They should just rename Mumsnet Misanthropes Anonymous and be done with it.

Exactly.

I should have added, noise, stink and the absolute entitlement to your time and energy.
How did you get through school?
We were brought up to become little emotionless soldiers in the Communist state I was unfortunate to be born into.
They didn't succeed!
Bastards. 😁

Well if it's any consolation my experience of childhood in Scotland was not great either

But better than what kids experience now in many ways

I volunteer for a foodbank and chat to people who are having a hard time. It could be an unexpected crisis and they are embarrassed to be there or they could be regulars with all kinds of problems but they have always been polite and grateful for what we do. At the end of a session I always think I have met some interesting people.

I don't see the world the way some of you do at all.

Same

How did we get through school???? I have nothing but empathy for kids now who are refusing school cos it's bananas

Wow, your second sentence.
That's how I felt since childhood.

No I hated people before WFH
Their noise and stink and lack of empathy
WFH just means I despair less frequently

Wow, your second sentence.

Yes. Cats are much nicer.

They're not. They only give a fuck about themselves from what I see 😮

Really?!!

Is this some sort of joke thread?

I love people. They are fascinating. I love people-watching and i love talking to people. Everyone is interesting.

I'm an old person though. Is this what technology has done?! Or are you all old as well?

I love people too. Absolutely everyone brings something to the table 🙂 I'm late 50s, which I don't think is old ..... but I do realise that it's all relative 😮

I'd be very sad living in isolation 😢

Menopausalsourpuss · 09/11/2024 19:12

Yes, I was OK until 2016 ish. That was probably when other people started using social media, getting hysterical about politics (like this week) and being on their phones too much and being brainwashed by the media. I would also like to go back to 80s when I was a teenager or even the 90s. Things were better then and people just got on with life.

It's work that's done it to me
Customer service. Since Covid people have been a hundred times worse. It gets to the weekend and I'm all peopled out

I'd love to live in my immediate world only.
Like in 1982 or something.

Diaries, landlines, calendars, newspapers only. Postcards, letters and a paper savings book.

Discos, phone boxes, great TV.

So do it?

My DH isn't in any social media. I do think he's happier for it - and probably happier than me.

VeraYin · 09/11/2024 19:01

Yanbu. There is a lot of selfishness about. I'd rather keep away from people other than when absolutely necessary.

OptimismvsRealism · 09/11/2024 18:57

RampantIvy · 09/11/2024 18:56

Because people suck! It's not really sad it's the human condition. We live, we endure arseholes, we die.

But not all people suck, and you have contradicted yourself by saying that you have lots of friends. So there are lots of people you do like then.

I have lots of friends for a typical person. As above it is just hard to get out to see them so they'll have to come to me in my new no randoms world.

I hate that disliking and wanting to avoid other people is somehow considered a kind of "high status" position on mumsnet. If you like and enjoy being with people you are definitely a "mundane". Trivial, shallow, superficial and un interesting.

It's fine to like it fair play to you! Just not to assert that disagreement is a sign of failure. Personally I can't wait to get out of this place.

Ps there's no bigger cunt than a cunt who says "mm maybe I'm not the cunt maybe YOU are"

No. I've got lots of friends, close family a nice relationship history. The problem isn't me.

but honestly I cannot bear it. If my work tried to make me go back to the office I would lose my mind. Being around other people is a physical discomfort to me

I feel that this is so sad.

@OptimismvsRealism why do you have such a negative view of people?

I haven't liked every single person I have met in my life, but I like most people and have met some very kind people who have been very supportive when things have gone pear shaped. I am selective about who I keep company with and have some very lovely friends and workmates.

I agree that far too many people have become isolated and insular. I also agree that life is too short to surround yourself with people you don't want in your life, but if you dislike everyone apart from your own family I can't help thinking that the problem isn't other people, it's you.

Well I was out selling poppies today and chatted with so many warm, friendly and generous people I felt quite uplifted. From those handing over a few coins with an apologetic " that's all I've got" to those with larger banknotes and an airy " keep the change". Children who are in scouts, beavers, brownies etc getting their poppy to wear in parades tomorrow, to the immaculately turned out Cadets who gave me a polite " thank you ma'am" when I put money in their tin.
I saw nothing but good today.

Worded beautifullySmile

Interlaken · 09/11/2024 18:49

2/3rd of the people agree with you, but you may have noticed the circle jerk of hate: the rude/loud/unkind/stinky people you are all talking about are each other.

OptimismvsRealism · 09/11/2024 18:48

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/11/2024 18:40

Maybe those noisy stinky people are more happy and pleasant now you are not working with them. It sounds like a win win. Stay home OP

If that's so why are they always complaining about those of us who don't come in?? I also doubt they have the sensitivity to even consider anyone else. It's all just about them getting to be "big personalities" with an audience.

The Scottish Highlands on the NC500 route.

I thought that might be the case. How infuriating.

Mebebecat · 09/11/2024 18:46

I love people. They are great for the most part and I wish them well.
I still don't want to see or spend time with them. I prefer my own company doing my own thing. I'm not miserable, I don't hate them, but I have cultivated the life I want and it doesn't include (hardly) anyone else.
