Apoplectic that ITV have chosen Queen Camilla to host a documentary highlighting the domestic abuse of women when she was King Charle's OW for many years and complicit in his abuse of Princess Diana.

World gone mad!

I am going to say this loudly and proudly. I like Camilla. It takes a real strength of character to face up to all the very public criticism she's had thrown at her for 20+ years (as well as navigating her role with her husband and his 2 children). She serves this country well and with dignity.

She would be a Queen if she had been through the coronation process

She did. She was crowned in Westminster Abbey at the same ceremony as the King.

This article explains for the posters who don’t understand.

Queen Consort
This is the most common kind of Queen in history. The wife of a King. In the British system, she is ‘Her Majesty the Queen’ and signs ‘R’ for ‘Regina’ after her name – exactly as a Queen Regnant would.

Thank you @OWRLOSERS I knew I'd heard that somewhere, re Queen consort! She would be a Queen if she had been through the coronation process, but as she is only married to the king, she hasn't, so she isn't a true Queen. Prince Philip was never a King, it's exactly the same.

GiveusatwirlAnthea · 12/11/2024 13:35

HRH Queen Elizabeth 2nd said before she died Camilla was to be called Queen Consort NOT Queen Camilla but Charles ignored her after death.

How many times does this have to be explained, I will say it again so you can understand

Every single Queen throughout history who is married to a King is Queen Consort. Queen Consort is a job title, recent examples
Queen Mary, Queen Consort
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Queen Consort.
It’s the same for males who marry a Queen Regnant
The Duke of Edinburgh was Prince Consort.
None of them are called Consort it’s Queen/Prince name.

Do you remember when Diana said she confronted Camilla about what was going on.

She said she said to Camilla, "I know what's going on I'm not stupid".
And camilla said to her "what are you upsetting about, you have everything, you have two boys".

And Diana said "I want my husband".

Camilla was so cold and uncaring to Diana all the time. She acted like it was totally fine for her to be having a long term affair with Diana's husband

Exactly.

As far as the programme last night hypocracy filled the air and it was merely to promote Camilla. Not all abuse leaves bruises. Princess Diana was put in an intolerable position by her entitled and selfish husband.

HRH Queen Elizabeth 2nd said before she died Camilla was to be called Queen Consort NOT Queen Camilla but Charles ignored her after death.

Funny how some (on Mumsnet particularly) seem to have a short memory.

They had a nasty shock last week when their scandalous rip off of the public was exposed by channel 4 and the Times. I suppose they're trying to plaster over the gaping holes in their images.

In less than a week? The domestic abuse film was a year in the making, before all the editing time.

Good job then that William is using his position to convene the experts ion the complex issues, rather than attempting to position himself as the expert.

Is there a timeline for when we expect to see the findings and results of all these experts convening? If they are just siting there because William is there, then its useless. Kate has spent 10 years on her early childhood project and every 5 years we see a rudimentary pie chart produced. What results have been achieved, and how are they going to do it? If something comes out of these projects, great. But if they are just vehicles for people to sit around with Prince William, then what's the point of wasting the time of these experts?

Thank you - you have proved my point
Camilla had not been working with domestic violence all her life .
It was part of the rehabilitation of her image .
I think the PR guru who masterminded it won an award !

Well we don’t know how long she was concerned about it behind the scenes do we ?
The fact that the programme was made and is being discussed is surely a good thing ?
Even if she has “ only “ been involved for 10/12 years so what ? She is highlighting DA .
Surely better than flitting from cause to cause spouting word salad !!

#notmyqueen

I wish more people would stand up to the royal family in England.

I saw videos of people shouting at the king of spain (after the floods in valencia).

And the king took it and answered back. They talked to the king like he was a human with flaws

They don't fawn over the royal family like many people do in the UK. Camilla is just an old biddy that was a side piece. I wouldn't respect her

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 12:21

Two things can be true at once

5128gap · 12/11/2024 12:06

Women are living in terror in their own homes. They are hurt, maimed and killed, and left with life long physical and emotional scars. If any woman wants to stand up beside us and add their voice and influence to try to change that, no one has any business gatekeeping to reject her on the basis of her misdeeds and character flaws. All that matters in context is that she is on the same side as the rest of us where that issue is concerned.
Sleeping with a married man is not femicide. Knowing he is lying to his wife is not fracturing a woman's skull. There are degrees of harm. And your false equivalence between QCs role as the OW and the male behaviour we should be prioritising to address (in a united way) to make women safer is very jarring to say the least.

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 11:52

It’s not complicated @EdithWeston
Im saying that Camilla had an image problem , her image being someone who hurt Diana and was the other woman in a marriage .
A PR professional looks to where you are weak - when picking a charity that was borne in mind .
She started working with the charity in her 60s

We can draw our own conclusions .

I don’t believe the royals do anything out of the goodness of their hearts - they wouldn’t be billionaires off the backs of the people if they did .

If this conversation took place when she had two boys, then this may well be after Diana began her first affair, which we now know began before Harry's second birthday.

This argument doesn't wash at all. We talk about camillas affair, and you bring up Diana's affair

If you think that Diana's affair is bad, then it also means that you think that Camillas affair is bad!!

Really?

I thought the period when deliberate rehabilitation was believed to have taken place was before they married.

Are you insinuating that there is no substance to her actions in this area? Or that they've not really happened? Or what?

Lots of sources have said that Charles and Camilla hired a PR team to improve Camillas extremely bad image.

This documentary is surely part of that. It's all carefully planned

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 10:44

For Gods sake - experts do not need William to convene them !
He’s leeching off others’ work for spin

Stop being a slumlord , pay your taxes and stop ripping off public services William ! Now that would make a difference
I’ll not hold my breath

I’d add that I’ve never been the other woman and there’s been no infidelity in my long marriage. We are far from perfect but some things just aren’t right . Loyalty matters

If I had been the other woman maybe I’d view Camilla differently . Queen side piece indeed

I realise I sound totally santimonious in that post . I was being honest about my world view, not implying that I’m superior .

The fact that homelessness is a complex issue means that really it shouldn't be left to Royalty. It needs proper solutions and money ( just like early childhood), not Royals tinkering and pretending it's their ' life's work' when they are not doing anything effective. Camilla talking about domestic violence highlights a criminal act which affects every section of society and may encourage victims, perhaps older or more middle/upper class victims too to come forward or relatives to question what is happening. William not spending any of his substantial fortune sorting out his own backyard and his own properties, not revealing his taxes ( when that money would go into a pot that is used to treat some of the causes of homelessness via the NHS and housing) and taking money from charities is different. Everyone goes mad with praise when William does a minimal thing but no one questions whether what he is doing is useful or effective. Just like Earthshot, which spent more on glitzy events than it did on prizes last time we were told. The press woukd rather talk about the one outfit a year William may reuse rather than his wifes enormous collection of remarkably similar clothes in slightly different shades or patterns, or the enormous carbon footprint of his family. The problem with Royalty pretending they care about complex issues is that gives the powerful an excuse to sit with Prince William or Kate and nod and pretend they are doing something but no one will scrutinise the actual effectiveness of any of these things because when it comes to the Royals, no one does. I actually think they should go off like old fashioned Royals an shake hands and cut ribbons and visit patronages. Preferably not while ripping off the NHS and charities.

Good job then that William is using his position to convene the experts ion the complex issues, rather than attempting to position himself as the expert.
