No no no no no. Most people are wonderful, they really are. You are worrying me because you sound like my adult son.
I work in a hospital and patients say "oh it must be horrible doing your job with all the horrible abusive patients" but NO,.... most people are lovely and kind. Don't let a few twats cloud your view of the majority of people in the UK.
I'm sorry you feel like this 💐

I'm v glad people like you exist but honestly I cannot bear it. If my work tried to make me go back to the office I would lose my mind. Being around other people is a physical discomfort to me

(Except for close friends and family - those are fine but the trouble is how to see them without being exposed to other people Out There)

Well, I'm 35 and I can't stand people, they are the worst and I try to interact with them as little as possible. Esp now with all the moron Trump supporters coming out of the woodwork.

And the racists which are bloody everywhere.

I fully agree with this ! 😊 it's such an ugly world.

Only if that is what you focus on.

I'd love to live in my immediate world only.
Like in 1982 or something.

Diaries, landlines, calendars, newspapers only. Postcards, letters and a paper savings book.

Discos, phone boxes, great TV.

Yes, immediate world. I think about this a lot. Making an arrangement, the excitement of walking to meet somebody. The chat afterwards with friends.
The stomach flipping butterflies....would I see him or not? Moping around in a library for hours incase somebody turned up.

I doubt birds agree with you.

Bizarre comment!
Humans do much worse intentionally for various reasons (including purely as a "hobby") to all animals birds included than a cat following their instinctive behaviour to catch a bird and eat it.

TheWildRobot · 09/11/2024 17:39

I doubt birds agree with you.

I doubt worms agree with birds.

What a strange comment.

My cats have encountered birds only and handful of times (when they fall down the chimney) and they shat themselves each time at the wild flapping thing in their space lol.

housethatbuiltme · 09/11/2024 17:40

I already live like this.

I see my husband (who is my best friend and my chosen soul mate) and my kids (the family I actively wanted) everyday. Other than that I rarely leave the house except Dr appointments etc... at the moment.

I have one friend I see a few times a year who lives about 2 minutes away. I see DH friends about half a dozen times per year at social events we are invited too and frankly thats enough physical interaction. I can chat to friends who live further away via messenger if I want and chat shit about the world on MN (which I can then just up and leave mid conversation an ignore if someone bothers me which is 'rude' in real life) lol.

No. I think you need to be over 40. I am 57.

Yes. Cats are much nicer.

I doubt birds agree with you.

TheWildRobot · 09/11/2024 17:37

An island full of animals and no people would be nice.

Lifeomars · 09/11/2024 17:27

I used to be really sociable, out as much as I could when I was young and then later in life I liked having visitors and guests, liked cooking for people, be it lunch on my days off or evening meals at the weekend. I liked going to gigs, the cinema and out for meals but these days it all costs so much and i can't hack crowds and people's rudness and unpredictable behaviour, If I do go to town to eat out with friends we go earlyish as things can get quite volatile as the evening wears on in the city I live in. As for having people over, I find all the cleaning and meal prep such a hassle now. In many ways I miss the person I used to be, i changed a lot during lockdown, I had to learn to live without company and I have yet to unlearn it and welcome company again

Lentilweaver · 09/11/2024 17:26

The thing is you can play games and cards in the modern world too and keep your telly. I am part of a games club. And my friends are part of crafts clubs, knitting clubs, cooking clubs.

I have said this before but I dont want to only see DH and DC till I die ( other family scattered)..Do you all just have nicer or more interesting families? 😁

IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 · 09/11/2024 17:26

My DD is 21 and was mostly housebound for around 5 years, but started uni in September so she's basically "out" in the world. We just went to Waitrose and as usual, full of utter entitled dickheads pushing and shoving, entirely over 40s (and most over 60!) - that's in a small English country town type place. She asked me on the way home why are people like this? I suppose because they think they can be? But as I say mostly older people (I'm 60+!) so nothing to do with "youth of today". I told her they're just fuckwits and the art is to learn to ignore them, not get out of the way for them unless it suits you etc. It's an art to be cultivated - but she shouldn't have to. (Either that or shop at Lidl ...)

I, on the other hand, have a face that can stop a bus so I never have to worry about twats like that. But all joking aside, it is worrying and breaks my heart to see my caring lovely DD being treated like this.

HermoinePotter · 09/11/2024 17:25

I’m normally a people person but not today. 5 camper-vans parked in my drive didn’t get the day off to a good start. In the end a tractor was involved to remove them so I could get out. I’m peopled out today with their stupidness and rudeness.

I would love to live the life my grandparents had. In the middle of nowhere in a tiny cottage. Radio. No telly. Big range and a cat.

They used to play cards or games most evenings or do crafts.

Granddad could make anything out of wood or metal and Gran could knit, sew, crochet and cook. They grew most of their food and kept hens.

They didn't even have a lock on their doors.

Absolute bliss....

Petitchat · 09/11/2024 17:19

I'm getting old. I love people watching but not people chatting.
Wish they'd all bugger off.....

ViciousCurrentBun · 09/11/2024 17:19

@Anisty It’s an online forum and any platform has a higher percentage that has people with issues. Some are just naturally shy and others are like that because of circumstance. If people are having to spend time with negative, unkind, intrusive people or are very short of time it’s understandable. But people seem to celebrate the fact that less contact is needed with everything online.

Personally love meeting new people. The one issue I have with people that don’t want to mix at all is it may negatively influence their children.

I'd kill myself if I had to live like this.
Though I would like the cat. Many cats.

You know OP, it's the current fashion to say this now. But none of us could survive without over people.
Every single thing you do. Eating, taking a dump, even the device you're typing this one is the result of thousands of people working together.
So whether you like it or not we need each other.

Even those who claimg to live 'off-grid'... well, they need fertiliser etc for their plants, farming equipment... can't make ALL of it themselves.

User37482 · 09/11/2024 17:09

I keep bumping into people I know when out about, truly lovely people but I still wish I didn’t have to stop for a chat. I generally like people but I am just so wrung out at the moment. So yes.

Is it about people being awful though or really just about them not bringing anything positive to your life?

I know nice people. Do I necessarily want to spend time with them? No. I had a group of work friends. Nice people, we'd meet up outside work sometimes. But God all they talked about was work (we do an intense job). I tried so many times to talk about other things but it would be a 5 minute convo then back to work stuff. It also didn't help we didn't have anything in common other than work. I used to come back from nights meeting them and DC would say "did you have a nice time" and all I could really say was "it was ok". They're all lovely people, can't say a word against them but I realised it was boring. Then covid happened and we've not met up since but I don't miss it.

I don't want/need to spend my time in company just for the sake of it. I'd rather do something i enjoy alone because I find myself fun!

isn't that just a group of people you don't enjoy being around though?

what if it was a group you really liked being with, and lived nearby, wouldn't you want to spend more time with them?

surely this is more about the fact that it's more difficult to socialise due to the way things are now. less community, more diversity, it's more expensive, logistically people are scattered, busier, stressed, there is more entertainment at home, we can interact digitally, so it's more convenient for a lot of people just to be by themselves.

i don't think that's particularly healthy and there appears to be a negative cycle where more and more people become disconnected from each other.

Latticewindow · 09/11/2024 17:00

Yeah, I’m getting more and more like this.
