To want to know why dog owners won't yank their dogs out of humans' way

Just expect humans walking along the pavement to wait while they please themselves/ trip you up

Aren't they worried the dog will get kicked even if they selfishly don't care about other people at all??

Because I hope my dog will sniff out the dog haters and give them a sharp nip on the ankle as we pass.

This is exactly why people do hate dogs and/or their vile owners. Your dog deserves to get kicked if it goes biting passers-by. If a dog nipped my child’s ankle as she sat in her wheelchair you’d deserve to get kicked too you sound despicable.

Perhaps we need a Dog Hating Mumsnetters section then all the usual suspects can spout their vitriol about dogs and their owners on that and those of us who are bored with the never ending dog hating threads can hide it.

The level of hysteria about dogs on here is bizarre and intense. In a 60 year lifetime I've never once encountered it in real life. Where and who are all these ranting people and why are they so very fired up with it?

Terribletooths · 14/11/2024 09:29

I’ve got 2 under 2 and a large dog and I need to take them for a walk so I’m the one struggling so no I won’t move out the way for you. You move. Also I either have double pushchair or toddler on a scooter/ baby carrier and dog on lead.

i will move him gently if he’s displaying bad manners like going towards the person or another dog. Kick my dog and I kick you.

Lolypoly14 · 14/11/2024 09:29

I wouldn’t be yanking my dog anywhere.

My dog is on her lead walking nicely beside me when we’re on pavements. Are you expecting us to dive into a hedge or something to get out of your way? Walk round us?

If the path is narrow, I make her sit to the side to let people pass, but if there’s plenty of room, just keep walking.

Zimunya · 14/11/2024 09:27

You are definitely being unreasonable, OP. Not in the basic premise of your argument, which is that we should all share the pavement in a reasonable and equitable manner, but in the way you talk about treating animals ("yanked", "kicked"). No reasonable human treats an animal like that, or thinks it's appropriate behaviour.

Jifmicroliquid · 14/11/2024 09:27

You don’t yank dogs you nasty person, you gently pull or guide them away with their lead. Why on earth should somebody yank a dog by its neck??

Yes people should keep their dogs out of the way of others, but not in the way you describe.

I am not worried that my dog will be kicked because I imagine that people like you who would take pleasure in hurting an animal are in a minority. If you have urges to hurt animals or people, may I suggest you seek professional help.

Pat888 · 14/11/2024 09:24

Take out shares in a Vet /pharma company and each time a little dog walks by say Kerrrching in your head and smile.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 14/11/2024 09:23

I haven't got a dog but if I saw an owner "yank" their dog out of my way I wouldn't be thinking oh thank you very much for that act of kindness for moving your dog out of my way I would be thinking don't yank your fucking dog like that you bellend. Maybe I'm just really lucky but in my 43 years of being on this earth I can't say I have ever encountered all of these scenarios that other non dog owners seem to have on a daily basis.

Dogs shouldn’t be yanked and if anyone kicked any of my well trained dogs it would most likely result in a hard punch to the teeth for them. You’re welcome.

I actually don’t care if this post upsets anyone, there is absolutely no excuse for animal abuse and if anyone did try to abuse any of my animals it’s my place as an owner to advocate for them.

VegTrug · 14/11/2024 09:22

@OptimismvsRealism You are vile

Dampfnudeln · 14/11/2024 09:21

I walk everyday but don't have a dog. The dog owners i come across generally have their dogs on the wall side of the pavement while the human walks in the middle. On the odd occasion that a dog wanders across my path, I pause, the owner apologises, and I say "no problem". It's a very minor inconvenience. It wouldn't in a million years cross my mind to kick a dog that just happened to get in my way.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/11/2024 09:21

Here's a solution...

...but it might cause a more disturbing problem when they 'toilet' 😳

To want to know why dog owners won't yank their dogs out of humans' way
coffeesaveslives · 14/11/2024 09:18

Would you like to be yanked and pulled about by your neck?

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 14/11/2024 09:16

I’m sorry but this is one stupid post that should never have been allowed. You sound like you think you are something special when going by what you have written you clearly aren’t!

Responsible dog owners stand to the side to let others walk on by so they can have a nice walk with their dog.

Cross the road if it causes you that much of an issue.

A word of warning you need to change your attitude if you think it is ok to be talking about kicking a dog, hypothetically speaking if someone thought they could do that to mine if he doesn’t put that person flat out on the floor then I most certainly would!

After my hubby & kids he is my absolute world.

Don’t try us dog owners if you think it is ok to be kicking out at a dog as that dog has every right to defend itself if it thinks there is a threat to them or their owner.

SweetSixty · 14/11/2024 09:16

The answer is because we've all got a right to be there - dog or human - and most people respect that and are patient and happy to share the walkways with each other or skip around any obstacle and go merrily on their way.

People don't kick old ladies with sholleys, people on crutches, small children on scooters or elderly gentlemen tottering off to pick up their paper, so why should they dogs. Those old ladies, gentlemen and kids don't feel the need to jolt out of the way when someone passes and why should they?

If you're in so much of a rush that obstacles on pavements makes you seethe then the answer is to leave home earlier.

A bigger problem when negotiating the streets is cars parked on pavements, speeding scooters and the hoards of people who seem to go around eyes permanently fixed on phones.

LostTheMarble · 14/11/2024 09:15

You think you have more right as a human (odd phrasing) to the pavement than a dog on a lead? Do you also kick other animals out of the way, cats or pigeons? Have you considered therapy op, you sound rather violently inclined and it’s worrying.

K0OLA1D · 14/11/2024 09:14

Yabu for the use of the word yank.

But we move to the side if possible on pavements or wait out of the way outside shops etc.

cheerfulaf · 14/11/2024 09:14

This might be confusing for you so read slowly, there are quite a few different creatures on the planet, humans, dogs, wildlife, the list goes on. In general most people are considerate of all these creatures and quite happily navigate their way through life without the expectation that these creatures should be “yanked” out of their way

and then there’s people like you, you’re the problem and FYI if you kicked my dog it wouldn’t end well for you 😊

Lovebirdshatecats · 14/11/2024 09:13

All owners are different as are all dogs.

I think most owners are responsible. It's the ones that have aggressive or uncontrolled dogs. The long leads @OptimismvsRealism that trail across a path and get tangled in legs or trip people up are stupid owners rather than dogs.

Balloonhearts · 14/11/2024 09:12

Because I like my dog more than you. HTH.

ProfessorInkling · 14/11/2024 09:11

Bit early for this, isn't it?

Idontjetwashthefucker · 14/11/2024 09:11

What's really pissing me off are the cyclists, round here there are loads on the pavements lately, and they expect me and my well behaved dog to move for them. Is this a thing in other areas?

Lovebirdshatecats · 14/11/2024 09:11

DanielaDressen · 14/11/2024 08:45

Wow. That's awful since he may end up being PTS. Why would you want that?
