Heard the one about Racist Dogs in Wales

Horrace · 14/11/2024 13:11

Been trying to copy links from the Telegraph and various other news outlets but failing miserably with my phone so any help much appreciated.

Anyway, it seems the Welsh Labour government are trying to create dog free zones to make Wales less racist or something along those lines.
The more I read it, the less sense it makes. Not that it made any sense to begin with.
Any Welsh mumsnetters with racist dogs?
Could you send your dog on a course to be less racist like we have to in our places of work.

If they want to diversify the Welsh countryside, start with the sheep.

CurlewKate · 14/11/2024 15:22

A small group of activists made this suggestion, among others, to the Welsh government. There is no suggestion that it is going to be taken further. Check your sources!

MrsNotquiteAverage · 14/11/2024 15:14

The first report on this topic said 'The countryside is racist' we must change it blah blah

I would have expected the said paper/tabloid to be complaining about Welsh names being adopted such as Eryri for the area around Llanberis.

What does that have to do with Welsh Labour and their bonkers idea that dog free areas will make Wales racist free by 2030

This is the Daily Fail stirring up needless antagonism. The report was looking at ways to make outdoor spaces more inclusive. A woman stated that she didn't like dogs and didn't feel safe around dogs. Lots of people feel like this and would welcome dog-free areas (these already exist by the way - lots of places have dog-free beaches or dog-free parks).

Daily mail is implying that the woman not liking dogs is due to her race, rather than her personal preferences regarding dogs. What a ridiculous article. Can a black woman not have an opinion? She answered a question about what she didn't like about public spaces. "I don't like dogs" is not the same as "on behalf of all black people everywhere, we don't like dogs and want them banned from the Welsh hillsides"!

You need to read the article. It's the Welsh government suggesting this to make the countryside less racist. Not the Daily Mail

Perhaps they should advise we have equal numbers of black and white sheep for you know... equality. Liberal wankery!

I get this when Amazon deliver now - I get a text asking me to secure my dogs (they always are, they are spaniels and not in the least bit dangerous), but it is always asian delivery guys.

Asking for dogs to be secured is a reasonable request whoever the delivery person happens to be.

In deed. And as a responsible dog owner, I never bring my dogs to the door for any delivery person - so they always are secured.

And it’s only the Asian drivers who make the request and who I have to reassure when I open the door that they are not there as they hover 6-10m down the drive and refuse to come to my door to make their delivery. Most of the other drivers, when I mentioned that we have secured any dogs they may have heard barking, simply ask what breed I have, mentioned that they love dogs and would have happily met them.

My dog is Welsh and can be a bit breedist. She is not a fan of a chihuahua.

Understandable, the average chihuahua is fundamentally the densest concentration of pure evil in the known universe.

Horrace · 14/11/2024 14:40

@Nellieinthebarn

Well said.
It is virtue signalling.
I am sure the Welsh government is run by adults so why they can't use common sense and honesty is beyond me.

That’s… actually hysterically stupid. Dogs are racist now, are they? Come to think of it, I did know a golden retriever who did not like black people 🤔🤣

Nellieinthebarn · 14/11/2024 14:34

No matter what the motivation behind in creating dog free outdoor spaces, (fair enough, some parks and gardens have always been 'No Dogs') linking this to racism is going to lead to more resentment and islamophobia.

The right are going to use this as an example of 'two tier society', and racism against the white population and indigenous culture. They will be taking their dogs into the prohibited zone as an act of rebellion.

The left are going to kick off at the perceived insulting behaviour of the right towards minorities. Conflict will ensue, the police will have their time wasted sorting it out, the courts will be even more swamped.

Half my family (adoptive father’s side) are muslim/Asian and none have dogs. I think most see them as frightening, feral or harbingers of dirt - which in their country of origin (or rather that of their parents as they are all British Asians) I can understand. It is very clear that people from other cultures do not appreciate dogs the way we Brits/Europeans do. I hate to say they are wrong and that we shouldn’t show some understanding, especially when we have bully XL stories in the news every day and people unfamiliar with dogs have no idea whether which are the more dangerous dogs. That said, my white, Midlands MiL with her OCD and anxieties has always feared dogs, and though she has come around to ours because we have taken care to socialise them properly and segregate them when she first met them, she has never expected the world to adjust to her phobia/dislike of them.

I guess the solution is to have dog free areas and dogs welcome areas, perhaps extending that to kid-free and kid friendly too!

I get that text from one or two specific drivers every time. They also send them to neighbours who don't have dogs (we don't either now, we lost ours recently).

It's a standard Amazon text message that drivers have the option to send once they get close to your location. They send it so that if you're in you're ready to answer the door and they can work their rounds faster, or make up time if they're running behind. They don't know (or care) whether you have a dog or not. If it's the Asian guys with you, it's because they're the ones working their rounds the fastest. With us it's one Polish woman driver and one Eastern European male driver that always do it.

Agapornis · 14/11/2024 14:27

Fwiw they're consulting on the creation of dog free zones in Tower Hamlets too. There are a lot of antisocial dog owners who leave shit everywhere - it's mostly aimed at them. Easier to ban dogs altogether than do some consistent enforcement 🙄 It's billed as a dog-control public spaces protection order (PSPO).

Hold on a minute!

Why are we bringing Islam into this?

"one black African female stated that she feels unsafe with the presence of dogs"

At no point does it state anywhere in the article that the African woman feels Wales is a racist country because dogs are allowed to roam freely in green spaces.

At no point does it state anywhere in the article that the African woman feels that creating dog free areas is fundamental to her ability to access green spaces, nor that it would reduce racism.

This is the Welsh Government's take, so haw you managed to get form A to B whilst going via Z is breathtaking!

I think this might be my fault. I asked if it was due to that because it was the only possible reason I could think of, and the first story I looked at made no mention of the African woman.

the total opposite of cultural integration then

unless it’s brits integrating into an Islamic society which seems to be the general direction of travel

This is just an anti Welsh article disguised as real news.
They do it a lot in the DM/Telegraph ... misleading headlines and articles where the real message is "look how silly the Welsh are, much better if they were back under English control"

Does it matter.
The point is, it is silly.

What's happening at Boots? I've clearly missed something. I know they're closing stores.

Some racists are having a big strop because the main ‘star’ in the xmas advert is Adjoa Andoh and because the advert also says women generally are the magic of christmas because they’re generally the ones making it happen.

KimberleyClark · 14/11/2024 13:54

So the Welsh government has been advised to do this. They’re not necessarily going to.
