To want to know why dog owners won't yank their dogs out of humans' way

OptimismvsRealism · 14/11/2024 08:38

Just expect humans walking along the pavement to wait while they please themselves/ trip you up

Aren't they worried the dog will get kicked even if they selfishly don't care about other people at all??

I am not "yanking" my dog anywhere thank you.

What a mad bastard thing to say. Geez.

Marblesbackagain · 14/11/2024 09:07

Your post is horrible. Nobody should yank any animal ever.

If I ever did see anyone raise their foot to a defenceless creature I would report, record post, share virally. And then put my sturdy brolly to good use on them.

Anyone kicks my dog I put them in hospital!

Cf another current thread claiming pet owners are sweet, well-adjusted individuals, and non-pet-owners are ‘cold’, possibly psychotic miserabilists.

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/11/2024 09:01

I suspect they just don’t think. I did (accidentally) kick a very small dog whilst running a couple of years ago when it came chasing my ankles from behind me, and I’ve seen a dog badly injured by a bicycle because the owner had it on a long trailing leash and couldn’t get it out of the way in time.

Although I would never kick one and take great effort to move around them and also don't agree with them being yanked. it's ultimately a shared space and I to am getting increasingly annoyed by:
dog manspreading: (yup usually a bloke) with two or more dogs clipped to thier waste on medium leads while they strut down the middle taking up the whole path with no plan to move over even a little for other path users.

The dog leading the owner: the dog sniffing left and right verges on the lead and the owner being pulled along by the dog without any care for any approaching pedestrians/bikes/other dogs.

As above but human is also reading phone. Completely self absorbed.

What is it with the bizarre threads about dogs recently?

I mean what a mad bastard thing to say.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

SensibleSigma · 14/11/2024 08:53

If you want to kick an animal because it’s lumbered with an owner who can’t look ahead and calculate how to keep the dog out of your way, that’s entirely on you.

You realise other people don’t know what is in your head and aren’t able to preemptively avoid you?

LeroyJenkinssss · 14/11/2024 08:50

where do you live?! Do you spend most of your life at low level anger or irritation?

I have never known anyone kick anyone’s dog on the pavement, no one’s barrelling through, and generally people and dogs rub along perfectly fine without all this perceived aggro.

OptimismvsRealism · 14/11/2024 08:49

Why would you be PROUD of that? I would obviously kick it if it did so who would win? Why wouldn't you just have some basic thoughtfulness?

I mean what a mad bastard thing to say.

It's not a dog hating thread though is it - it's a useless owners hating thread.

redboxer321 · 14/11/2024 08:47

@OptimismvsRealism I would most proud if my dog mistook your shoes for a piece of grass and pissed all over them. Proper belly laugh that would induce. Not that she would more's the shame.
But this thread has nothing to do with your experiences and everything to do with starting yet another dog-hating thread on MN.

Why don’t people yank their kids out the way? Taking up all the room. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh thank god, at last, it’s been at least 3 minutes since we had a new dog hating thread 🙄.'

Agreed. Some people must really have to much time on their hands and no life to speak of to be that obsessed about dogs and dog owners...

Anisty · 14/11/2024 08:46

Yank is not a great thing to be doing! If a dog feels neck pain every time he sees a human, that's a sure fire way for a dog to become agressive to humans!

But, yes, i keep my dogs on a short lead on pavements anyway, more because i don't want them going onto the road but i certainly do make as much room as possible for passing pedestrians.

Most people do not kick other people's dogs. I have never seen that.

starpatch · 14/11/2024 08:45

I don't have a problem. with dawdling dogs. Where I live there are a lot of aggressive dogs which is much more of a problem.

Because 'yanking' your dog anywhere by its lead is an arsehole thing to do.
Good manners amd good dog training would say if walking on the pavement that you put the dog on the side closest to the wall so your body blocks them from getting trodden on. If you mean people are wandering about with leads stretched out across the pavements and taking up all the space then they are dicks. If you mean you hate dogs so much you think you always have right of way and people should yank them to the side and throw themselves out of your way so you never have to slow down for a moment or take a step to the side then you are a dick.

DanielaDressen · 14/11/2024 08:45

Because I hope my dog will sniff out the dog haters and give them a sharp nip on the ankle as we pass.

pavementgerms · 14/11/2024 08:44

I don't assume most people are cruel enough to kick animals, no. You sound very nasty.

doodleschnoodle · 14/11/2024 08:42

Well I wouldn't 'yank' as that would be painful for the dog.

I keep my dog on a short lead beside me on pavements. No one has ever kicked her. Pavements have lots of obstacles on them: little kids, prams, wheelchairs, elderly people going slow, etc. IME most people live and let live and just adjust around what's going on.

TheFlis · 14/11/2024 08:42

Oh thank god, at last, it’s been at least 3 minutes since we had a new dog hating thread 🙄.

Vissi · 14/11/2024 08:41

Honestly, most humans walking along and paying an average amount of attention to where they are going aren’t going to kick sentient ‘obstacles’ like dogs, dawdling small children, people with mobility difficulties.

HappiestSleeping · 14/11/2024 08:40

You are missing the word "some" in your title. Not all dog owners do this. Some stand out the way with their dogs to let people past.

Also, no decent dog owner would "yank" their dog for any reason. They would move it calmly and gently.
