Honest opinions ... is a UK 14/16 seen as unattractive for dating as a 50 year old?

I'm online dating for a while. My face is decent and I'd consider myself relatively attractive in the looks stakes but it is my body that men seem to dislike.
As above , I'm that size, 5'7', proportioned except for a wide , flabby meno belly.Im 2.5stone overweight on the scales.
I weight train and walk and run over the week.. so I exercise every day. Look after my appearance/ clothes/ grooming etc but I really believe it's my body that turns them off .
Honestly, especially to men on here, is that size and body type unattractive to you on a woman who is 50?
What are your experiences and more so, what do you find attractive out of interest ?
Thanks.
Lemon

I’m assuming you’re a bloke.

You assume wrong.
I am very much a woman. A size 6 Caucasian one in my 50s
So, according to the last few posters, I don't exist. 🤷‍♀️

Unless he’s talking about a US size 6? Which would be a UK 10-12

He isn’t. UK size 6.

5128gap · 14/11/2024 15:12

I'm a size 6 waist. It's 24/25" and that's the size I am and buy in clothes fitting at the waist (my hips are bigger) I'm white, I'm average height, my BMI is 21 and as far as I'm aware I've got all my organs inside my body where they should be. I think size 14/16 women are attractive to men and are more representative of the population than size 6. But size 6 women are not unicorns or freaks. Just saying.

RubyTuesday10 · 14/11/2024 15:11

By all means focus on your physical health and making the best of what you have, but do it for yourself if it will make you happy, not to make you more ‘worthy’ of a stranger’s approval. I think dating websites encourage us all to be superficial and critical and treat people in quite a disposable way. I think a better way of meeting the right person is by pursuing your interests, joining groups that reflect who you are. Then you are more likely to meet someone more naturally in a less pressured and judgemental scenario than a blind date. There’s no winning age or body type, it’s all about chemistry between two people and it can happen when you least expect it.

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 15:07

I rarely see size 6 on the rails in shops anymore.

Size 8s and to a lesser extent 10s seem to be the ones left unbought too.

WingSlutz · 14/11/2024 15:02

I lost 10kgs before I signed up to OD. I wanted to feel good about myself, and honestly, I wouldn't have fancied a man who was 10kgs overweight either.
I've been with someone for a few months now, we exercise together and it's really a great incentive to stay fit.
So I guess if you're not having any luck and you want to slim down anyway, you've nothing to lose.

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 15:02

They look like size 6’s to me

I find people tend to be bigger sizes than you'd think from looking at them too.

It's his own wife he is talking about. What is creepy about asking your wife their size, weight and BMI? If he was asking people here for theirs, or OLD sites before meeting, creepy for sure. But your own wife? Confused

It is perfectly possible for someone to be a size 6 and above average height for a woman, without being underweight! I really don't understand why so many here find this impossible to grasp. Some people are tall and slim, some people are tall and broad, without either being overweight. And they will have different dress sizes.

I’m assuming you’re a bloke.

It's a fact that size 6 adult women in the UK (of Caucasian origin) are almost non existent.

There are a lot of really really really slim women at the spa I belong too. I spend a lot of time looking at them wondering how all their organs fit inside them. They look like size 6’s to me, they don’t look skinny just incredibly slender.

I don't think your spa is representative, given that the average size in the UK is 14.

And I've been selling on eBay for decades and literally can't give away clothing that's smaller than a 12.

Once in a blue moon, I sell a 10. And I'd say from the usernames that they're mostly quite young.

Oh my word, these cretins.

"Your hair doesn't look quite as red as it looks in the photo" ....
When they're lying about being 11 years younger that they are.

12 years later his absolute fuckwittedness still makes me chuckle 🤣 I swear I couid have written a book on OLD creeps

He's on a British forum.

If he's too obtuse to specify that he is American and referring to American women's clothing sizes on a British forum, I'm not sure why anyone's listening to his input.

he does not mind me ageing

That's terrible good of him, given he himself is aging. And is already considerably older than you.

PaterPower · 14/11/2024 14:54

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 14:29

I have always preferred slimmer women

Size 6 is not "slimmer".

I doubt most clothing brands even make size 6 clothes (unless they sell to tweenagers and teenagers like Quiz or somewhere) and that wouldn't be a recent phenomenon.

How rude

It's not remotely rude.

It's a fact that it's not representative.

asrl78 · 14/11/2024 14:52

I obviously cannot speak for all men but speaking from my personal perspective, the answer is no. I have a bias towards women older than me (I'm nearly 47) but what stimulates attraction in me is complex and cannot be pinned down to specific physical traits. Often it is things like a warm personality, shared values and interests that stimulate attraction, when it comes to physical looks I'm genuinely very open, and if a woman had the personality qualities mentioned above, she would have to be VERY physically ugly to turn me off.

Disclaimer: I have always been hopeless with attracting women and have only managed one short-length relationship so far, so judge for yourself whether what I say has any value.

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 14:52

In some races like my DH’s size 6-8 is normal and looks perfectly average

What race is that? Asian?

The op.is presumably Caucasian.

So (Far East) Asian body types are completely irrelevant to this discussion.

The man arguing that size 6 is "slimmer" and referencing his size 6 wife has not specified that she/they are Asian. If would be a huge omission if she is/they are.

KittyKatty123 · 14/11/2024 14:51

Best bit of advice I was given: hide your profile and only message those you like the sound of. Sifts out the players.

KittyKatty123 · 14/11/2024 14:49

I found dating to be extremely shallow and most men not looking for any commitment so it's more because of that that you'll get a lot of rejection, don't take it personally. When you find the right man he won't care how old/heavy you are, he will just like you for yourself.

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 14:49

A proper non-vanity sized size 6 lady is likely to be a woman of colour

You do realise "women of colour" includes women of sub Saharan African origin??

Size 6?

6!!

TwistedWonder · 14/11/2024 14:47

Each to their own but in my 50’s I’m really enjoying my freedom now my DS is an adult and I can’t imagine spending my time caring for a man old enough to be my dad. Or even pottering around garden centres etc while I’m still fit and healthy enough to be enjoying a really active social life.

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 14:33

I don't think a man whose partner is a size 6 and "also preferred slimmer women" (wrongly calling size 6 as slimmer) is really the person to comment on a women's dress size/figure.

You're not representative at all.

I'm a 12 (10 when skinny) and I've lost count of how many men have commented on my thinness "there's not a pick on her", "eat something!" (when I couldn't pull a sailing dinghy up a slope easily). Their wives are size 14/16 or so.

I'd say they're more representative.

DamselinDistress24 · 14/11/2024 14:45

We got together when she was in her 20s and I was in my 40s (just).

How come you were single in your early 40s? Most people are well settled by that age.
I'd be wondering very deeply why you were weren't, if I had been your partner's parents.

In conjunction with you going for someone so much younger than you, instead of the many women closer to your age.

HotCrossBunplease · 14/11/2024 14:43

My H says similar to you, he does not mind me ageing, which has been a worry of min

How very lovely of him. Does he also say that he doesn’t mind you breathing?

CocoDC · 14/11/2024 14:41

Tulip2478 · 14/11/2024 14:07

There is nothing wrong with that gap, it js the same as mine (17 years). It all depends if your purposeful only went for somebody much younger, or you happened to just fit! If my husband was only seeking out because I wasn't even 25 and he was 40 then that would have been a complete turn off tbh. My H says similar to you, he does not mind me ageing, which has been a worry of mine as it is with many women whose husbands are significantly older than them, but he does say he will not be attracted to be if I get fat. Reality is me and your partner will most likely be widowed young and be carers during our golden years. But life is unpredictable and sometimes the risk is worth it.

So he’s allowed to not be attracted to you if you got fat while you, presumably, will have to pretend to be attracted to him when he’s shitting and pissing himself? I’m not being unkind here but it’s obvious you’re either a troll or extremely naive and he was probably attracted to your vulnerability as much as your looks at 25.
