Something big is coming ...

Help me get a grip!

I have a horrible horrible feeling in my stomach that something big globally is about to kick off. I can't shake the feeling.

I know it's nonsense and I don't believe in all the woo stuff. I don't really believe in premonitions etc.. but I've only had this feeling once before and that was October 6th last year, and obviously things didn't pan out too well after that.

It's really stressing me out.

Please tell me the world will be the same tomorrow as it is today, my feelings last year were just coincidence, and I should just try and ignore this weirdness!

Has anyone had a feeling like before and all has been well?

Anyone know what these feelings are about? ... the science?

Thanks

@MigraineHangover

Seriously, do not worry. I am much much older than you and I can promise you that right from decades ago in the last century there have been times where the world has felt like it has been teetering on a knife edge.
Berlin Wall went up, Cuban missile crisis, atomic bomb tests left right and centre, Chinese cultural revolution, Cold war, Arab Israeli conflicts, Coups, Vietnam, Revolutions, Terrorist attacks, Idi Amin .... and that's just off the top of my head!

The world keeps turning, and I honestly don't think it is all much worse now than it was then.

OP please do not worry. 💐

Ah OP, it's horrible to have the low-level dread. You are not being silly.

BUT you can only control what you can control. It's good to stay informed on lots of different issues but vary your content - algorithms are very present. What you interact with will fuel your default position.

Things that will always make you feel better is time with people you love, fresh air, good food, exercise and creative outlets. Plus checking in on your hormones if you have a monthly cycle.

And, one of the first things I did as a new people manager was write out the word duarhea fifty times in case I had to write it in a return to work form in front of anyone. As you can see, it didn't work! :D

Ps. Thankful for spellcheck: diarrhoea

🙂🤣

It's my son's birthday this week so if you could stick a pin in the global destruction until next week that would be great.

Happy birthday brbg2g :) I'm sure all will be well and I'm just imagining this! (It's my son's birthday next week, so if it could hold off until December - or maybe January so we can enjoy Christmas too! that would be good!!)

Sorry! Hopefully it's just the remnants of my migraine playing tricks on my brain :) 🤞

You are feeling unwell so more likely to notice all that is bad in the world. Stay away from the news for a day or two and have some extra vitamin C and maybe vitamin D.

Extra fruit or juice and you are likely to start feeling better.

Have you been on the booze? 'The fear' is a classic hangover symptom.

Nope, no alcohol. But I have a migraine hangover (that's what I call the day after a migraine!) so maybe it's related.. I hadn't thought about that as a connection til a previous poster just posted something upthread. Thanks! 👍

Getting your news only once a day from print media can help.

Rolling news channels amplify everything. Other broadcasters can also amplify worries by the way they phrase things - yes BBC I'm talking about you and your stock phrase "how worried should we be?" which in itself suggest worry.

Criticising people's spelling! 😂

The best thing to do is stop watching the news, that doesn't mean you don't care about what's happening but we get overloaded with more shitty information than we are designed to process. We are built to worry about the things closest to us and things that often we have some control over.

To be constantly bombarded with devastating information on events we have absolutely no control over is just too much. If you want to continue staying up to date then do so by reading the news rather than watching the graphic videos, seeing it doest give you personally any more power to stop it unless you are a massively high ranking official in the military or govt.

Impending sense of doom is also a sign of heart attack / stroke can't remember which one in women so if you have risk factors maybe get checked out.

Oh that's really interesting. I had a horrendous migraine yesterday (hence username) and was vomitting repeatedly and couldn't leave my bed. I feel physically fine today, barr a sense of being a bit hungover from it (a bit spaced out and minor dull headache) so didn't make a connection, but maybe it's linked somehow. I'll keep an eye on myself physically today.

Thanks for that info.

I don't know what the pop is, so I guess not? As in fizzy pop? I haven't had any diet coke or Fanta for a while! I'm guessing you mean something else though ... (what is the pop!?)

Things are 'kicking off' all over the world all the time, not sure why tomorrow will be any different tbh

Itoldyousoo · 12/11/2024 10:19

They say to see a doctor if you have a feeling like this.

You do realise that diarrhea is a perfectly acceptable American spelling? Maybe you should also check the spelling and grammar on your own posts before criticising others

KimberleyClark · 12/11/2024 10:18

Are you peri or menopausal? Doom feelings are very common at that age!

The first poster used US spelling. Not everyone on this site is British or lives in the UK.

I always feel a bit “off” in October each year. I recognise it as an anniversary of a decades-old event that no-one else would attach any significance to. I acknowledge it and then let it pass.

Any other time I get the same feeling, there’s nothing personally significant to attach it to. There’s always shitty stuff going on in the world, so I get on with my own stuff and turn off the news.

IncessantNameChanger · 12/11/2024 10:13

Don't watch the news. I watch enough to get a top level idea of what's what. I might watch the lunchtime news occasionally or morning news but post watershed definitely not. I can't change anything anyway.

Think about your life. Your house, work, family. What's worrying you about that? Is it really something else. You can control that. So if there's a close niggle like work. Address that one thing. Tell yourself you can listen to bbc radio 2 new only for a month. It's 5 top level minutes. Your informed but your not drawn into.

Media wants to terrify us. But to what end? What can you do? Nothing. Ignore it. Will kids still die in Gaza,if you don't bare witness? Yes unfortunately they will die horribly if you see it or not.

SocksAndTheCity · 12/11/2024 10:13

Soupwithstring · 12/11/2024 10:12

@MigraineHangover aw, thank you.

I hope you feel more grounded asap.

My advice is to try and stay busy and have some social interaction, via work or a friend phonecall etc.

After my surgery I was wracked with cold slimy anxiety and what made me better was being busy and talking to people about something other than the thing that was worrying me.

MigraineHangover · 12/11/2024 10:12

Edingril · 12/11/2024 10:09

So you are the one person in the world to be able to predict it?

I know it's nonsense!!

I partly posted for 2 reasons:

  1. If something does kick off, I won't think imagined this!
  1. If something doesn't kick off (most likely scenario I hope!!!) then if I ever get this feeling again I can remind myself of this time, when I posted about it and nothing happened! It will remind me it's just a daft feeling and to ignore it :)
