Apoplectic that ITV have chosen Queen Camilla to host a documentary highlighting the domestic abuse of women when she was King Charle's OW for many years and complicit in his abuse of Princess Diana.

World gone mad!

Incorrect. You have none.

In your opinion. In my opinion, I do.

I've never had an affair with a married man for a start.

Have not read it all because it is a batshit thread.

However by the slightly warped logic- Camilla was cheated on for years by Andrew Parker Bowles before she and Charles started sleeping together (post his marriage- obviously as they were in a relationship in the early 70s). Does this make her also an abuse victim (er no but according to OP yes)?

I listened to such a moving interview on woman's hour where she had become life long friends with a woman who had to look after her grandchildren after her daughter was murdered by her partner. Camilla had been a huge support and campaigned a lot of the back of this relationship.

I've always liked her though. Tina Brown is great (and fair minded) on Diana/Charles/Camilla/Andrew in Diana Chronicles.

And also, what more does she bloody need to do to try and "rehabilitate her image". She is using her position to try and help some of the most vulnerable in society and she has been doing so for 12 years.

If you listened to her, you would have heard that her concern appears to be very real, and she understands the issues pretty well. She has learned of the issues through asking questions and listening carefully to the answers.

And @XxSideshowAuntSallyx I agree with you about Cherie Blair and Theresa May, two more women who face derision and scorn. "Oh Cherie is married to Tony Bliar - war criminal, multi millionaire blah blah" and "Oh Theresa May - TORY SCUM" etc etc. It's so pathetic.

EdithWeston · 12/11/2024 18:28

Ukisgaslit · 12/11/2024 11:52

It’s not complicated @EdithWeston
Im saying that Camilla had an image problem , her image being someone who hurt Diana and was the other woman in a marriage .
A PR professional looks to where you are weak - when picking a charity that was borne in mind .
She started working with the charity in her 60s

We can draw our own conclusions .

I don’t believe the royals do anything out of the goodness of their hearts - they wouldn’t be billionaires off the backs of the people if they did .

I think your conclusions are erroneous

Mainly because the rehabilitation period was from the War of the Waleses until the marriage. There was no need for it after 2005.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 12/11/2024 18:13

I thought it was the most inspiring and humbling programme. I cried through most of it.

As a survivor of domestic abuse myself, what Queen Camilla is doing is bloody amazing. We shouldn't feel shame but we do. I have a new found respect for Cherie Blair and Theresa May too.

I thought she came across as a lovely warm woman, and she's using her position to highlight something that so many people are ashamed to talk about. I thought her idea of the wash bag for rape victims was very thoughtful as well.

This thread really indicates to me how simple and binary so many people have become.

Person does bad thing = person is irredeemably bad forever and it cancels out all good things they ever do from then on.

I vehemently disagree with someone about x = I therefore need to publicly say so and never agree on anything they subsequently say in the future.

It's actually quite frightening.

It is worrying isn’t it, also Camilla is the punch bag on here for women who have been cheated on, they feel powerless and are projecting it all onto Camilla (yet Diana and her many affairs with married men plus the stalking, anonymous phone calls etc.) gets a free pass, some of the posts on here are unhinged, it’s really not normal.

Camilla is a bit manky.

I saw her talk the other day, and I thought that she was very rough.

Of course it was an abusive relationship.

Look up the definition of abuse.

Lying and gaslighting to someone is abuse.

Paul Burrell, Diana's butler, wrote that Prince Charles told the butler to lie to Diana about Camilla coming over to Charles house.

It's manipulation and abuse.

Do you agree that Diana was also abusive given her affairs with married men and the harassment of at least one of the wives ?

Camilla cares about stopping domestic abuse, except when it benefits her, by having an affair with someone else's husband!

Good for her. She's been doing great work with DV charities for years.
I'm sure I read that it's because of personal experience in her own family- her parents relationship maybe?

Charles and Diana's marriage was doomed from the start, they would never have been happy together. Calling it an abusive relationship is a massive stretch though

So they were clearly meant to be a couple if nearly 40 years on they're still together!

I find QC marginally less repellent than KC, so arguably, if he were not so well placed I'd have thought she could have done better. However my interest in them as people is slim to none and in all honesty I care about their happiness about as much as they do mine. I do care about VAWG and DV though, and if QC wants to support the work she will be useful.

I think the poster means that a lot of people don't really see her as queen. They just see her as a side chick.

Well then they're just as daft then. All this "not my queen" is insane. Since when have we chosen members of the royal family? And I don't say this because I'm a royalist - I say it because those are facts.

Be a republican if you want. However hereditary monarchy isn't a popularity contest. You get to be monarch through and accident of birth, and the person you marry is then your queen if you are male.

Do none of you want to actually talk about the content of the programme, or the reality of domestic violence? I thought she did a great job myself - she was interested, compassionate, matter of fact and humble. She was also extremely kind and sensitive to the women she met. Apart from Sophie (another outsider who married "in") I can't see the other royal women using their position to help other women this way. Can you?

Camilla is just an old biddy that was a side piece

Nice.

Do you realise that had Diana lived she would now be in her sixties and GASP eventually she would be in her seventies too. Like Camilla is now.

Yes I like many old people. I've no problem with old people. Some of my favourite people are in their 70s.

I don't like Camilla, which is why I will call her an old biddy.

Havalona · 12/11/2024 17:09

The pair of them are well suited. Few redeeming qualities in either of them IMV.

That would cover morals, money and manipulation.

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/11/2024 17:08

She has supported DV charities for years. Actively.

it’s not a glamorous cause and she’s done a lot to support these charities and raise the profile of these issues.

She's not really the queen

Of course she's the bloody queen. She's married to the King.

Unless you're saying that only Elizabeth II, Victoria, Queen Anne, Queen Mary II, Elizabeth I, Mary I and Matilda were actual Queens?

I think people would be less angry if Diana had gone on to have a second happy marriage of her own.

Charles took all of her best years. And he made her waste most of her life in a loveless marriage. Diana never got to experience a loving happy marriage.

Them Diana died, and charles is lovely and happy with his sidechick. It all leaves a bad taste
