I’ve been thinking for a while that somethings going on with my daughter and I and I’ve been trying to find ways to repair our “broken bond”.

But I have just spent a whole week with other kids her age and I realised, I think it’s just this age group that I don’t like very much! I mentioned to my friend and she said she can’t stand the toddler age where’s as that’s my fave one.

Was just wondering if anyone else had preferences like this!

Toddler stage is horrid, so boring and you constantly have to watch/amuse them. You are waiting for them to go to bed, what a life.

The best- 4-9 years old (before the tween years start!)

Honestly I disliked every age for one reason or another, but also liked all the ages for other reasons. Motherhood was and still is tough for me even after 28 years, but I’m not maternal and am an extreme introvert so that had a lot to do with it too.

Fellow introvert and have 2 DC 3 year old and 3 month old. Was fine until 3 year old dropped his nap wnd I dont get that mod/late afternoon break. DC1 would nap 2 solid hours and it was heaven. When DC2 came along the first 10 weeks they would nap together and still had 2 hours to myself. It is crucial for me to have down time on the day but naps been dropped for 3 weeks and it is so hard. As there is no peace. DC2 is going through threenager stage so lots of back chat wnd whinging and complaining.

We never went through terrible twos thought we avoided the madness but he hit 3 and he has been a nightmare.

Everyone keeps telling me boyw are easier as they get older / teens wnd if you had w difficult start it gets easier the older they get. I hope that's true.
3 month old has been a dream bwby?

I really loathed newborn to 1. Everything so far far (1-5 years) has been great, with 2 and 4 being particular highlights.

Don't know how I'll feel when my own gets there, but I don't naturally like 15 year olds.

Jessie1259 · 10/11/2024 18:59

DS is an adult now. 0-1 was the worst by a thousand miles.

MichaelAndEagle · 10/11/2024 18:57

I'd say tweens. Attitude, starting to need/want some freedom, but there is so little freedom you can actually give them.

But I have teenagers now, they are a lot nicer.

EarthlyNightshade · 10/11/2024 18:55

I found baby and toddler hard but lots of joy, the school years age 4-14 were great.
Navigating mid/older teens has almost broken me though.

PanAmHostess · 10/11/2024 18:55

I thought I'd be a better mum

cinnamoncaby · 10/11/2024 18:54

Ds was a nightmare with sleeping until four years old. Now he is 14 and lovely. Dd was a nice baby and toddler but during primary school she had a crisis and continues being somewhat difficult. She is 12 years old now and I think problems will continue.

BestZebbie · 10/11/2024 18:52

I wouldn't say "dislike" but the hardest age to parent for me so far has definitely been around 18 months when they are too alert to be distracted by wandering round the local supermarket pointing at beans (etc) but only have a sub-five minute attention span for any activity you attempt to do with them instead.

Smartiepants79 · 10/11/2024 18:49

My own kids- we’ve been pretty lucky. Each stage has had its challenges and difficult moments but I can’t say I’ve ever really been unhappy or disliking any stage yet, eldest is 14. There are many things I’m enjoying about her now but I do miss the lovely little girl she was.
Other peoples children - I deal better with primary age. Age 7, 8, 9 is my least favourite of the primary years. Lost their cuteness but still very immature. Can be really obnoxious if not parented well.
Teens are just a bit of a foreign species! 😂 Luckily mine and her friends all seem to be pretty lovely.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 10/11/2024 18:48

I have 3 kids and would say different ages for each. It definitely depends on the character. 3 yr olds can be a nightmare for parents, but i work with this age and they are absolutely delightful. I loved the chats at 7/8/9 with my own DC but I hated large groups of them and you couldn't pay me enough to teach them.

Emptyheadlock · 10/11/2024 18:45

0 to 29.

Bananasatchristmas · 10/11/2024 18:44

Absolutely toddler stage - like looking after a drunk person 24/7. Poor sleepers, no reasoning, one was a bolter and a tantrummer- the other constantly on a suicide mission with climbing and touching and pulling, yada yada.

They’re 9 and 13 year old now - far more civilised but know the teenage years are very close 🥴

I wasn't keen on the age round 6.
I.loved from 9 to adulthood including the teens.
Teenage years were my favourite.

Agreed. Teens are fabulous!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 10/11/2024 18:24

Babies. I worry I’ll drop and break them.
also I find them boring

Comedycook · 10/11/2024 18:23

I find newborns easy...love that stage.

When they start walking, it's becomes really difficult. Toddlers are incredibly hard work imo...18 months is the absolute worst age imo.

Primary years are absolutely lovely.

Teenagers certainly have their challenges.

If you could skip out toddler hood and the teen years...so baby, primary age, then adulthood it would be much easier and I'd have had loads of kids!

MaggieBsBoat · 10/11/2024 18:23

Between 3 and 12. Rubbish.

I love wee babies and adolescents with opinions and chat!

Treeinthesky · 10/11/2024 18:22

Oh my dd age 10 is lovely as is my 14 nearly 15 year old they are really helping me cope with my recent breakup. Anything under 8 no thanks 8 up is great.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 10/11/2024 18:21

I'm finding young adulthood REALLY difficult.
Basically because they are adults so are making their own decisions, and living completely seperate-ish lives and we have to stand back and watch.
But always be there when they want us and financially support them too

I feel like we are constantly walking a tightrope....

And none of the lovely cuddles, bedtime stories, family days out etc etc

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 10/11/2024 18:20

I think there's a difference between finding parenting children of a particular age difficult and disliking children that age.

I found looking after a newborn/young baby very difficult, also early toddler years, but that doesn't mean I dislike children that age. I would think there was something a bit wrong to actively dislike small, innocent children.

scibidy86 · 10/11/2024 18:17

Im finding Age 12 a bit shit at the moment ...

Zanatdy · 10/11/2024 18:16

I disliked 1-2 the most, well I found it the hardest. Give me the teens any day. That said, my kids have been dream kids really, been incredibly lucky (and I do consider it luck rather than any expert parenting!). They are 20 and 16 now

Growsomeballswoman · 10/11/2024 18:15

Yr4 and Yr5

BertieBotts · 10/11/2024 18:14

About 3.5 to 7 I really struggled with my eldest and am not particularly keen on the early primary years in general.

I did feel like it broke our bond and was really worried about it. He's 16 now and it did get much better, the teen years have been brilliant so far. But I wish I could go back and reassure myself!

DS2 is 6 now and while I'm not finding it as stressful as I did with DS1, there are still definitely aspects of this age I'm finding trying.

My absolute favourite age is definitely toddlers. Age 2 in particular is just gorgeous and the younger end of 3 is great too. Youngest DS is 3 now and I am still enjoying his age a lot.

Mishmashs · 10/11/2024 18:13

Looking back the baby and toddler years were relentless but rewarding, the kids adored us, big hugs and cute and cuddly. My daughter has just turned seven and it’s tricky, she asks for a lot of stuff or to do a lot of stuff and when I say no (because, life) she gets in a sulk and is angry with me. It’s almost like she can’t let an hour pass without asking me for something. A bit wearing.
