Communal toilet - windows open or closed?

A colleague who opens the building up every morning opens up all the toilet windows wide open, all year round and closes all the doors. In winter, by the time you get to the loo mid morning it is absolutely freezingly unpleasant to take off your bottoms and sit on the very cold loo seat.

The toilet and sink is in one room with one window behind the loo.

When I go in to use the loo I close the window to, not completely shut, but it’s less drafty and wide open. The colleague goes in during the day and opens it wide again.

We have asked colleague not to open the window so wide but they say they don’t like germs or toilet smells so it needs airing out.

who is being unreasonable?

You need to get one of these ...

But do be discreet when wadlling off to the loo.
(I put mine on a big blue IKea bag, after filling it up in tbe kitchen from the kettle))

Glad ours don’t open. Granted you get the smells, but you don’t get the cold bum! Window open slightly in the morning. People in an office need to learn to compromise. She wants the windows wide open all day, you don’t. Can you see what others think and come to a compromise?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 15/11/2024 19:51

Open the window if it smells. Close the window if it's cold and no longer smells.

TotHappy · 15/11/2024 19:50

No lingering germs because you've opened the window? Bloody hell, I wish it was that easy!

BleekHaus · 15/11/2024 19:45

I’m not sure you can blow germs away by opening a window. Fair point on the smells though.

TheNinthLock · 15/11/2024 19:41

Open. No poo smells or lingering germs.
Fresh air, always!

Icanttakethisanymore · 15/11/2024 19:40

I’d rather have a cold fresh toilet than a warm smelly one I’m afraid.

Just hover?

The same used to happen where I worked. There was a perfectly good extractor fan which came on when anyone entered the toilet (desperately trying to avoid the phrase “motion detector”) but every day the window would be repeatedly opened wide. Just keep closing it.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 15/11/2024 10:18

Extractor fan surely?

bloodredfeaturewall · 15/11/2024 10:15

keep closing the window

and ask for an extractor fan to be installed

bet she vapes in the loo snd doesn't want to get caught

Ablondiebutagoody · 15/11/2024 10:15

Open. I don't want to smell your stools

marshmallowfinder · 15/11/2024 10:10

Plenty of fresh air would be my preference. But I would be content with them half open, for sure.

LlynTegid · 15/11/2024 10:10

Open yes, not open wide.

One of the benefits of the days I work from home is not having to use a bathroom and toilet shared with work colleagues.
