But who actually are you interacting with that you haven’t chosen??? If you WFH this is surely largely already your world?

People on the bus and the train and on pavements and cycling at me on those pavements

Shop assistants and waiters

Etc

Unpopular view and will send a lot of people into a frenzy but I was never happier than during lockdown so I totally get it. I cannot bear the majority of people. Work is the worst, having to spend time and be pleasant to people who are just hideous, so stressful!

If you only have three friends I don't think you're in a position to be lecturing me on popularity

I thought you didn't want to interact with us stinky people?

OrangeGreens · 09/11/2024 21:25

OptimismvsRealism · 09/11/2024 21:22

It's not really... The problem is it's quite hard not to be forced to interact with people (see eg the back to the office cult)

It would be a brilliant world if we could choose exactly who we interact with

I think tech will support this in my lifetime 🤞

This is it. If the OP finds everyone else bland and stinky then she is the common factor. I am not a social person and only have three friends I see separately about once every three months but I still like people. Even the ones I work with and the 100 a week I see each week in my stressful job.

It’s important to let the people know you won’t be interacting with the people, how else are they going to notice.

This thread makes me think that some people live in a strange place. The world's not perfect, it never has been but surely it's not as bad as many seem to think.

This thread is a bit like one of those MGTOW groups - we're not going to bother with women. So they then go on the internet to talk about women and how they're not bothering with them. So you wonder, why don't they just get on with their life and not think about women.

Similarly here we have people who don't want to bother with people, who come on here to interact with other people, about people. Why don't they just get on with their happy life away from people then. Hermits who live out in the mountains with no access to services are just getting on with things away with people, they're not seeking company on an internet forum.

This "movement" probably needs some term of its own, it's quite a concerning development.

@happybluedog your dad is making the most of the time he has, with cups of tea, with familiar people and with the strangers that he needs to care for him. By the way, my relative's carers were some of the loveliest and genuinely compassionate people I ever met. People who work in hospices are the same. I find that when given the chance, lots of people are better than you think they will be. If they are not, I agree side-stepping them is the right move.

I'd love to live in my immediate world only.
Like in 1982 or something.

Diaries, landlines, calendars, newspapers only. Postcards, letters and a paper savings book.

Discos, phone boxes, great TV.

What's stopping you? Some of those things are easily available. I have a landline, a calendar, a diary. I read newspapers, send postcards, write letters, I even use a film camera. If I want great TV I watch DVDs. No-one is forced to use technology all the time, you can pick and choose the bits you use.

Isnt there a phrase that goes something like:
”If everyone you meet is a wanker - YOU are the wanker”?

I mean Im kind of antisocial myself but it’s not because I think everyone is awful, that’s ridiculous. I’m just lazy and quite like my own company.

Cerealkiller4U · 09/11/2024 21:13

I am honestly so devastated by recent friendships

i just fucking give up.

Cerealkiller4U · 09/11/2024 21:12

OAPapparently · 09/11/2024 14:16

100% agree.
Apart from my DC I would happily not interact with people face to face ever again. The modern world is turning people into monsters.

Yes

this.

100%. We should have like a friends group.

where we literally support each other and become friends. All those that morally are the same

Cerealkiller4U · 09/11/2024 21:11

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 09/11/2024 14:12

I want to runaway from everyone and everything, except my kids. Sounds sensible to me.

Same. My kids my husband my mum his family

friends treat me like shit and I let them

its fucking horrific.

DreamTheMoors · 09/11/2024 21:11

I used to live high, high up in the mountains.
Rarely saw another human being.
Birds, deer, chipmunks, squirrels were my only companions.
The air was clear,
The sky was blue.
The weather was perfect.
It was absolutely the best time of my life.

Yup

totslly get it

i lent a friend a £145 top when we climbed a mountain. She became almost hypothermic and the guide thought she was going to get airlifted off the mountain. She asked my husband and me to take her the 7 hour journey home

on the way home she’s shivering. I work in search and rescue so I understand hypothermia. Half way home I was so worried I phoned a friend.

I realise she’s wearing wet clothes. So we stop and I let her borrow my joggers which were £55 and this rab jacket which my husband had brought me as a gift. I adored it but I’d only managed to wear it once but it was all I had.

she’s now refusing to give it back. She said it was in her car (we climbed this mountain in march….)

she gave me my joggers back but she said I’m so sorry I’ve shrunk them. I got them back and said errr. No you haven’t? She said oh thought I had. Oh well. Can I have them then?

insaid what why?!/!; and she said well because I like them

now she told me my rab jacket was on her car. We went out to her car and she feigned surprise Anne said oh I think I took it out to do the washing.

the next week I saw her some 11 times and I asked each time. She said that I was annoying her and I needed to grow up ffs. She’ll get me the top but not now

oh. Wanna know why I wanted the top back?

because I’m just about to fly abroad to see my father who has just been diagnosed with some rare type of cancer…. And I desperately needed it because the weather turned.

if she told me her mum was in hospital with cancer and she needed the top I’d love heaven and earth for her or replace it

im sat here in absolute tears to think this is someone I chose to be a friend:……I literally am in tears everytime.

its fucking shit that I desperately needed it to go see my dad. It’s because we can only take hand luggage and not goods up so flat.

gutted.

people devastate me. Everytime.

People are just out to use you for their personal or financial gain. You really do have to advocate for yourself these days.

Solidarity from likeminded people… Very different to having to interact with undesirables in person..

I have no need to seek solidarity on here from random strangers, I have that from people in my life. Funny that isn't it.

AnotherDayOfSun · 09/11/2024 21:07

OP, some of your references sound like you could be suffering from depression. Could you consider that possibility? It can affect how you feel and view the world. And unfortunately, vulnerability can attract unkindness, as we see from some of the less supportive responses here. So that can make you feel even worse. It might help to talk with someone you know personally, or to read up on depression. And know that you are definitely not alone trying to deal with all the headaches in our world! Best of luck.

It's normal to feel this way

Doping yourself up to convince yourself that the awful dynamics of human existence are cool beans isn't particularly worthwhile imo

Not buying it.

If you were happy in your own little bubble, you wouldn't need to come on here and seek connection. You made this entire thread to get a dopamine hit from bonding with others.

People who are happy in their own little bubble don't need to label "people" as good, bad, awful, etc. It's simplistic and serves no purpose, other than for you try and feel good about yourself by putting yourself above others.
