To ask DH to continue to work

I don’t. I am happy and content with the life I have worked so hard to create for our family. We live in London, so close to art galleries, concerts, restaurants, amazing shops, museums. There are a thousand things to do.

DH wants to sell our house and use the money to reset our lifestyle. It will mean a very lovely country house but it’s not what I want. I want to remain in London for a long a possible, I love energy and the vibe. I realise I am saying this from a very privileged position, and this isn’t the reality for everyone.

We live in a house, with an annex and we have friends and relatives from all over the world come and stay with us. I will miss these connections if we move.

We are still in our early and mid 40s and I had assumed we would have another 10+ years living in our house. The children all go to excellent private schools here, and all will be moving to secondary schools soon and they won’t receive the same quality education if we move.

Would it be so unreasonable to ask DH to not move. I think we could compromise and buy a small cottage we could stay in during the weekends. I know it sounds selfish but I nor the children want to mov.

You haven't really explained what it has to do with his work Op

GiraffeTree · 10/11/2024 14:24

Neither of you are being unreasonable. He's not wrong to want to move to the country and you're not wrong to love your current life and want to prioritise your DC's education (although there are great schools outside London too).

Keep talking to each other OP. Can you find a compromise? Would you be prepared to move in say 5 years (or will that be a bad time for the DC?).

CandyLeBonBon · 10/11/2024 14:21

Why does he want to move?

Mlanket · 10/11/2024 14:20

Does he have a very stressful job & life & want to pare it back as you say reset?

I work as well but the bulk of the income is from DH job. Mine salary is a pittance compared to to his and couldn’t find anything on just mine

Your post is misleading. The 'I don't' seems to refer to your title where you say you want your DH to continue to work, suggesting you don't.

VestPantsandSocks · 10/11/2024 14:18

What are his reasons?
Does he feel that the finances won't be enough going forwards?

SnakesAndArrows · 10/11/2024 14:17

You might want to edit your post if there’s still time. Your first two words imply you don’t work but you think your DH should, despite him wanting to stop.

Womblewife · 10/11/2024 14:17

The post says “I don’t” , do you work or not OP?

2024onwardsandup · 10/11/2024 14:17

I’m guessing he has a massively stressful job and is about to burn out??

if that is the case

you are being massively unreasonable

BendingSpoons · 10/11/2024 14:16

Is the reason for the move to reduce costs? A nice house in London plus multiple school fees on one salary presumably means your DH has a job with long hours and lots of responsibility in order to pay well. Does he actually want to move to the countryside or does he want a better work life balance and this is his solution?

@GogAndMagog jeez get a grip

lazyarse123 · 10/11/2024 14:15
