Intended to be light hearted! Some are obvious like politics - what other things secretly make you roll your eyes when they're bought up at say, a dinner party? I hate hearing detailed descriptions of people's holidays lol. I like to hear if somewhere is nice but not a whole two week itinerary! I think my friends husband wants to tell me shut up already when I talk about pilates lol, what are yours?

OP posts:

About their holiday when they met Jon snd jane from Milton Keynes who were hilarious. Bla bla.....

Zanonie · 08/11/2024 22:02

Conspiracy theorists, I always find the sort of people that love a conspiracy theory hate that they can't convince you to agree with them. In particular Madeline McCann, nobody knows what happened to that poor girl but so many people are convinced they've got it figured out, same with 9/11.

WateryBottle · 08/11/2024 22:01

Actually I think it’s more to do with the person. My closest friends can be interesting on any topic because they are just good at telling a story or expressing an opinion.

My issue is repetition, I don’t care how good a story it is, if you told me it last time we met, please remember that and do not tell me again!

Crazykefir · 08/11/2024 21:57

Oh God yeah house extensions and flipping house prices.

At work a few days ago someone had passed their driving test. Cue every one else in the office telling a long story about their driving test, the route they took, how many minors they got, how many times it took to pass. Lost the will to live.

And my dad telling me which car belongs to which house in the street, when it last moved and he’s also checked if it’s got tax and MOT on the dvla.

Omg yes I forgot this one. Without fail if a driving test is mentioned everyone will insist on boring you to death on how they passed theirs.

Unless you have an hilarious and unique story please just stay quiet.

Almostwelsh · 08/11/2024 21:56

Their work. People they know at work and their ways. I don't work there, don't care, don't know your colleagues.

needideas24 · 08/11/2024 21:55

I think we need a thread about what is ok and interesting to talk about! I'm a guilty of a few of these Blush

TakeMyLifeAndLetItBe · 08/11/2024 21:53

The covid years and veganism. I usually try to make a quick exit or change the topic.

Oh, rather than mixed sex company? That’s what was puzzling me, as none of these topics would seem to me any more or less palatable depending on who you were discussing them with.

Their hobbies and interests that I know nothing about, using terminology that means nothing to me. So when they say "I bought a dirty combustion dressage pigeon yesterday, and when I'd scraped the varnish off it turned out to be an X3R2 from Venezuela" I don't know whether to make my excited happy face or my Oh mate, you were done one.

Crying with laughter

MrTwatchester · 08/11/2024 21:47

This is why family mealtimes and conversation is way overrated. Can't go wrong if you all just quietly watch telly together.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/11/2024 21:02

The main thing I hate is when people tell a mundane story and reference people you've never met and will never meet. "Oh I was at Jane's house for a cup of tea and then met up for lunch with Lorraine who I worked with at blah blah blah"

I honestly do not give a fuck!

This

When people talkabout their fooking gifted kids.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/11/2024 21:44

Money. I remember meeting my exes kids the first time and one asked me my salary and how much I had in savings. Ex was pretty shocked when I told her that information was my business and only mine. Cheeky moo

I had lunch with a group of about 5 every day in a previous job. There were 2 women who would constantly talk about spinning. Honestly I cannot understand how one can talk about spinning but it was constant. How was your class? Great. How was yours? They talked about levels they got to, music that was played, even the sequence.. we did 60 seconds higher and then 60 lower.. no way! We always do 30 second alternating etc etc. 3 of us would sit there like spare tools while they did this.

Hmmmmnotconvinced · 08/11/2024 21:41

Ghosts, religion, people I don’t know, work, topics I understand very well when people think they do but don’t, cars, anything about gardening or cooking.

whyeyeeyeeyeeye · 08/11/2024 21:41

Route chat. Any conversation about traffic, public transport, road works, picking a short cut, what car people are driving (ESPECIALLY if they wang on about electric vehicles), which route people would use to get to a particular location at a lenticular time of day. All of it. Makes me want to jump out the window.

MixieMatchie · 08/11/2024 21:41

"Mixed company" means both sexes - what do you all think it means?! I thought this OP was going to be about discussing periods in front of menfolk or something!

OverthinkingOlive · 08/11/2024 21:40

"Have you met anyone yet?"

Fuck off

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 08/11/2024 21:40

GiveItAGoMalcom · 08/11/2024 20:58

People banging on about their weight and diets.

This! So dull.

I just can't stand when people gossip about others and clearly enjoy the drama.
Tell me about your kids, your holidays, your job, your friends, but don't bitch and gossip to me about others and look like you're having the time of your life.
