To think that everyone faces storms in life, but eventually, the sun shines through?

I’ve been thinking a lot about life’s ups and downs and how, no matter how tough things get, there’s often a brighter time that follows. Do you believe that no matter what we go through, things eventually improve, and we find peace or happiness again? I’d love to hear others’ thoughts or experiences - do you feel like there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel?

I think it's typically true for most people that life includes highs and lows which need to be endured. That phrase, If you are walking through hell, keep going is about right. This too shall pass and all that jazz.

Itcc · 16/11/2024 17:01

Sometimes there isn’t light at the end of the tunnel.

SoWhat21 · 16/11/2024 17:00

I remember a few years ago a Facebook post from a young woman (18 yo) whose cancer had returned. Some had posted in a comment ‘everything will be ok in the end, if it isn’t ok then it isn’t the end’ I thought that was a horrendously patronising and glib thing to post. This woman could well die and that would be the end and it certainly would not be ok.

Vintagevixen · 16/11/2024 16:59

No, sorry, don't think that's necessarily so. I think we're sold that by movies, books etc but more often it's just more shit times ahead.

I keep waiting for the universe to give me a break after a horrendous divorce etc but it never dies. I'm kind of resigned to it now and just waiting for the next thing to happen.

Well the research suggests that chronic stress leads to worse physical and mental health which in turns causes more storms. So I'd say no sadly. There can be growth and insight and compassion but not necessarily sunny days ahead.

MakingPlans2025 · 16/11/2024 16:58

Not if you live on the Gaza strip, no, for example.

Grapewrath · 16/11/2024 16:57

I dint like to say that life always gets better as it feels really patronising to people who’s had a really rough hand. That said I too haven’t had things easy and that’s unlikely to resolve however I try and find happiness in the small things and know that some people have it worse than me.
I know people with far fewer problems than me living a much more miserable life.. and that’s because they have a negative and pessimistic approach. Mindset goes a long way.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/11/2024 16:57

No of course not.
If I hear some anecdote like this, I think of people crossing oceans in small boats and not making it.
no universe intervention or it will be okay in the end.

BCBird · 16/11/2024 16:56

Think this is a good thought to.hang onto. Would be nice if it was true

PenguinIce · 16/11/2024 16:56

All you have to do is turn on the news and there is normally at least one story of someone who has had a horrific life often followed by death. I admire you op that you can be so optimistic, I wish I could be.

SoWhat21 · 16/11/2024 16:55

Mostly but not always. I do find the pressure for incessant optimism to be a bit insensitive. The point is there are people in desperate situations with terminal diagnoses, children who have died, living in extreme poverty or dangerous places (eg Gaza). Sometimes these people may find chinks of light but for a lot there will never be better days, recovery, or improvement. Insistence that everything will be ok in end usually comes from a place of privilege.

CarrotPencil · 16/11/2024 16:54

Nah a lot of people die long and horrible deaths - doesn’t get better for them, for example.

Some people live on the streets for decades and then die, for another example.

Boomer55 · 16/11/2024 16:53

Well. It always has for me. But after DH dying last year, it’s been a long time shining. 🤷‍♀️

Daschund · 16/11/2024 16:53

No. I have a life limiting condition. That's not getting better for me or my family and friends.

Pandasnacks · 16/11/2024 16:53

Well no, it's literally just not always true. What about those who get/their spouse or child gets a terminal or life limiting illness, it doesn't always get better does it?

Kneebonefuture · 16/11/2024 16:53

No. Like Travis said- there's a tunnel at the end of all these lights

MatildaTheCat · 16/11/2024 16:52

Usually probably but some people are extremely unlucky and there are some situations that you may never recover from.

I’m quite an optimist so tend to look for the bright side in most situations but others are naturally pessimistic and find it much more difficult.

Dearg · 16/11/2024 16:51

I am generally a positive and optimistic person, but no, I cannot agree that there is always light at the end of the tunnel . I think, if you are lucky, you can come to terms with some of the downs , and that may be the best you can do.

CoffeeINeedCoffee · 16/11/2024 16:51

Nope, I do not agree with you OP. It's not all rosy after the storm has passed. 🫤

EmpressaurusKitty · 16/11/2024 16:50

It’s always possible that the light at the end of the tunnel is a train.
