

we don’t go to be nosey or have a look around. I got better things to do with my time then look at other peoples stuff and
I can’t be bothered with all this second visit stuff so I take them to my first viewing.

Daisys24 · 18/11/2024 20:38

4 is fine. I had 7 and thought that was too much but not that I said anything because I wanted to sell my house.

Birch101 · 18/11/2024 20:37

Considering some houses go quickly I think 4 is fine and if it saves everyone time in the long run then is smart to me.

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 20:36

It also ( imo) depends on are they really looking at it to buy or just a bit of a nosey round? Two very different things
I "sold" my first house three times before actually selling it

TwoShades1 · 18/11/2024 20:34

Anyone who will be living there/financially involved is fine to attend viewing. I think it’s also ok to bring other people it’s a long distance away and you are unlikely to manage more than one viewing.

Trumptonagain · 18/11/2024 20:33

First viewing just the prospective buyers...

If liked then ask for a second viewing to show family members.

Crazymadchickenlady · 18/11/2024 20:31

I think four is fine. We went with three to look at a house for my daughter. It was already empty though and the estate agent took us round (and we bought it)

WonderingAboutThus · 18/11/2024 20:29

Four adults is fine if they're all paying attention to the building.
I think it's seriousness that matters. Are you there to be respectful of their time?

GrandHighPoohbah · 18/11/2024 20:21

Four adults is fine. Probably not more than that, though.

Cherrysoup · 18/11/2024 20:16

If it’s multi-generational, I’d expect everyone who would be living there. Some people take builders, so if you and your Dh are in related fields, it makes sense for both of you to go too.

Tapthisscreen · 18/11/2024 20:09

Who’s showing you round? Not so bad if it’s estate agent.
Could you go with your parents and leave husband at home?

Definitely could do, but we're both wanted! DH is in the property trade and my career/experience is linked so they want both of our opinions.

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 20:09

When selling mine lots of people treated it as a day trip , one viewing brought six ppl and their dog
When the house up the street had an open day there was tonnes of ppl with their whole families ( some including grandparents) again several with dogs who were the pissed off the estate agent wouldn't let them take the dogs in, with the argument 'but we are going to live here"

Marblesbackagain · 18/11/2024 20:09

If it helps make a decision I don't see the issue.
