"chest feeding" men should not be put above women and babies by La Leche League. Reasonable?

GenerativeAIBot · 14/11/2024 16:40

How many women will self exclude based on this outcome? How many children will suffer because of it? Anything more than zero is unacceptable

This is the direct and foreseeable outcome of ever allowing the word woman to be mutable. This is the ultimate outcome of all these progressive policies, generally well meaning, with terrible outcomes

Identity politics should be dead and we need to bury it.

If transmen don't have breasts, how are they feeding babies?

I guess they can if they haven't had a mastectomy.

This term is intended to be inclusive for transmen and not transwomen. I’m pretty sure that any transwoman who decided to breastfeed would not have a problem calling it breastfeeding and in fact would not want to call it chestfeeding instead.

The policies might be inclusive of both transmen and transwomen. But this thread was specifically about the term chestfeeding and that is inclusive for transmen, not transwomen.

The term "breastfeeding" is inclusive of anyone who is using their breasts to feed a baby.

Thevelvelletes · 14/11/2024 19:37

It wasn't long ago that breastfeeding in public was viewed as something abhorrent (very wrong obviously).
How the hell have we arrived at the point men can breast feed.. society is fucked.

It gets worse. Women who discuss it online in Australia can be told they have broken the law. Because a male centred experience (there is no proven robust study done on these secretions to show they are safe in the long term) must only be celebrated apparently.

They've lost it down under.

It's particularly awful given the low breastfeeding rates. It's something that is really hard for many mothers and this is just one more barrier to something which should be made easier.

Exactly. It's already something that many women need support with. I can't believe LLL are abandoning all women who don't want men to watch them feed either.

I really don’t get it. Surely this is child abuse??

Apparently not to trans and their enablers.

To sane people it's child abuse.

You'd think wouldn't you?

But no, the 'most oppressed' have found their way to be applauded for their fetish.

And we're just bigots for objecting to it.

Encouraging a baby to suck the chemically induced secretions from a man’s nipple is so obviously child abuse that I have no words for the fact it is not just permitted but encouraged.

has everyone lost their fucking minds?

True, but in fact just about unheard of in the real world! It may be theoretically possible (but not really successful) in a research setting, but in practice it's much more relevant (and successful) in working people up into a froth of outrage!

Transmen chestfeeding is what the policy is really about.

If the policy were about trans men breastfeeding, nobody would be resigning over it.

How disgusting that male desires are being prioritised over the wellbeing of BABIES. FFS. It's child abuse.

I miss the days when people kept their squalid little fetishes behind closed doors. Good times.

Amen!

Because “be kind” I believe.

and because humans really can change sex.

and because being male or female is more sort of a feeling, than cold hard facts….

For a second, I thought you were being serious with this tripe!

GenerativeAIBot · 14/11/2024 18:43

Hufflemuff · 14/11/2024 18:29

Exactly this!! You're gonna go through all that trauma in your life, be brave enough to come out as Trans... but the word breastfeeding will send you over the edge? Absolutely not!

How many trans people even agree/care about this change of wording? I'm sure they aren't even fussed about it and the ones that are... well. I'll leave that unsaid.

Affirming trans feels is more important than any women you filthy bigot.

Yeah, but they're being kind to men, which is what's important, eh?

Pandering to men is not being kind, especially when babies are involved. Giving Savile a key to the children's ward wasn't being kind. That's just the way it's packaged.

username358 · 14/11/2024 18:35

FranticHare · 14/11/2024 18:22

But the women don’t count, the babies can’t say anything, and most staff are women too. They don’t count.

But you must Be Kind to the mens! They’re the ones that count!

Exactly. It's pandering to men, not being kind. It's facilitating fetishists at the expense of everyone else.

ShinyOtter · 14/11/2024 18:33

Even the phrase chestfeeding gives me the rage. It's so twee.

Mmm don't be so sure....

https://llli.org/breastfeeding-info/transgender-non-binary-parents/

From that page

Trans women can use a protocol similar to adoptive and other non-gestational mothers and stimulate their milk supply: it is called the Newman-Goldfarb protocol. You can read more here and here. A number of different protocols are described here. Our article about Breastfeeding Without Giving Birth may also be useful. Transfeminine nursing parents may also need to take the hormone spironolactone to suppress their testosterone. Read a case report of induced lactation in a transgender woman here.

"Hello... social services....yes I'd like to make a complaint please."

WHAT ON EARTH.

Gatecrashermum · 14/11/2024 17:21

I had assumed it was this

I am generally very inclusive and trans-positive but I find "chest-feeding" a step too far.

How many trans men will actually be using this service? It must be an absolutely tiny number. Seems silly to change all language to accommodate such a tiny minority

I think it must be incredibly hard bearing a child as a trans man, and probably extremely distressing. I'd imagine going to a class that called it "breastfeeding" would be the least of their worries

Exactly this!! You're gonna go through all that trauma in your life, be brave enough to come out as Trans... but the word breastfeeding will send you over the edge? Absolutely not!

But they're not being kind to women and they're not being kind to babies and they're not being kind to staff who object. So that can't be the answer.

Yeah, but they're being kind to men, which is what's important, eh?

In plain sight.
Endorsed by activists.
Abusive to babies.
