Apoplectic that ITV have chosen Queen Camilla to host a documentary highlighting the domestic abuse of women when she was King Charle's OW for many years and complicit in his abuse of Princess Diana.

World gone mad!

@EdithWeston
Your link is from 2013- are you saying that’s when Camilla’s interest in this area began ? So 10 years ago ?

Yes, she started in 2013 (with public actions and patronages, and presumably had had a period of interest before that)

The link is current, btw, as it includes info on what she's done since then, including internationally) and charities she's only recently had a link with such as STORM
About – STORM Family Centre

Camilla was an abuser. Full stop.

Don’t be ridiculous. Using your logic Diana was also an abuser as she had affairs with married men !

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 10:21

I think it’s because the Windsors are writ large in the UK ( whether we like it or not - increasingly not!) that these issues matter so much .
So Charles and Camilla ( and others) gaslighting Diana etc then Diana’s death then Camilla crowned - it does not sit right . Comparing it to our lives isn’t justifiable- I’m sure all the Windsors have affairs but this one was suspected about for so long , denied, then admitted then the PR started . So cynical

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 10:11

I’d add that I’ve never been the other woman and there’s been no infidelity in my long marriage. We are far from perfect but some things just aren’t right . Loyalty matters

If I had been the other woman maybe I’d view Camilla differently . Queen side piece indeed

Sylviacrystal · 12/11/2024 10:07

Do you remember when Diana said she confronted Camilla about what was going on.

She said she said to Camilla, "I know what's going on I'm not stupid".
And camilla said to her "what are you upsetting about, you have everything, you have two boys".

And Diana said "I want my husband".

Camilla was so cold and uncaring to Diana all the time. She acted like it was totally fine for her to be having a long term affair with Diana's husband

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 10:07

@OWRLOSERS

That is an interesting post
I think what you are saying continues to resonate with many people , especially as Diana was so young and hopeful. I’ve seen Charles’ ‘whatever love is’ remark on YouTube, with Diana looking shell shocked beside him - how utterly crass he is
Proably worried about what Camilla would say

And no, royalists making reference to the passage of time , to Henry VIII etc does not work .
I wonder how religious people feel about it - Charles ( and soon William ?!!) head of the church . Though with the news about the terrible abuse in the CofE ans the establishment looking the other way , it’s all brushed under the caroet. Oh yes it’s all about ‘forgiveness ‘ isn’t it - for them of course but woe betide anyone who exposes their machinations - no forgiveness there .

The monarchy cheapens the UK

Sylviacrystal · 12/11/2024 10:05

I don't like camillas chain smoking gravelly voice too. She's like a caricature of the other woman

BIossomtoes · 12/11/2024 10:04

tuvamoodyson · 12/11/2024 07:00

Are you ‘apoplectic’ (how very dramatic!) over Diana’s affairs??

Why have you quoted me? I’m not apoplectic about anything.

Sylviacrystal · 12/11/2024 10:01

Camilla was an abuser. Full stop.

OWRLOSERS · 12/11/2024 09:59

Infidelity is a form of domestic abuse because it can be as demoralizing and damaging as a physical attack. To conduct an affair psychological abuse and coercive control are always involved particularly gaslighting and use of Darvo. An affair creates a power imbalance where the innocent party is denied agency and their sexual health placed at risk. Upon discovery a spouse feels humiliated, hurt, vulnerable, and helpless. Imagine how this may feel if you were married to the next king of UK and constantly under public scutiny? Adultery is not only devastating for the spouse, but for the children as well and carries long term consequences as we have observed.

We all know Charles shouldn't have married Diana, but he and Camilla could and should have behaved appropriately. An affair is a choice and both knew the potential consequences of their actions on Diana.

It is irrelevant they appear to have been happily married for X amount of years or that Diana went to have several affairs (with married men) herself.

Totally lost any respect for the monachy and he will always be in my eyes an abuser lacking in integrity along with his accomplice Camilla.

I think the marriage of C+C is successful because they don't live together full time.

Are both of them too "mature" now to play away anymore with others? That may be another factor in their "settling down" now.

As for supporting charities, I'm all for positive publicity, but something inside me just doesn't rate the sincerity of the lot of them. Do as I say, not as I do kind of thing.

Was fully agreeing with the comment, wouldn't have used the word chick myself (prefer OW) but the sentiment I agree with.
🙄 at "somebody didn't speak lady like enough, must be a man" - par for the cause on MN.

Well in all my 67 years I'm certain I've never heard a woman refer to other women as "chicks".

Startingagainandagain · 12/11/2024 07:47

Daft.

She did not 'abuse' anyone.

Good on her for using her profile to raise awareness of these issues.

All royals are involved with various charities.

I am not their biggest fan but I do think at least them supporting various good causes is a positive.

tuvamoodyson · 12/11/2024 07:00

BIossomtoes · 11/11/2024 20:39

She’s not hosting a documentary. The film is about a year of her life and as a longstanding supporter of abuse charities it’s inevitable that it would include her work with them. The more the issue has a light shone on it the better.

Are you ‘apoplectic’ (how very dramatic!) over Diana’s affairs??

Seasmoke · 12/11/2024 06:07

GiveusatwirlAnthea · 11/11/2024 23:11

You are not pointing it out at all, you are coming up with ridiculous suggestions to an incredibly complex issue.

The fact that homelessness is a complex issue means that really it shouldn't be left to Royalty. It needs proper solutions and money ( just like early childhood), not Royals tinkering and pretending it's their ' life's work' when they are not doing anything effective. Camilla talking about domestic violence highlights a criminal act which affects every section of society and may encourage victims, perhaps older or more middle/upper class victims too to come forward or relatives to question what is happening. William not spending any of his substantial fortune sorting out his own backyard and his own properties, not revealing his taxes ( when that money would go into a pot that is used to treat some of the causes of homelessness via the NHS and housing) and taking money from charities is different. Everyone goes mad with praise when William does a minimal thing but no one questions whether what he is doing is useful or effective. Just like Earthshot, which spent more on glitzy events than it did on prizes last time we were told. The press woukd rather talk about the one outfit a year William may reuse rather than his wifes enormous collection of remarkably similar clothes in slightly different shades or patterns, or the enormous carbon footprint of his family. The problem with Royalty pretending they care about complex issues is that gives the powerful an excuse to sit with Prince William or Kate and nod and pretend they are doing something but no one will scrutinise the actual effectiveness of any of these things because when it comes to the Royals, no one does. I actually think they should go off like old fashioned Royals an shake hands and cut ribbons and visit patronages. Preferably not while ripping off the NHS and charities.

RainbowSnake · 12/11/2024 01:13

I think it’s absolutely batshit to claim that an affair is abuse. It’s shitty behaviour, and abuse could definitely accompany it, but it’s not abuse in and of itself. I have no time for the Royal Family but I’m happy to see anybody using their profile to highlight how much of an issue DV is.

Snugglemonkey · 12/11/2024 00:55

MoonWoman69 · 11/11/2024 21:27

For a start, no Camilla is not Queen... She is and should be titled Queen Consort. Because that is what she is.
I have not been a royalist for many years, I have no time for them. But I do quite like Camilla.
And if domestic violence is a cause she chooses to support and a programme is made about it, which is including her support, then who gives a shit who she is and what she's done? Does it really matter if it's her or some celebrity female?
I'm sick of all this holier than thou postulation. Camilla and Charles should have been allowed to marry in the beginning. As for Diana, she was chosen for him purely because of her lineage. He didn't love her, he never did. It was to provide heirs to the throne and that is all. She was young and inexperienced when she became engaged then married. And as time went on, she didn't get the attention she'd have expected from her husband.
In affairs, it takes two to tango, she didn't force anyone to sleep with her! It truly pisses me off when people never blame the other party imvolved.
Anyway I digressed there, good on Camilla for the campaign, let her get on with it!

Every other wife of the king has just been known as queen whoever.

Snugglemonkey · 12/11/2024 00:51

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 21:15

She's not queen in a lot of people's eyes.

I think a lot of people think

Charles could have married any of the women he was having an affair with. It jsut happened to be her"

Any of his side chicks could have been queen

Edited

Maybe. But this woman is his wife of 20 years and she has been crowned. So she is queen.

JudgeJ · 12/11/2024 00:48

BIossomtoes · 11/11/2024 21:02

I’m sure Julia Carling took enormous comfort from that. 🙄

And the others, wasn't there an art dealer, Oliver Hoare I think. Is it not time to put away the myth of Diana, many people in that messy situation didn't come out well but why is only 1 person getting the blame?

JudgeJ · 12/11/2024 00:41

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 20:49

I mean having an affair with a married man , is obviously emotional abuse to the wife, Diana.

So let's be clear, Camilla has been abusive to someone.

Edited

Diana played the saint but didn't act like one.

Anisty · 12/11/2024 00:35

I thought she came across very well in the programme. In fact, it changed my view on her a bit.

I never liked her or knew much about her but she seemed genuinely interested and empathetic. I actually think she connected with 'Natalie' in a way that QE2 would not have been able to.

If the queen had formerly been a perpetrator of dv, I would understand this. But she wasn't and you are being ridiculous.

vegaspot · 12/11/2024 00:29

Camilla has always been a defender for women involvedin DM ..am not a fan of the RF but she has been very consistent about this cause.

TofuTart · 12/11/2024 00:23

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 23:46

That's what I feel was so bad about it.

They took advantage of and abused Diana, precisely because she was young and innocent. They were ten years older than her.

That's what doesn't sit right with me either when it comes to them.

TofuTart · 12/11/2024 00:20

BMW6 · 12/11/2024 00:17

The use of the term "side chicks" is bringing to mind images of sweaty fat 60+ year old men with comb-overs and terrible teeth leering at girls 40 years too young for them.

Have we been invaded by these creeps?
