Intended to be light hearted! Some are obvious like politics - what other things secretly make you roll your eyes when they're bought up at say, a dinner party? I hate hearing detailed descriptions of people's holidays lol. I like to hear if somewhere is nice but not a whole two week itinerary! I think my friends husband wants to tell me shut up already when I talk about pilates lol, what are yours?

Any form of toxic positivity/manifesting/dream boards. These people never seem to get the hint that I’ve switched off and seem desperate to convince me that just thinking about something desirable makes it happen.

Diets & calorie counting
having to ‘get rid’ of or rehome their pet
conspiracy theories- new world order etc
anything Andrew Tate/russell brand
anyone’s psycho ex
talk of moving a new partner in when they have kids
cheating partners but ‘they’ve never been stronger’ type conversations

Ohthatsabitshit · 08/11/2024 21:36

i like talking about politics religion etc. peoples sex lives and diets not so much. People farting on about benefits or how disabled people are bludgers or got their diagnosis by lying to the Dr, or how they’ve “self diagnosed” makes me glaze over.

This, I remember a group of us going out after work and this woman kept banging on about her children and said “sorry boring mum talk” (no one else there was a parent). Like if you know it’s boring then stfu.

Mine is maybe quite niche. People talking about their dogs. I have a group of 3 friends + me and they all have dogs and whenever we meet up we have the same conversation. “How’s Rover?”, “Oh how’s Toby?” Etc. I’ve heard the same story about one dog having hydrotherapy three thousand times. The worst was when the dog question was asked and one friend was late, late friend turned up and asked the dog question and I had to hear it the stories all over again.

YES. I know someone and we once spent pretty much the entire meet up talking about her dog. It was so boring. I barely talked about my kid! And then she showed me so many photos.

I also hate when people ask you a question and as soon as you try to answer, they jump in and talk about themselves instead.

gamerchick · 08/11/2024 21:35

Definitely people's kids. On and on and then they get their phone out and show you 5 minute videos. Makes me want to run.

The main thing I hate is when people tell a mundane story and reference people you've never met and will never meet. "Oh I was at Jane's house for a cup of tea and then met up for lunch with Lorraine who I worked with at blah blah blah"

I honestly do not give a fuck!

Heh, especially when they stop and go 'no, that's not right, it was.....' and change a couple of details.

timetodecide2345 · 08/11/2024 21:33

Mountains- my brother goes on incessantly about his mountain holidays. Yawn!

Illness. I turned 60 this year and it is as if some bad fairy waved a magic wand trapping everyone's mind in a loop on health trivia. When I meet friends, the first thing any of them talk about for at leat 20 minutes is hospital appointments, whether that tickle in their chest last week was Covid etc etc. I want to scream.

Baguettesandcheeseforever · 08/11/2024 21:03

Oh god. This is the thread that I’ll read when I know I shouldn’t and then overthink every damn thing I say in conversation. Then I’ll lie in bed in 2075 and think about the conversation I had in 2024 and whether the other person was judging my choice of topic.

Lol, me too.

My pet hate is people talking about their careers, doesn't actually apply to all jobs. But finance, desk bound stuff. Promotions, movers and shakers, office politics, money, money. Mind numbing.

Newsenmum · 08/11/2024 21:32

When people take a really long tike to tell you something so basic.

Comedycook · 08/11/2024 21:31

Their expensive house extensions...they always tell you every sodding detail except the one you really want to know...how the fuck did you afford a 150k extension?!

DutchCowgirl · 08/11/2024 21:30

People who are into “alternative medicines” and paranormal stuff like gemstones and give unwanted advise about it.

I love talk about holidays, dogs and kids. I just can’t process anything that is so unlogical and unscientific.

Lovelylydia · 08/11/2024 21:30

Marvel & DC films. I audibly groan.

How on earth do you end up talking about pilates regularly at social gatherings?

What on earth is there to keep yabering on about

My SIL talks about yoga EVERY time I see her!
“I'm just coming from yoga class....
I'm so relaxed from my yoga.....
I'm doing this yoga course....
I love doing yoga in the garden in this mild weather...
I've bought this contraption for yoga inversions...

I mean, I do yoga but I manage not to mention it in conversation 🤣🤣 cos I know nobody gives a toss 🤣

Katesam2016 · 08/11/2024 21:29

At work a few days ago someone had passed their driving test. Cue every one else in the office telling a long story about their driving test, the route they took, how many minors they got, how many times it took to pass. Lost the will to live.

And my dad telling me which car belongs to which house in the street, when it last moved and he’s also checked if it’s got tax and MOT on the dvla.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/11/2024 21:29

JazzyJelly · 08/11/2024 21:27

I love a conspiracy theory!

Go on crazy man, tell me how aliens built the pyramids as a spaceship to get to their home planet but the bigfoots killed them before they could blow up Mars!

Just reading that annoyed me! 🤣🤣

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/11/2024 21:28

I took cannot stand any talk of conspiracy. That probably is my most hated topic actually

Bear0511 · 08/11/2024 21:28

Yes to dog talk. It bores me to tears. I really couldn’t care less about the minutiae of your dog’s personality or routine, or that Rex had worms last month.

I have DC and I try not to talk about them too much, especially to people who are childfree, as I totally get that it’s boring for them and they aren’t interested. It’s a shame the dog contingent don’t offer me the same courtesy…

JazzyJelly · 08/11/2024 21:27

MamaAndTheSofa · 08/11/2024 21:15

Conspiracy theories. I hate anyone bringing up a subject they know is controversial and speaking their opinion as fact.

Whinging, especially about really petty crap. I don't mind someone letting off steam, but listening to someone bang on about how they couldn't get a parking space or something is so tedious!

coldcallerbaiter · 08/11/2024 21:26

About their dog. I just don’t care.

Jins · 08/11/2024 21:24

It used to be team sports but people have diversified recently so now I’m bored about their cycling, running etc. Trouble is that they are solitary sports so they join a club and bang on about that as well. Couldn’t care less about your personal best, your ranking or your sport induced injuries.

As long as the person talking has the self awareness to stop when people look bored I don’t mind any topic of discussion but I wander off when sport is mentioned

Edwardandtubbs · 08/11/2024 21:23

True crime. I have anxiety about personal safety and avoid watching or listening to anything about grisly crimes. I sat through an entire dinner party where the topic of conversation was true crimes. All night. Including some that I had never heard about before so I got some new nightmare fuel. Thanks folks.
