Apoplectic that ITV have chosen Queen Camilla to host a documentary highlighting the domestic abuse of women when she was King Charle's OW for many years and complicit in his abuse of Princess Diana.

World gone mad!

OP, at this stage in her life when what's done is done, what would you like Camilla to do differently on the matter, presuming it is important to her for whatever reason? She could do nothing, donate privately with no raising awareness, or she could do this public work which brings a lot of attention given her profile?

Prescottdanni123 · 11/11/2024 22:20

She the Queen. The Queen doing work with charities and standing up and saying on national TV about the issues that so many women face can only be a good thing.

@Sylviacrystal
I think you're getting far away from the original point, which was about Camilla drawing attention to domestic violence.
The fact is, Charles and Diana were married, Diana manipulated the press to be sympathetic to her and lots of people fell for it.
Now Charles is married to Camilla, Camilla is Queen Camilla and her influence is very valuable on the subject of domestic violence.

I'm not getting far away from the original point.

The opening post of this thread said how hypocritical it is for camilla to do this documentary, precisely because of what she did to Diana. And we have all been discussing that.

Diana has been dead almost 30 years. She is past help and should be past grief. Life is for the living, not the long dead. I can't believe people still hold grudges about something that happened 40 years ago on behalf of a dead woman none of us knew.
Charles should have married Camilla, not Diana. They are happy together and have been since way before Diana's death. He and Diana has about two years of some happiness, if that

Well why didn't he bloody marry camilla not Diana.

Yes he was under pressure. But he was an adult he should have stood up for himself.

People don't like it because Diana was dragged into it like a lamb to a slaughter and used as a breeding machine

I'm watching the programme now.
I don't give a fuck who carried on with who.

I give a fuck that this programme had to be made at all, that all these charities and refuges had to exist, that women are never ever going to be safe.

I hope this programme has opened a lot of people's eyes.

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 22:11

Wendolino · 11/11/2024 22:08

No, she didn't find "gifts". It was one gift, a goodbye gift as he was giving up his friendship (not affair) with Camilla for Diana's sake.

I've got lots of photos, it doesn't mean I'm having an affair with the people in them.

That Lady Fermoy testified against her daughter is irrelevant in the story of Charles and Diana. She knew Diana was mentally unstable and admitted that she shouldn't have encouraged the match, but the appeal of a close relative as a senior member of the RF was too tempting. She was also a close confidant of the Queen Mother so Charles + Diana was a perfect match on paper. Incidentally, Diana's own mother, Frances Shand Kydd, was none too happy about the marriage. She knew it was unlikely to be successful due to Diana's mental instability.

All these women were criticising Diana and not looking at themselves,

If Frances shand kydd cared so much about Diana's mental stability , why did she leave the family home. She could have put the children first . She put herself first.

And also instead of criticising charles (who also had a lot of bad tendencies) they criticised their Diana. Why, simply because the royal family were more important

Yousay55 · 11/11/2024 22:11

100% agree with you, op.
She knew exactly the trauma that Diana was suffering thanks to her and Charles. To inflict that on another woman, a mother of two children, is disgusting.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/11/2024 22:10

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 22:02

We've already said that.

So is your point - that it is bad for people to have affairs

No, my point is that if Camilla is being accused, by some, of being an abuser of Diana, Diana is a bigger abuser of women and Camilla was also abused by whoever her own husband had affairs with.

Personally, I don't regard Camilla 's behaviour with Charles as abusive of Diana but I am making the point that if Camilla is to be judged on those terms, the judgement of Diana must be at least as harsh rather than simply as the poor victim.

Coolasfeck · 11/11/2024 22:10

I wonder if she said anything to her BFF Jeremy Clarkson after he wrote a column saying he wanted to see Meghan paraded naked and having shit flung at her? Sounded pretty abusive to me and no way would he have dared to publish his weird misogynistic violent sexual kink if he felt it would damage his relationship with Camilla, her MIL.

Genevieva · 11/11/2024 22:09

Diana was fed lies by Martin Bashir to make her paranoid. Consequently, she stopped using Metropolitan police security. Had he not done this, she would not have had a drunk security guard.

Charles was visibly distraught when he went to Paris after she died. His marriage with Diana didn’t work out, but he has never said a bad word about her. He praised her fun parenting style and her ability to engage with the public. That’s quite something, given how unsuited they were to each other. It’s also worth remembering that the upper classes are routinely unfaithful and invariably stay married to each other. Charles and Diana were perhaps the last generation to have an arranged marriage. They both knew that it was dynastic, not romantic.

Wendolino · 11/11/2024 22:08

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 21:51

Incorrect again. Diana found romantic gifts between charles and camilla at that stage.

She also found a photograph of camilla that Charles kept in his diary.

How exactly was Diana having flights of fancy, when charles was having an affair with camilla?

The grandmother you are talking about was a cruel old woman. She testified against her own daughter, (Diana's mother) in the custody case, because Diana's father had more money and power

No, she didn't find "gifts". It was one gift, a goodbye gift as he was giving up his friendship (not affair) with Camilla for Diana's sake.

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 22:06

A woman said to me earlier this year, when talking about kate,

She said

"I'll aways be convinced that the royal family killed diana".

I think there's a good few people that think this way

comedycentral · 11/11/2024 22:04

I think she probably has a platform among an age demographic of women who might traditionally hide abuse and never report it or seek support. Someone with a platform like hers can only shine a spotlight on an important issue and potentially lead to support for people.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/11/2024 22:04

YABU and very weird @OWRLOSERS.Confused

She is the queen. ITV didn't choose her. She's doing an amazing job of highlighting and amplifying the damage done by domestic violence.

FKAT · 11/11/2024 22:03

You're right OP. ITV should definitely seek a high profile woman of unimpeachably pure character to host a domestic violence documentary. Let's shelve it until they find one.

How was she complicit? I get being the OW is not sisterly but I don’t see how she’s responsible for anything Charles did.

Well she is with him now, knowing how he treated Diana....so she is condoning abusive people by being with one!

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 22:03

steff13 · 11/11/2024 21:49

Maybe, but not the most efficient way to kill someone, considering she likely would have lived if she'd been wearing her seatbelt.

We've been told that she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Was there any proof of that.

Diana's sister sarah said that Diana religiously wore a seatbelt, that she never travelled anywhere without putting her seatbelt on

Diana had several relationships with married or attached men-
A four year affair with married art dealer Oliver Hoare- when he ended it she made over 300 anonymous, traced by the police phone calls to his home and hundreds more before his wife involved the police and they began tracing them. His wife was terrified of who it might be.
An affair with Will Carling who was married and whose wife, Julia, faced phone calls to the house and Press picking up on the affair and staked out the house and her husband to catch him and Diana. It broke up the marriage.
An affair with James Gilbey who was in a relationship and engaged at the time.
A relationship with Dodi Fayed who was engaged to be married.

Camilla's husband, Andrew Parker Bowles had affairs from the start of his marriage to Camilla.

We've already said that.

So is your point - that it is bad for people to have affairs

What a vile thread. Infidelity is not the same as domestic abuse.

Well done to her for educating herself and using her position to raise awareness. Whatever the sordid details of the past love affairs were.

OWRLOSERS · 11/11/2024 21:59

doodleygirl · 11/11/2024 21:06

Educate yourself OP, she has been involved with domestic abuse charities for many years, she is not fronting this programme just because she is the Queen.

No need to educate myself, I'm well aware of Camilla's involvement in domestic abuse charities and always felt the hypocrisy.

Charles had a choice, leave Diana, end the marriage. Hardly a man of integrity. Camilla had the option to decline his approaches until he divorced, she didn't and instead rubbed Diana's nose in it.

The passage of time does not make their actions any less grievous.

really??
nit sure the point of the post to be honest

5128gap · 11/11/2024 21:58

If it gets people watching and discussing a documentary that gives a voice to survivors, and raises awareness to help other women escape, they could bring on the devil in a frock and tiara for all I care.
