Vicious XL Bully attack leaves five-year-old boy with life-changing injuries and needing facial reconstruction surgery | Daily Mail Online

Little Teddy needed 100 stitches in his face but was lucky to escape with his life.

Is it unreasonable now to ask the Government to give a warning in the media, that children are to be kept away from these dogs? Not to enter a house or garden where they're known to be? Even if told that the dog is safe, which they are not.
This little chap was visiting a home with his family when it struck.

XL Bully attack leaves young boy needing facial reconstruction surgery

A five-year-old boy has been left with life-changing injuries following a vicious mauling by an XL Bully in Scotland. His traumatised family who helplessly watched on in horror now want the breed banned.

Somebody found one wandering locally recently. Put pics on FB before taking to a vet for chip identification. The dog was enormous, it also had cropped ears. The comments though, none about the actual terrible danger of this dog being loose and unmuzzled, it was all "poor baby", "what an angel", so on and so forth. It blows my mind that anybody can have these dogs as pets.

Sheer lunacy. These people are brain dead. I wish we could put them and the XLs (and the staffies etc) in a big compound, and leave them to it.

Pussycat22 · 08/11/2024 21:40

Scarred for life because of thick bastards insisting on having these vicious dogs There should be strict legislation to own one of these dogs if they can't be culled.

Phase2 · 08/11/2024 21:36

Well predictably change.org is full of 'don't ban the ickle baby bullies' with one suggesting harsher penalties.
Someone needs to create a very clear well worded one

Errors · 08/11/2024 21:36

I am no expert on dogs, but I would rather take my chances with a staffy than an XL. Of course my preference would be to not be attacked in the first place!
I think for me, this comes down to risk. It seems that the number of attacks recently are disproportionately down to XLs than any other breed. And after reading that article someone kindly posted up thread about the lineage, I can see why.
Can anyone who knows anything about other Bully breeds explain to me - do other bully breeds at least give a warning?! A growl or grumble or ‘snap’ before they attack? It doesn’t seem like the XL does which is what makes it so dangerous. You can always teach a kid to heed a warning from a dog but sometimes, there isn’t one!
And how common is in-breeding and/or sudden onset rage in other Bully breeds?

It seems like the XL’s have the perfect combination of a totally unpredictable killing machine. I think part of what makes them so dangerous is luring their owners in to a false sense of security by being so docile and loving and then giving no warning before attacking you. And then of course being so powerful that there isn’t much you can do once they flip.

Its bad enough these attacks are happening in owners homes, but you can always refuse to go in as a visitor. What worries me is what you do when you’re out and about in a park say?

This is my worry too. I don't want that risk, for my dc or anyone

They all need euthanizing. Seriously.

We need to totally rethink dog ownership in this country. Dogs should require a compulsory licence with a seize and destroy notice if a licence is not obtained within 7 days. No one has a right to dog ownership. The licence fee would fund the necessary wardens etc.

Thing is, if you pass the cost onto the owners (including the cost of clearing up dogshit) then there will be wails of how unfair it is, a tax on "peoples rights*" etc etc.

And I don't see that we should use taxes for something like this whilst children go hungry.

*People need to appreciate that every right is also a privilege.

Christinglechristmas · 08/11/2024 21:10

Personally I'd like them and anything remotely resembling them put down.
Also it needs to be a policing priority with resources and money thrown at it for two years to make it more hassle than worth while

Christinglechristmas · 08/11/2024 21:08

They probably did errors @Errors but there are strange pyscology attachments going on a sense of belonging. We are part of the xl bully club, the pooor darlings etc.

I think new laws need to come out to make sure it's an offence to have them within any radius of the children and certain not as family pets.

Re jaw it's been on various things about this lock jaw thing

Bobkite · 08/11/2024 20:42

"However, some 55,000 dogs have been registered with Defra, meaning the majority of XL Bully owners have kept their pets'"

55,000 of them? And that's just the fuckers that are registered. What a horrible thought😧

I'd happily sign a petition. Fuck it I'd happily march the streets in London if someone wants to organise a protest to get them culled!

The sooner this becomes common knowledge the better.

I’ve just sat and read the whole thing. I wonder how many XL Bully owners will read it.

It would also be much kinder from a welfare of the dog point of view for these dogs to have a day of the best snacks ever, a trip to the vet and a forever sleep, than being dragged out of the house by strangers or shot by a Police marksman, when they inevitably turn.
But the owners of these dogs aren't that bothered about the welfare of anyone else, dog or innocent child, just their ego's.

Agree, we need a petition!

Poor sweet baby😞 I really hope he isn't left with any permenant scars.

'However, some 55,000 dogs have been registered with Defra, meaning the majority of XL Bully owners have kept their pets'

Not so reassuring that there are so many roaming around our streets / parks / outside our homes

Only 405 have been compensated as they chose to put them to sleep

LivelyMintViper · 08/11/2024 20:18

Visiting a new salon there was a Staffy curled up in a corner. The hairdresser noticed my side eye and assured me he was gentle and harmless. She went on to say she'd had his littermate too
Apparently they'd been twins. I asked if the other dog was at home. She replied that he'd had to be pts after he attacked a child in the salon who'd been running up and down .
.

Is there a petition anywhere to have all XL bullies culled? I'm sure there must be. If it reaches a certain amount of signatures it has to be considered in parliament. I would happily sign as would most sane people I should imagine.

I would also sign!!

If there isn't one.. we should create one

Worse than smoking and some drug taking.

Given a choice I would much rather my DC went to the house of a smoker or someone smoking weed than a dangerous dog

Yes, same here. And I am totally against drug use of any kind.

I ring ho into a house with one, let alone take my Dc to one.

Dymaxion · 08/11/2024 20:05

Staffies are small dogs, much smaller than the average spaniel. Or they should be, of course there will be any number of backyard breeders who throw another breed into the mix to make it bigger/longer legged/bigger headed etc and still call it a staffie, when it isn't really.
I used to have a big dog when my children were little, not a bull breed, but similar in stature to a doberman, if he had turned ( just as any breed is capable of ) I could have pulled him off, if he had been an XL I wouldn't have stood a chance and neither do any of their owners.

Blueberrymuffino · 08/11/2024 19:54

3rd article I have seen in a week relating to XL Bully attacks.. sorry but these animals need culling.

Does anyone know if there are any petitions????

KeebabSpider · 08/11/2024 19:42

They need to be culled. Then we need very strict licencing for all breeders, and all ownership of dogs.

I've always had bull breed dogs, various from SBT, boxers to bostons and now an SBT and Boston x staff. My dogs always react to verbal command and understand the word stop in all circumstances. But my dogs don't have "lock jaw" (whatever that is) are small dogs, and have a good temperament. These XL bully are unstable and the original stock dog in their breeding was pitbull. Cull the bastard things, they are of no use and can't be considered suitable pets either. Perhaps whilst we are at it something should be done about the fact most of these gum tree "staffie dogs" are not SBT but have infact a lot of pitbull in them. Going back 30 years or so to when Chavs were interbreeding staffs with pitbulls. I see these dogs everywhere and I'd love to see behind the statistics because I'd bet all I have most of these Staff attacks are actually long legged athletic dogs that conform to the pitbull type standard.

Being so foully and personally rude about the victim of a dog attack and their family is not going to help you in any way shape or form make your point.

You may have found my ramblings about the social stereotypes conjured up from that whole sorry ordeal rude, but I bet I'm not wrong.
