Across the road cant seem to read a calendar and are having a display. Dog going berserk, can't hear tv. Absolutely livid

Aibu to think if you're still setting fireworks off now you're just a little bit fucking dim

From the 2nd to the 9th with one night off on Friday, just one family doing it.
Screaming ones this weekend, each one lasts 30 secs before the next and the next.
When I think it's over, BANG. They were just setting up the next lot.
It's a quiet village backwater where I am, so we're used to silence of an evening, but my neck ends up like a taught rubber band.

Justleaveitblankthen · 11/11/2024 10:50

There are many more wild creatures and birds than there are pets, so YANBU.

Around where I live we get the once a month 'Bangers' announcing a new supply of Drugs, for those that want them.
Bloody infuriating 😡

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Drug dealers let off fireworks in their own gardens to signal what, exactly?

Haha they used to say it in my hometown too! They'd let off fireworks to show that there were supplies available at the park, allegedly. So we all believed as kids. Suppose it's a good way of letting the police know! I didn't know about the single firecracker at the end!

Changingplace · 11/11/2024 10:21

scalt · 11/11/2024 08:39

A single firecracker apparently means "the supplies are in".

Don’t be so utterly ridiculous 😆😆

This sounds like total nonsense. Drug dealers use WhatsApp just like everyone else does. It's end to end encrypted. And you can get across more details than just "bang".

I'm not a user myself. But it's common sense.

My child is scared of them but I sympathise, but it's not all year round.
We need to accept that people inconvenience people to some degree. My neighbors also tolerate my children making noise on other occasions.
You say you have a dog - there are plenty of people who are scared of dogs, allergic, hate piss and poo on sidewalks and in parks, or just dislike barking, yet it hasn't stopped you from getting it!
I think the only group that really should be taken into account are those with PTSD etc.

Fudgeytastic · 10/11/2024 20:57

I love them! My 3Dc, dog and 2 cats are pretty chilled about them too.

That they have stock

icecreamsundaeno5 · 10/11/2024 20:35

They certainly provoke strong feelings. But currently legal to buy and use, so best to desensitise your pets I think. You can't expect the world to revolve around your fears and preferences.

Where I live there are fireworks being let off every week and at all times of day. Some of them are so loud and echo around like bombs going off. I've heard them mid-afternoon in summer in broad daylight and they've woken me up at 2am. Apparently drug dealers use them as some kind of signal.

I love a good firework display, they're so pretty, but I support a ban on sales to the public with only licensed displays being allowed.

I do think they are to be expected on the weekends either side of a midweek Bonfire Night.

I actually really love them - the sparkle, the pops and bangs, the smell in the air. I have lots of lovely, nostalgic memories.

I have a dog but desensitised her to unexpected bangs early on - slamming doors, cars backfiring, fireworks.

MidnightMeltdown · 10/11/2024 20:28

Fireworks have been going off here every night for the past two weeks. I don't mind an organised display, but people that let them off in residential areas are dickheads imo. Especially the teens who just randomly let them off in the street.

They should be arrested. I'm not sure why the police don't care about people carrying explosives around and setting them off just because it's november

lasagnelle · 10/11/2024 20:31

They're probably on offer? Cost of living and all that

Just started again here. Last night was dreadful with some idiots setting loads off around midnight.

Wendolino · 10/11/2024 20:02

They're probably getting a bit of revenge on you because they're fed up of hearing your dog barking

I love fireworks and luckily our cats don't mind them but this year seemed like more than ever even with the 5th being midweek and Diwali. I'm not sure if they've got cheaper but some houses seemed to be having multiple display-level shows of fireworks at home

I love fireworks. I don’t see why people can’t enjoy them because some other people have dogs.
Dog owners, in my experience, have no consideration for others so shouldn’t expect it in return.

I don't own a dog. Or a cat, or any other animal which might cause, annoyance to my neighbours. I am however scared of fireworks and fed up of feeling anxious and on edge every evening wondering when the next bang is going to happen. I'm especially fed up of the ridiculously loud ones which make me jump out of my skin and panic that it might come through my window.

I am using CBT techniques to try to keep calm, but it doesn't stop the fear completely. Am I allowed to be fed up? Or is someone going to come up with a reason why I am a fun sponge who just needs to suck it up?

CountFucula · 10/11/2024 19:29

Well it’s the season for fireworks… next weekend you might have a point.

ColaCar · 10/11/2024 19:27

Fireworks going off over here and I literally don’t care. I love fire works, kids have watched them from the house.
More the merrier I think.

ladymalfoy45 · 10/11/2024 19:26

Some of them seem particularly loud this year. Our village had an organized display last week ,as the the castle in the neighbouring village.
On Tuesday the fireworks from private gardens sounded like ordnance at various points.
I love the whooshy , sparkling fireworks but the bangs are louder than ever.
Our cat has never been frit of them until this year.
My dad's neighbors let off three of those cubes with multiple bangs and scared his three cats .
Several neighbors complained to the house because the bangs were so loud. And those neighbors didn't even have pets.
I m of the opinion that it's a particularly thoughtless person that buys extremely loud fireworks when one can purchase less noisy ones.
