Intended to be light hearted! Some are obvious like politics - what other things secretly make you roll your eyes when they're bought up at say, a dinner party? I hate hearing detailed descriptions of people's holidays lol. I like to hear if somewhere is nice but not a whole two week itinerary! I think my friends husband wants to tell me shut up already when I talk about pilates lol, what are yours?

House prices, usually by some smug idiot who bought with the help of mum and dad in the early 2000s and can't figure out why anyone else isn't so lucky.

hellywelly3 · 09/11/2024 00:52

When people talk and talk about something they know nothing about. It could be something you are a specialist in and they still insist on talking at you about it.

Meamie · 09/11/2024 00:46

Politics and blow by blow accounts of films/tv series they’ve watched but you haven’t, because you’ve no interest in it

Any form of toxic positivity/manifesting/dream boards. These people never seem to get the hint that I’ve switched off and seem desperate to convince me that just thinking about something desirable makes it happen.

Oh god yes it is so dull. And they have never actually manifested anything themselves either, they just think they might in the future.

The Manifesting A Husband ones are the worst - it is like being trapped in a lift with the “Looking for a man in finance, 6’5, trust fund, blue eyes” woman.

Berlinlover · 09/11/2024 00:27

Anything whatsoever to do with Covid. I can tolerate anything else under the sun.

ponams · 09/11/2024 00:23

Asking people what they do for job. Very dull and I'm just not interested in talking about it or hearing about it.

When someone says they were watching such and such tv show/soap last night and ask if you watch it. You say no, and they suddenly start telling you what happened with x y and z in the latest episode.

When I had hyperemesis, it was food. I was amazed (and disgusted) by how often the subject came up.

TheaBrandt · 09/11/2024 00:06

Anything in moderation is fine. I like hearing about holidays / renovations / kids /sport genuinely interested in diet and exercise all
wirthin reason. It’s all about knowing your listener and keeping it interesting.

That said I am NEVER interested in bloody dogs.

Tink3rbell30 · 09/11/2024 00:05

People that I don't know or a lengthy story of something random they did 20 years ago.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 08/11/2024 23:59

Cancer snap! As i used to call it when DM had it. When someone asks you about the ill person and when you say she is on radiotherapy for example, they say no way my colleagues mum is getting radiotherapy too!! Or worse (as MIL used to do) remember Karen from the park, the green door, well her daughter married an accountant remember the curly haired chap, well his sister married a builder, already divorced, lovely fella apparently and they moved to Canada and his Mum is having radiotherapy too!!

I thought it was an older person thing until I had a miscarriage and was shocked the amount of people who did the snap thing. A pal listed all the other people she knew who had MCs and was so busy telling me their details that I hardly spoke. F*ing hell if we are going to sit here and discuss MCs at least let it be mine.

  • People who insist on telling you (in detail) the plot of a film they have seen, especially when you have just told them it's not the sort of film you are interested in watching (and they seem to think telling you the boring details will make you change your mind).
  • People who think their medical history, visits to A&E and conversations with doctors about their tedious ailments are fascinating.

The main thing I hate is when people tell a mundane story and reference people you've never met and will never meet. "Oh I was at Jane's house for a cup of tea and then met up for lunch with Lorraine who I worked with at blah blah blah"

I honestly do not give a fuck!

It's not just telling you a story about people you've never met or care about but what makes it worse is when they correct themselves. "So aunty Jane and her husband Paul, no sorry her husband is Steve. Anyway they were going to Blackpool or was it Bournemouth in August. No wait I think it was June......."

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 08/11/2024 23:43

I have a few I hate being brought up

weight

their sex life

their hairdressers appointments and beauty treatments.

favourite foods. I don’t mind when it comes up on threads on here and add to them, but in person it usually leads to a yawn fest of them telling you how they cook it.

DIY

wedding planning in excruciating boring detail. Telling you their colour schemes and how their world has ended because they can’t get this or that.

GogAndMagog · 08/11/2024 23:32

New loft / kitchen / extension.

Nobody made you do it. I don't care how stressful it is.

whydoihavetowork · 08/11/2024 23:24

Recounting all their illnesses for several hours which then turns out the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with them...

Anicecumberlandsausage · 08/11/2024 23:22

House prices.
Immigration and what we should be doing about it. (My dad's favourite subject, unfortunately rooted in xenophobia and racism)
Religion.
Holidays in far-off places. No I haven't been to Jamaica. I haven't left Europe, ever.
Cars! Yes! I've never owned one!
How successful the children are. Couldn't care less.

Anyone who wants a pity party, where they go on about their woes, and things that have gone wrong recently, which to be honest aren't that bad and are just a part of life, and you're supposed to just listen and be sympathetic.

People who start a conversation with "have you not thought about how unhealthy children are today?" And basically it's all down to conventional medications, conventional doctors and vaccines. And big pharma is the enemy, did I not know?

Trying to convert me to bullshit holistic and alternative medicine.

If any were to mention crystals or angels in a serious way.
