Have people forgotten about covid and what's really important?

Just this really.

Covid...working or non working parents had to have online teaching at home (for working so much more difficult). Teachers had to do these lessons online while supervising their own kids being taught online.
It showed how many parents found it difficult teaching their own and so sad some suicides of single parents having no escape.

Supermarkets...
In fear of covid but worked through, online delivery went through the roof, all working. A close relative with parent on chemo hadn't got the official document through so had to keep working and go home to a highly vulnerable person. Took several weeks to sort, otherwise woukd have lost job if refused to go in.

NHS, I remember the days just before it was announced and A and E staff having a more than full waiting room of coughing before mandatory mask wearing.

The impact...stay at home, if you could. Celebrities showing off, non essential things like false eyelashes, fake nails, any form of plastic surgery etc stopped.

The world realised what was important. Now it has too easily gone back to the superficiality it was before and people complaining about everything.

Thank you for reading my long post, just needed to put it out there.

I, for one, as a frontline worker and human being, am so disappointed at how so many people have gone back to being so rude and entitled, when they were relying on us at thay time to help them live. X

@TempestTost whhyyy though

mum was saying that the run on soap made her wonder if people didn't wash their hands before, but I wondered if people like me, always rigorous hand washers, had stocked up madly on it!!!

Did the run on toilet paper suggest they hadn't been using that previously either? 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not sure what your point is either.

I wanted the world to go back to the way it was before Covid and I'm really struggling with the fact that it won't. It seems like all the really appalling qualities people showed during Covid are here to stay.

Or in some cases people have quietly become very strange, more due to lockdown, and that has seeped into all areas. I blame lockdowns much more than Covid.

but pre Covid, I was annoyed by lack of handwashing and now that seems to be the one thing that didn't stick! Ffs.

Edited

I disliked the way people couldn’t be arsed to cover their mouths when they cough pre Covid. After a year of coughing ethic being rammed down our throats, you’d think they have got the message and do it now

It was mostly all nonsense and lies.

What the actual f?

Filamumof9 · 17/11/2024 21:10

Where I lived, we had full lockdowns for months, not being allowed to go outside the house, except on designated days for essential shopping only. Everything else was closed so nowhere to go anywhere. As I live secluded, I did not notice too much about it, except for wfh and educating child from home. However, school had set up perfectly, so DC benefited from a quieter surrounding. As we live on an island, we only have 1 hospital and that was reaching its capacity very soon, as capacity was always very limited (think about max 30 persons in the ICU ) so people mostly knew anyone affected by it and hence were more lenient to follow the lock downs. Air travel mostly stopped as well. If I look back at it and compare it with now, most people have been trying to make up for lost time it seems. For my family we actually have stepped a bit away from all obligations in comparison to previously.

Some people were still dicks during Covid. I promised a man in a shop that he’d find out what would happen if he didn’t step back from me. He was so close he was practically touching me. He said he was ok as he was wearing a mask and I told him I didn’t care if he was wearing a f*cking hazmat suit if he didn’t step back I’d make him. People still had no sense of personal space never mind social distancing and it’s gone back to how it was before Covid like it never happened. It really gets on my nerves as I had issues with people being too close to me even before Covid so now I tend to stand in a queue with the pushchair behind me with the baby facing me and me facing him so they can’t get too close. I’m not averse to treading on toes or elbowing hard “accidentally” if people still get to close

Yeah, some people were dicks during and still are after. 🫤

I've read your post a couple of times and honestly can't get the point you're trying to make. You've listed some ways that covid was awful, made a strange point about celebrities and their beauty enhancements, then suggested people realised what was important during Covid and now we've forgotten it. Covid was terrible, we didn't all get personality transplants during that time and change back when it was over

And... what?

Hi Boris 😄

BooBooDoodle · 17/11/2024 19:57

I will always remember walking up the busiest road into town, I walked in the middle of the road and listened to bird song! No cars, hardly anyone out and glorious sunshine. Having my daily hour of exercise. It was bloody wonderful. We made do and once in a routine at home we realised there was more to know about everyone. We became closer, we wfh and had balance and less stress. When the time came for me to go into work for 2 hours a day (work in a school) I got pulled over by the police and had to produce my letter saying I could travel and was travelling to work. Still makes me laugh. Now everything is back to being stressful, busy and just shite again. I quite enjoyed lockdown looking back. None of my family caught anything until we had to go back to work full time either. Only thing I got was a rash from washing my hands too much.

Also that the immunity provided by all those vaccinations is now wearing off.

I had not caught covid before, then finally succumbed in September this year. It floored me.

A week of a high fever, don't really remember much, off food, lost 6lb.
Two weeks of being so tired I did the school run then went back to sleep.
Then two weeks of a hacking cough and generally feeling cold and down.

I'm generally fit & healthy, a runner, eat well etc. I'm almost back to normal now but it has taken NINE weeks.

I don't think Covid has finished with us yet.

and all the people saying "it's like flu"
a couple of years before covid, I had flu. I was in bed for three weeks, until I felt well enough to go downstairs and watch TV on the sofa under a blanket. during the bed time, I was feeling so rotten, there was a time I really needed the toilet, and I genuinely weighed up whether it was worth the pain of walking about ten feet to the toilet, that was in the next room, or whether to pee myself in bed. I literally wondered if lying in my own waste was more or less uncomfortable than a short walk to the toilet.
and then when I DID get better, I would just fall asleep randomly for MONTHS afterwards. I was SO fatigued. so "it's only like flu" is not really a comfort. having flu made me really understand how Flu can be bad enough to be fatal. I have never felt that ill before or since.
Flu is not just a bad cold.
and I'm fortunate to have never had Covid, but I don't want to get it.

changeme4this · 17/11/2024 19:48

IMO people just seem angrier these days…

im not sure where you wanted your post to go, however having just come out of a 5 day stomach bug I spent a lot of time thinking about people no longer staying at home and resting when ill.

I have a lady who comes in on a Friday for a couple of hours to clean the basics. The previous Thursday she called to say she was positive with covid so wouldn’t make it (fair enough) but by Monday her social media story was showing her attending a mini training challenge with teams. Her trainer told her to attend but not tell anyone she was positive! any wonder illness spreads.

Anyhow probably not the gist of your post….

Cyclingmummy1 · 17/11/2024 18:59

The two are completely unrelated.

However, on the basis of the last few months, no one can seriously believe that the current government would have done any better, particularly as you've acknowledged that they were behaving in the same way.

Again, and … ?

CrowleyKitten · 17/11/2024 19:27

what I miss about it is MOST people staying out of your personal space. there aren't less people in the queue if you crowd the person in front of you, silly.
and I can get claustrophobic at the discount shelves when people stand practically touching you and breathing on you. just stand back and wait your turn. that's what I do.

I do like how so many people threw themselves into improving their homes or gardens, or signing up to Duolingo, or learning to be better cooks.

as an introvert, it had a lot going for it. I got back into writing. I used to LOVE writing when I was in school, and it sort of fell away, and the fanfic community was a huge part of what lifted my spirits during that time.

TheBigSalami · 17/11/2024 19:12

I’m pleased to say we didn’t once clap or bang pans.

BestZebbie · 17/11/2024 19:03

Haroldwilson · 17/11/2024 10:02

Well. They were going out risking their lives when other people were at home.

Granted, not getting trenchfoot and being shot at, but a bit of hero status probably made more people willing to stick it out.

Cynically, really leaning into 'hero status' (by introducing banging pans etc) othered the frontline workers as a group, and you generally have to thoroughly 'other' groups of people before everyone else in society will agree to them being killed. I am not convinced it was all entirely for their benefit!

The Tories were the ones in charge. The Tories were the ones who gave us 14 years of austerity, fundamentally making this country so shit.

Iamtoooldforthisshit · 17/11/2024 18:53

I worked in a supermarket during covid and I saw the absolute worst in people and in my opinion they haven't improved. The fact that people could blatantly shop and stand over staff not observing the 2m rule staggered me. There has been no improvement people are still the same selfish a holes they always were.

It was mostly all nonsense and lies

Not if you had a vulnerable loved one. How nasty are you?

Average age of death from Covid was actually higher than average life expectancy. The young and healthy were never at risk. The country was bankrupted for no reason due to cowardly leadership, and we are now all paying the price.

Ewock · 17/11/2024 17:59

theresabluebirdinmyheart · 17/11/2024 15:45

Only stupid people use that irritating phrase. It translates to “I’m not clever enough to argue my point or understand anyone else’s point of view so I’ll use a tired internet phrase and call the person with an opposing viewpoint stupid and make myself feel like I’m the winner.”

🤣 no I use that reply due to having long covid and some days I can't even get out of bed. So using my energy on you is not worth it to me. I have first hand experience of the fact that it isn't all lies.
I'm glad you don't as honestly this has destroyed my life, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

not nasty just stating the truth, but your probably on your 20th booster?

MayNov · 17/11/2024 17:48

The only good thing that came out of it was proving that most of us can work from home and have a better quality of life whilst doing it. The rest was nonsense.
